LET GO AND LET GOD
Many twelve-step
programs use the phrase “Let
go and let God.” In all their
simplicity, these five words are
the heart of today’s readings.
For people who struggle with
addictive behavior, these words plainly remind us that we
can’t manage, control, or manipulate certain areas of our
lives. How many times can we look back in our lives and
find evidence of some plan at work other than our own?
These are the moments when, for whatever reasons, we let
someone greater than ourselves work the plan. We
probably didn’t even recognize at the time that we were
letting go of anything, but in retrospect, we see God’s
hand and loving presence. It is our awareness of these
moments that gives us the courage and initiative to let go
again later on. It is this courage and initiative that are
highlighted in today’s readings. We come to call it “faith.”
vidas. ¿Cuántas veces podemos mirar hacia atrás a nuestra
vida y encontrar evidencia de algún plan elaborándose,
diferente al nuestro? Estos son los momentos cuando, por
cualquier razón, permitimos a alguien superior a nosotros
Copyright © J. S.

Question of the Week
Question for Children: Jesus teaches us that our faith is
is powerful and with it, we can do great things. We can
forgive, love, and share with others. Which of these do
you do most often?
Question for Youth: The Gospel tells us even a little bit
of faith is enough to make amazing things happen. How
are you keeping your faith alive and growing? What good
things happen in your life because of your faith?
Question for Adults: Being “in Christ” means living as
Christ teaches. What signs do you see in your life of
generosity, forgiveness, hospitality, or any other of Jesus’
teachings?
Next Saturday, Oct. 8, there will be a
Respect
specially scheduled Patriotic Rosary
at 9 am in the chapel in place of our usual Thursday
afternoon time. We are entering a very important time here
in America. As stated by one of our founding fathers,
Jedediah Morse, in 1799, "To the kindly influence of
Christianity we owe that degree of civil freedom, and
political and social happiness which mankind now
enjoys." So as Catholic Christians, let us come together
and pray that through our combined prayers America will
continue to be blessed.

Stephen Ministry … Some of you may not be very acquainted with the Stephen Ministry yet,
and may wonder why we often refer to a scripture passage, our Catholic Catechism, or some other
spiritual book, poem, or song. Let me quote a passage from our 1st training manual to help you
understand this better. “A Presentation for Training Ministers, Lesson 1, p. 8.” The quote is directed at
our trainees. “The first and most important fact you need to know about this training and your
ministry is that Stephen Ministry is a distinctively Christian ministry. From the outset, it is important
to realize that the power from this ministry comes from Jesus. An important part of your training will
be to learn to do everything you can to stay in touch with His Healing Power.” Throughout the training much
emphasis is placed on God and our faith. Each training session includes pertinent spiritual passages, prayers, and a
diagram called “The Caregiver’s Compass” which stresses the five most important characteristics of a Stephen
Minister and aids in developing these traits in our trainees. The five most important characteristics are: Compassion,
Full of Faith, Skilled, Trust Worthy, and Christ Centered. The emphasis on Jesus continues beyond the training and
continues through our service in the ministry. All of us in the ministry are very aware that it is Jesus who is the
leader, we are only the channels through which He works to bring His healing to our care receivers.
