Concha Velasco vuelve a los teatros de
Madrid. Lo hace en el Teatro Bellas Artes
para dar vida a Olivia. Una mujer paradigma
de la superación, en la fase final de un
camino que sirve para replantearse su
pasado y elegir nuevas disyuntivas. Un texto
lleno de emoción, Olivia y Eugenio es uno
de los estrenos de la temporada. Por delante

name, and a legend all her own. It is not
a destination or an event, although she
and her career could cover either of these
other options, and then some. Concha
Velasco returns to the theater in Madrid,
at the Teatro Bellas Artes, to play Olivia,
a woman who is a paragon of facing
adversity, in the final stage of a journey
which has prompted her to reconsider her
past and choose new paths. A play rife with
emotions, Olivia and Eugenio is one of the
season's works never performed before.

Llega a España de la mano del Museo Thyssen la primera exposición dedicada a la expansión del impresionismo en Estados Unidos. Una muestra que rastrea a
través de casi ochenta pinturas el modo en que los artistas norteamericanos descubrieron esta tendencia en las décadas de 1880 y 90 y su posterior desarrollo
en torno al 1900. Las obras de Cassatt, Sargent o Whistler reunidas revelan su papel en el desarrollo en Europa, mientras que las de Theodore Robinson o Childe Hassam muestran una asimilación más gradual de la nueva pincelada, los colores brillantes y los temas modernos del impresionismo francés. The Thyssen
Museum brings to Spain the first exhibition dedicated to the spread of Impressionism in the United States. An exhibit that explores, through almost 80 paintings,
the way in which American artists discovered this school in the 1880s and 90s, and its subsequent development around the turn of the century. Works by Cassatt,
Sargent and Whistler played a role in its development in Europe, while the Americans Theodore Robinson and Childe Hassam displayed a more gradual assimilation of the new style, the bright colors and modern themes of French Impressionism.

El Festival Internacional Madrid en Danza cumple su vigésimo novena edición en plena forma. Una cita que brinda cada año al público la oportunidad de disfrutar de
las mejores obras y figuras de esta disciplina. En esta ocasión destacan producciones emblemáticas de la historia de la danza que han sido revisadas y actualizadas
ad hoc. Un total de veintitrés espectáculos, nueve de ellos estrenos mundiales, uno europeo y cuatro nacionales con los que se espera superar a los catorce mil
asistentes del pasado 2013.
The Festival Internacional Madrid en Danza marks its 29th edition, still going strong. An event that offers audiences a chance to enjoy the finest works and figures in
this discipline. This time around there will be emblematic productions from dance history, revamped and updated in an ad hoc manner. A total of twenty-three shows,
nine of them never seen before, one European and four Spanish, with hopes to draw over 14,000 people in 2013.

Réplika Teatro y Amara Producciones llevan a escena el impactante texto del autor
belga Jean-Pierre Dopagne, representado con éxito en Francia y señalado por la
crítica como una ácida visión del sistema educativo, que conduce a una necesaria reflexión sobre la lucha cotidiana a la que se enfrentan los profesores. Por este
monólogo desfilan diferentes personajes del mundo de la enseñanza, en los que se
desdobla Gabriel Garbisu con buenas dosis de humor. Profesores, alumnos, directores de centros escolares y Ministros de Educación vuelcan sus voces en un texto que
impacta y propicia el debate. Réplika Theater and Amara Producciones stage the
stunning work by the Belgian author Jean-Pierre Dopagne, successfully performed
in France and praised by critics as a stinging portrayal of the educational system,
prompting a necessary reflection on the daily struggle which teachers face. Different
figures from the teaching world are evoked in this monologue starring Gabriel Garbisu, with good doses of humor included. Teachers, students, school principals and
education ministers lend their voices to the work, which hits hard and sparks debate.

