So, when Christ asks us to carry a cross, let us respond with complete abandonment and trust in the way of the cross which that holy sign signifies. YOUTH LEADER We would like to explore an enhancement for our Christian Education programs to broaden their scope and expedite the quality. We are looking for a part time person to work with our director specifically for young people from 6th grade on. It entails an evening (likely Monday night) and a willingness to accompany the kids to CYO convention and other weekend activities. If you want to talk about it we are anxious to meet with you to talk about your background, and find out what kind of compensation you would need. We would like to share a quote with you from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. “To show great love for God and our neighbor we need not do great things. It is how much we put in the doing, that makes our offering something beautiful for God.” Keeping that in mind, we need some help. We need Catechists for the 4th & 5th grade classes and in youth ministry on Mondays. We need people who love our faith and want to pass that on to the future of our church. Please consider giving the gift of your knowledge, time and faith to our youth. Please contact Mary Chapman for more information. Copy of child’s baptism certificate. 3. Suggested donation - $30 per student, $80 per family (3 or more students) EXCERPTS FROM USCCB:WEEK 1 Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship - Part I - The U.S. Bishops’ Reflection on Catholic Teaching and Political Life Introduction Our redemption has a social dimension because "God, in Christ, redeems not only the individual person, but also . . . social relations." To believe that the Holy Spirit is at work in everyone means realizing that he seeks to penetrate every human situation and all social bonds. . . . Accepting the first proclamation, which invites us to receive God's love and to love him in return with the very love which is his gift, brings forth in our lives and actions a primary and fundamental response: to desire, seek and protect the good of others. (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, no. 178) CONFIRMATION With the recommendation from Archbishop Sartain, we will now be celebrating the sacred sacrament of Confirmation every year instead of every other year. If you are going to be a junior or senior this year and are interested in receiving this sacrament, please contact Mary Chapman ASAP. Now if I can only get them to keep it up. I was amused when folks said I didn't look 80, but when my family said I didn't act like 80 I took it to mean it is high time to act my age. On my day off I had pulled a muscle on my walk up Green Mountain in Kitsap County so I spent the weekend limping along. And it still is sore! The downside of 80... The snapshots you sent are memory hooks, and they crowded the bulletin board. I’ll be putting them in an album as a tremendous remembrance of the weekend. Didn’t you like the way Deana had wrapped her photos on the trees around my place? Our Mass by the lake gave me pause to give thanks to Our Blessed Lord for the graces and opportunities and people that He has brought into my life. I can only repeat over and over again, MERCI, MERCI, MERCI! Here are lyrics of the special song written IN ENGLISH for me by Domingo. It really touched me: Many years have passed, Many years of solitude Many sleepless nights.. and praying without ceasing, worried for your people, For those who do not leave sin. Many Masses were celebrated at this altar, Many children baptized, Many marriages blessed, Many people reconciled with Jesus through confession. Nobody watches to see if you're eating; Nobody knows your pain. Only Christ brings comfort and fills you with His Love. You are my priest! (and here he put his hand on my shoulder) With your holiness you shepherd this people and bring them to God. It'll take many more years. to bring all to Communion Here at the Lord's Table. (I believe the melody was to Las Mananitas.) There were special things about the weekend ..... having the Coro de Santa Maria play and sing for our outdoor Mass. ...... being doused with confetti. ...... sitting down with kids I worked with when they were 14 & now they brought their own families with them. ..... being a “pie guy”, still having to eat 3 unexpected birthday cakes. ..... 5 inches of greeting cards to go through. ..... being entertained by the daredevil antics of the kids in the water! ..... sharing delicious pea soup to celebrate the survival of the French in Canada in 1629 (I bet that was the first time you had pea soup at a picnic!) It all made me feel very contented but gratified. But I want you to understand that I have at least one more year to finish my term at St. Edwards. This was no swan song. So many people to thank! Our staff (especially Mary and Jeanne) who did behind the scene tasks like setting up, slicing onions and tomatoes, food runs, etc. Rick Chapman for cooking and the use of his grill. Linda Martinez for making the pea soup. My nephews and nieces: Vica for getting the yard ready, David for cleanup & garbage, Darin for sergeant at arms, Deana for masterminding the whole affair, Skip for last minute repairs, Cindi and Kristi for sending out postcards and hostessing, Dennis and Kavin for parking. And to each and every one of you with each prayer sent heaven-ward for you there is a MERCI BEAUCOUP!