El televisivo actor vuelve a los escenarios con El Ministro, una comedia trepidante que protagoniza en el Teatro Cofidis junto a Marta
Torné, Javier Antón y Guillermo Ortega. Un ministro encaprichado de
la profe de francés de sus hijos y, de pronto, dos ladrones de bancos de medio pelo. Todos juntos sin poder salir de donde están...
Así arranca una obra muy loca escrita por el guionista de televisión
Antonio Prieto.
Tras el prestreno en Aranjuez y el estreno oficial en Madrid, la
pregunta es clara: ¿estás contento con el resultado?
La primera impresión está siendo muy buena. Hay dos tipos de imputs: uno el que tenemos desde el propio escenario, que va muy bien,
porque la obra se desarrolla con un ritmo muy vertiginoso y la gente
entra prácticamente a la totalidad de los gags que tenemos previstos,
y esto en una comedia es vital. Y luego el segundo imput, que es
el del público cuando sale, es también bueno porque la gente sale
encantada del teatro, les parece una obra curiosa y sorprendente.
¿Cómo te llega esta obra, en la que además entras como productor?
Sí, bueno, la producción es básicamente de Endemol. La obra es
de Antonio Prieto, que es un guionista de Endemol de toda la vida,
y recibió el Premio Agustín González por este texto en 2013 y como
Endemol tenía ganas de hacer teatro pero nunca lo ha hecho, se
acercó a nuestra productora a ver si queríamos coproducir con ellos.
Nos pareció una buena comedia y nos animamos a hacerlo.
¿Qué tiene que tener una obra para que te metas como productor?
Nosotros en Arequipa, nuestra productora, siempre buscamos elementos muy claros: que sean obras de autores españoles y que sean
estrenos. Para nosotros es importante apoyar el teatro español y
como somos una productora pequeña nos lo podemos permitir porque no tenemos tanta urgencia de resultados comerciales. Y luego
que sean obras de calidad, claro, me da igual el género, que se puedan construir como buenos espectáculos. Nos podemos equivocar,
desde luego. Y finalmente, que no exijan un gran presupuesto.

The television actor returns to the stage with The Minister, a whirlwind-paced comedy in which he stars at the Cofidis Theater, along
with Marta Torné, Javier Antón and Guillermo Ortega. A minister is
smitten with his children's French teacher, when suddenly two smalltime bank robbers enter into the mix. All of them together, without
being to leave… Thus begins a zany work written by TV scriptwriter
Antonio Prieto.
After the sneak peek in Aranjuez and the official opening in Madrid, the question is obvious: Are you happy with the results?
The first impressions are very good. There are two types of feedback:
first, what we get from the stage itself, that it's going very well, because
the work unfolds at a breakneck pace and people respond to almost all
of the gags, and that in a comedy is vital. And then there is the second
kind, when people leave, which is also good because people leave the
theater delighted, as they find it a peculiar and surprising work.
How did you get involved in this work, on which you are also the
producer?
Well, actually, the production is basically by Endemol. The work is by
Antonio Prieto, who's been an Endemol scriptwriter for years, and he
received the Agustín González Prize for this work in 2013. As Endemol
was eager to do theater, which he had never done before, he approached our production company to see if we wanted to co-produce it with
them. It seemed like a good comedy to us, and we agreed to do it.
What does a work need to have for you to get involved as a
producer?
At Arequipa, our production company, we always look for very clear
elements: works by Spanish authors, never staged before. For us it
is important to support Spanish theater. As we are a small production company we can afford to do so, as the commercial results are
not so pressing. And then they've got to be quality works, of course, regardless of the genre, that lend themselves to good shows.
We can always make mistakes, of course. And, lastly, they can't
require big budgets.

Regresa El Crédito al Teatro Maravillas. Un montaje
que ya han podido ver más de ciento cincuenta mil
espectadores y que ha sido galardonado con el VIII
Premio Valle-Inclán de Teatro otorgado a Carlos Hipólito y el Premio Ceres 2014 al Mejor Autor Teatral del
Festival de Mérida.
Una comedia que habla de todos aquellos que trabajan
en un banco y tienen que negar un crédito. Antes, los
clientes volvían a su casa, cabizbajos. Hoy ya no se
puede confiar en que te dejarán en paz.
Protagonizada por Carlos Hipólito y Luis Merlo y dirigida
por Gerardo Vera, esta obra aborda la figura del director de una sucursal bancaria y plantea, de modo cómico,
hasta dónde pueden llegar todos aquellos a los que les ha
de rechazar los préstamos. Aunque antes el conformismo
estaba a la orden del día, la situación ha cambiado mucho
y quizás una negativa podría desembocar en catástrofe. Y
es que cuando en una profesión está presente el contacto
con el público siempre puede haber sorpresas y los problemas pueden aparecer en cualquier momento.
The Loan returns to the Teatro Maravillas. A show
which has already sold over 150,000 tickets, and
been recognized with both the 8th Valle-Inclán Theater Prize, bestowed by Carlos Hipolito, and the 2014
Ceres Prize for Best Playwright at the Festival de
Mérida.
A comedy which speaks about all those who work in
a bank and have to deny loans. Customers used to
return home, heads drooping, but today you can´t assume they'll leave you alone.
Starring Carlos Hipolito and Luis Merlo, and directed
by Gerardo Vera, this work portrays the manager of a
bank branch and presents, in a comedic way, how far
all those who he has had to deny loans are willing to
go. Whereas resignation used to be the order of the
day, the situation has changed dramatically, and a refusal could lead to catastrophe.

any time.

Olivia y Eugenio es muchas cosas, pero de primeras es el
texto que nos trae de nuevo a Concha Velasco encima de
los escenarios. Tras su estreno el pasado 26 de septiembre en Zaragoza, el texto de Herbert Morote llega ahora
al Teatro Bellas Artes. Desde el 6 de noviembre hasta el
25 de enero la actriz vallisoletana se reencuentra con el
público de Madrid. El argumento, un texto de los que no
dejan indiferente a nadie.
Compartiendo el protagonismo de la obra, están los
actores que da vida a Eugenio, Hugo Aritmendiz y Rodrigo Raimondi, un joven con Síndrome de Down. Para
completar el equipo artístico de este montaje teatral, a
los actores, autor y director hay que sumar el diseño de
vestuario, de Lorenzo Caprile; el diseño de iluminación
y escenografía de Francisco Leal; y la música original
de Mariano Díaz.
No es la primera vez que la actriz tiene el texto delante.
Hace algún año, y antes de enfrentarse al reto de “Hecuba”, Olivia ya había hecho mella en el corazón de la

Olivia and Eugenio is many things, but first and
foremost it is the work that puts Concha Velasco
back on stage. After its premiere on September 26
in Zaragoza, the Herbert Morote work now comes
to the Teatro Bellas Artes. From 6 November to 25
January the Valladolid-born actress will be reunited
with Madrid audiences, and the plot will leave no
one indifferent.
Sharing the stage in the work are the actors playing
Eugenio, Hugo Aritmendiz, and Rodrigo Raimondi,
a young man with Down's syndrome. To round out
the artistic team of this theatrical production, its actors, author and director, mention must be made of
its wardrobe design, by Lorenzo Caprile; the lighting
and sets, by Francisco Leal; and the original music,
by Mariano Díaz.
This is not the first time that the actress had been exposed to the work. A year ago, before undertaking the
challenge of "Hecuba," Olivia had already touched the

artista. Ahora, tras superar una prueba más de la vida en
forma de enfermedad Concha Velasco acepta el reto.
El escritor peruano dibuja una situación extrema donde
se cuestionan los valores en tiempos de crisis. Olivia,
marcada por su enfermedad, hace repaso a toda su vida
anterior. Ese viaje mental le sirve para realizar el ajuste
de cuentas con todos los que le han rodeado: su marido, madre, amistades, médicos, y con todos aquellos que
presumen de ser normales, como políticos, profesionales
y deportistas con éxito. Sobre ellos Olivia se plantea si
son más normales que su hijo Eugenio, un joven con síndrome de Down.
Aunque la sombra del suicidio vive muy cómoda en la
atmosfera de la obra, el diálogo no cae en sentimentalismos. Olivia está llena de coraje, y no hay nadie mejor
que Concha Velasco para ello. A esa terapia de desdramatización contribuye de forma capital Eugenio. El protagonista masculino de la obra, un niño, se convierte en
la nueva alternativa, la puerta a la sorpresa, la incógnita
que permite a Olivia exponer un abanico de preguntas de
respuestas sinceras.
Para los mortales que disfrutamos del teatro, tener a José
Carlos Plaza dirigiendo a Concha es un placer. Sólo tenemos palabras de agradecimiento para ellos, y para el
equipo de Pentación Espectáculos que tiene mucho que
ver en todo ello.

this time in the form of a disease, Concha Velasco accepts the challenge.
The Peruvian writer portrays an extreme situation in
which values during a time of crisis are questioned. Olivia, shaken by disease, looks back upon her life. Her
mental journey spurs her to settle her accounts with all
those that have surrounded her: her husband, mother,
friends, doctors, and with all those who presume to be
normal, like politicians, professionals and successful
athletes. Olivia wonders whether they are any more
normal than her son Eugene, a young person with
Down Syndrome.
Although the shadow of suicide permeates the work's
atmosphere, the dialogue does not fall into melodrama. Olivia is indignant, and there is nobody better than
Concha Velasco to convey this. Eugenio plays a key
role in this therapy of dedramatization. The play's male
protagonist, a child, becomes the new alternative, the
door to surprise, the mystery which allows Olivia to
pose a range of questions with sincere answers.
For us mortals who enjoy theater having José Carlos Plaza directing Concha is a delight. We only
have words of gratitude for them, and the team at
Pentacion Espectáculos, which has a lot to do with
everything.

CentroCentro es el lugar elegido para que el público

Abelló. La muestra, recogida bajo la serie “Mecenazgo
al servicio del arte”, está compuesta por cerca de ciento
sesenta obras con la firma de algunos de los principales
artistas de la historia.
El Greco, Berruguete, Goya, Zurbarán, Picasso o Miró,
entre otros, son algunos de los nombres protagonistas
en una colección marcada por la pasión por el arte de sus
propietarios quienes, a lo largo de sus últimas décadas,
han llevado a cabo una importante labor de recuperación
de obras para el patrimonio español. Entre ellas, obras
singulares de autores españoles como el Salvator Mundi
entre san Pedro y san Juan, de Fernando Yáñez de la
Almedina; El olfato, de Ribera; La familia de la Virgen, de
Zurbarán; o El joven gallero, de Murillo.
Considerada una de las colecciones privadas más
importantes del mundo, propone un recorrido por

escultura, pintura y dibujo así como obras de los

The CentroCentro is the venue chosen for the public
to see, for the first time, in a complete way and in the
same facility, the Abellós' extraordinary Art collection.
The exhibition, entitled "Patronage at the Service of
Art," is composed of some 160 works of Art by some
of history's premier artists.
El Greco, Berruguete, Goya, Zurbarán, Picasso and
Miró, among others, are some of the stars in a collection marked by its proprietors' passion for Art; over
the last decades they have been responsible for a
major effort to recover works that form part of Spain's
cultural heritage. Among them are singular works by
Spanish artists like The Savior of the World between
St. Peter and St. John, by Fernando Yáñez de la
Almedina; Smell, by Ribera; The Virgin’s Family, by
Zurbarán; and The Young Fighting Cock Trainer, by
Murillo.
Considered one of the most important private collections in the world, it features a look at five centuries of Art (from the 15th to the 20th), with pieces of
sculpture, painting and sketches, as well as works by
the great figures of 20th-century Modern Art, seldom

Cines de barrio es la tercera obra de David Miguel Sánchez Fernández editada por Ediciones La Librería. Tras
Un paseo por la Ciudad Lineal y Cines de Madrid vuelve
a la carga con este libro que podría ser una continuación
del anterior o el complemento perfecto para todo cinéfilo
que se precie. Porque hubo un tiempo en que ir al cine
era casi una necesidad y, en muchas ocasiones, llegaba
a nuestras vidas meses después de los estrenos en los
míticos cines de la Gran Vía.
Cines de barrio ha reunido la poca información existente
sobre estas salas del extrarradio. Muchas de ellas eran
simples naves acondicionadas para ver películas incluso, algunas, no disponían de licencia municipal. Esta es
la razón (la falta de información oficial) por la que no se
contemplan todos los cines existentes. Se han recogido
un total de 32 distribuidos desde el propio centro histórico hasta Chamberí, Salamanca, Argüelles, Delicias,
Carabanchel, Pueblo Nuevo, Fuencarral y San Blas.
Estos cines que intentaban atraer la atención de sus
vecinos solían estar en plazas o calles principales de
los barrios. Otras veces irrumpían en pequeñas callecitas y tenían múltiples salidas de emergencia, única manera de conseguir una licencia municipal para su apertura. Aquellos cines dejaron paso a grandes gimnasios,
supermercados... o fueron derribados cerrando con
ellos una etapa en la que ir al cine era todo un ritual.
Cines de barrio (Neighborhood Cinemas) is the third
work by David Miguel Sánchez Fernández published by
Ediciones La Librería. After a stroll through Ciudad Lineal
and Madrid's cinemas he is back with this book that could
be considered a follow-up to his previous work, or a perfect addition to the library of anyone who prides himself
on being a movie buff. Because there was a time when
going to the movies was almost a necessity and, on
many occasions, releases reached people months after
opening at the legendary theaters on the city’s Gran Via.
Cines de barrio reveals the scant information existing on
these far-from-downtown theaters. Many of them were
simple warehouses set up to show films, and some lacked city licenses. This is why (the lack of official information) many cinemas have slipped through the cracks.
A total of 32 are featured, from the historic center out
to Chamberí, Salamanca, Argüelles, Delicias, Carabanchel, Pueblo Nuevo, Fuencarral and San Blas.
These cinemas that sought to attract the attention of local residents used to be located in plazas or on the districts' main streets. Other times they were established in
small streets and had multiple emergency exits - the only
way to obtain licenses from the city so they could open.
They gave way to large gymnasiums, supermarkets… or
were demolished, bringing to an end an era when going
to the movies was a veritable ritual.

Joaquín Sabina vuelve a los escenarios para celebrar
el decimoquinto aniversario de uno de sus trabajos más

After five years without performing solo, Joaquin
Sabina returns to stages to celebrate the 15th
anniversary of one of his most acclaimed releases: his
unforgettable 19 Days and 500 Nights album, which
came out in 1999.
The initiative came about as a gift to his Latin American
fans, with the "500 Nights for a Crisis" tour. Due to its
great success on the other side of the Atlantic (with
sold out shows in Peru, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay)
the tour has now come to Spain. A reencounter with
one of the most memorable songwriters of the last
few decades, an outstanding and admired artist who,
like fine wine, only improves with the passage of the
years.

La vigésimo novena cita del Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro regresa a Cádiz cargada de excelentes y heterogéneas
propuestas. Una programación configurada con grupos de
once países: Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Estados Unidos, El Salvador, México, República Dominicana,
Uruguay y España.
Con dramaturgia propia veremos María Teresa y Danilo de
Catherine Bosnias; Al pie del Támesis de Mario Vargas Llosa
(EE.UU); Los más solos de Egly Larreinaga y Luís Felpeto (El
Salvador); Cuarteto del Alba de Carlos Gil Zamora, y Nidos
de Ana Gallego y Ángel Sánchez (España).
Espectáculos en versiones de textos universales son Miss

In November Málaga goes all out for jazz. From the
3rd to the 9th the Cervantes and Echegaray theaters
will host the 28th edition of the international festival of
the improvisational genre, an event on the calendar
at which to enjoy 11 concerts, in addition to a good
lineup of related activities.
The event officially gets underway with Befunkbop,
from Granada, with sounds inspired by America's
marching bands. On the 4th the Cervantes Theater hosts the first-ever concert featuring One, the
debut album by Ernesto Aurignac Orchestra, a promising Málaga saxophonist. Wednesday 5 marks a
highlight: Lou Donaldson, the veteran American saxophonist, still going strong at age 88. The next day
it is time for Philadelphia guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel,
who comes to the Cervantes to present his latest
album Stars of Jupiter.
Jane Monheit, with her velvety voice, sings at this
show featuring a repertoire of songs made famous by
the old stars from MGM, Broadway and television. On
Saturday it is time for the second debut performance,
with the Rose Ruiz Jazz Quintet and its tribute to Edith
Piaf. Finally, Chano Domínguez and young Josele,
produced by Fernando Trueba, will be, with all their
magic, in charge of wrapping up the edition.

En noviembre Málaga se vuelca con el jazz. Del día 3 al
9 los teatros Cervantes y Echegaray acogen la vigésimo
octava edición del Festival Internacional del género de
la improvisación. Una cita puntual en el calendario en
la que disfrutar de once conciertos y un buen surtido de
actividades paralelas.
Abre oficialmente el cartel el pasacalles de los granadinos
Befunkbop, composición inspirada en las marchin’ band
norteamericanas. El día 4 el Teatro Cervantes acoge
el estreno absoluto de One, el álbum debut de Ernesto
Aurignac Orchestra, un prometedor saxofonista malagueño.
El miércoles 5 es el turno del plato fuerte del certamen de
mano de Lou Donaldson, veterano saxofonista americano
en plena actividad a punto de cumplir ochenta y ocho
años. Al día siguiente será el guitarrista de Filadelfia Kurt
Rosenwinkel quien aterrice en el escenario del Cervantes
para presentar su ultimo álbum Stars of Jupiter.
Jane Monheit con su aterciopelada voz se interna en este
espectáculo por el repertorio de las grandes estrellas
de la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Broadway y la televisión.
El sábado llega el segundo estreno absoluto del festival

gran acción que Turismo de Dubái ha planteado en España.
Este genial Road Show arrancó el pasado 6 de octubre en la
capital. Durante 4 días Madrid pudo conocer de primera mano
las virtudes del emirato y estrechar lazos con el Ayuntamiento
de Madrid en busca de alianzas entre dos de las ciudad con
mayor magnetismo turístico.
El convoy continúa ahora el tour rumbo a otras ciudades: Zaragoza, Lleida, Barcelona, Logroño, Vitoria, Pamplona, San
Sebastián, Bilbao, Burgos y Valladolid.
“DUBAI, YOUR NEXT DESTINATION" ROAD SHOW
All this and much more is on exhibit at the last major action which Tourism of Dubai brought to Spain. This stellar
Road Show began on October 6 in the capital. For 4 days
Madrid was able to learn first hand about the marvels of
the Emirate, which strengthened its ties with the City of
Madrid in search of alliances between two of the cities
with the greatest tourism appeal.
The convoy now continues its tour, bound for other cities:
Zaragoza, Lleida, Barcelona, Logroño, Vitoria, Pamplona, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Burgos and Valladolid.

Turístico Nacional donde el recuerdo de
sus raíces marca a la ciudad.
En septiembre, la ciudad revive la lucha entre las
potencias carthaginesa y romana en una fiesta
que se celebra sobre algunos lugares en los que
se desarrolló la Segunda Guerra Púnica, hace
más de dos mil años. A la fundación de la ciudad
con el nombre de Qart-Hadast por el general carthaginés Asdrúbal, le sigue la decisión de Roma
de declarar la guerra a Carthago luego del sitio y
la destrucción de Sagunto por las tropas carthaginesas, razón por la cual Aníbal Barca formaría
un poderoso ejército para atravesar los Alpes y
luchar contra Roma, acompañado en los combates por sus temidos elefantes.
La lucha de Aníbal, que duró diecinueve años,

The end of the summer means it's time for a celebration which has been declared of National
Touristic Interest in Cartagena, whose awareness of its history is one of the city's hallmarks.
In September the city relives the fight between
Carthaginians and Romans in a celebration
that takes place at some of the same sites
where the Second Punic War was waged, over
2000 years ago. The foundation of the city
with the name of Qart-Hadast, by the Carthaginian General Hasdrubal, was followed by
Rome's decision to declare war on Carthage
in response to the destruction of Sagunto by
Carthaginian troops. The conflict saw General
Hannibal amass a powerful army to cross the
Alps and to fight against Rome, accompanied
in the fighting by his feared elephants.
Hannibal's struggle, which lasted 19 years,
wreaked havoc on the Italian Peninsula.
Meanwhile Qart-Hadasht remained under the
Carthaginians, who ruled with an iron fist. Later,
Scipio Africanus undertook to do away with
Carthaginian power in Hispania, to which end
he attacked Qart-Hadast. The Roman general
conquered the city in a battle that lasted less
than 48 hours.
