Calculemos. Si el batir de alas de una mariposa en Brasil puede provocar un vendaval en París, ¿cómo no se va a
transformar Leioa en la capital de las artes de calle con el
batir de alas de un hado madrino más bien hermoso? Es el
nuevo fichaje del grupo. Y es que parece magia que año tras
año Umore Azoka, la Feria de Artistas Callejeros de Leioa,
convierta las calles y plazas de nuestro municipio en un gigantesco escenario durante cuatro días.
Let’s work it out. If the beating wings of a butterfly in Brazil
can cause a gale in Paris, how could Leioa not become the
capital of street arts with the beating wings of a rather beautiful fairy godmother? She is the group’s new signing. It seems
magic that year after year Umore Azoka, the Leioa Street Arts
Festival, turns the streets and squares of our town into a gigantic stage for four days.
This year 54 companies will take part and there will be 25
premières. Abracadabra. That’s magic!

The truth is that the fairy godmother is new and is really trying and is lovely and studied at the best schools and
all that, but just in case the wand is not working, we have
got everything perfectly and meticulously prepared. Because
Umore Azoka is a festival, a fair and a party. It is a festival
because it offers a selection of some of the best current street
shows. It is a fair because it brings together professionals in
the sector with artists. And it is a party because it turns the
streets of Leioa into pure enjoyment for four days. It has been
going for seventeen years. We need to celebrate it, so, let’s
see, fairy godmother… one last try. A brief spell, a slight wave
of the wand, and…
La verdad es que el hado es nuevo y lo intenta de veras y
es un encanto y estudió en las mejores escuelas y todo eso,
pero por si acaso lo de la varita no funcionaba, lo tenemos
todo perfecta y minuciosamente preparado. Porque Umore
Azoka es festival, es feria y es fiesta. Es festival porque ofrece
una selección de algunos de los mejores espectáculos de
calle actuales. Es feria porque reúne a los profesionales del
sector con los artistas. Y es fiesta porque durante cuatro días
transforma las calles de Leioa en puro disfrute. Y vamos diecisiete años. Hay que celebrarlo, así que, a ver, señor hado
madrino, un último intento. Breve hechizo, leve movimiento
de varita, y...

17 CONSEJOS PARA QUE UMORE AZOKA TE HECHICE
1. Descárgate la APP de Umore Azoka (Google Play y Apple
Store). Lo tendrás todo al alcance de la mano.
9. Levanta la mano siempre que los artistas reclamen colaboración. Y sigue sus indicaciones en todo momento, tanto
si te sacan a la palestra como si no.
2. Presta atención a las pistas que cada compañía da sobre
su espectáculo. En este periódico encontrarás claves en forma de iconos que te ayudarán mucho.
10. Sonríe, llora, aplaude, juega, emociónate... Ellos también
te están viendo a ti.
3. Planifícate, busca qué es lo que más te interesa y haz tu
propio recorrido..., pero déjate llevar. Quizás en el camino
encuentres la razón de tu viaje.
11. Deja y déjate sorprender. Si ya has visto el espectáculo, recuerda que al mismo tiempo pueden estar sucediendo otros
tan buenos en algún otro escenario.
4. Respeta a los artistas y su obra. Es fundamental para que
todos podamos pasar un buen rato, pero más para ellos, ya
que Umore Azoka es un escaparate en el que se muestran
para vender su trabajo a otros profesionales.
12. Fíjate en cómo se transforma el espacio urbano. A partir
de ahora lo verás con otros ojos.
5. El tamaño importa. Si no puedes o no quieres sentarte y
tu altura puede interferir en la visión de los demás, sitúate al
fondo.
6. Cuatro personas sentadas ven mejor que una de pie. No
esperes a que te lo pidan. Crea tu espacio y siéntate en
el suelo para que puedas compartir la experiencia con más
gente.
7. Los últimos no son los primeros. Busca siempre el mejor
ángulo de vista, pero recuerda que somos muchas personas
y que todas tenemos el mismo derecho.
8. No dejes solos a los más pequeños. Comparte con ellos la
experiencia de las artes de calle. Y si en la familia hay algún
miembro de 4 patas, cuida también de él, no lo dejes suelto.
13. Si ves un banco, siéntate; si ves una fuente, bebe; si ves
un wc, úsalo. Nunca sabes cuándo podrás volver a tenerlo a
mano.
14. Deja todas tus preocupaciones en modo silencio (esto
incluye el móvil). Pocas cosas son tan importantes como el
aquí y el ahora. Mira con tus propios ojos, olvídate de hacer
fotos y videos con el móvil.
15. Comparte, recomienda, comenta... Una conversación sobre lo vivido puede enriquecer la experiencia. De viva voz y
también #UmoreAzoka.
16. No dejes que te lo cuenten, ven a Leioa y presta atención
al más mínimo detalle. En cualquier lugar puede estar ese
destello que te sorprenderá.

17 TIPS TO BEING CAPTIVATED BY UMORE AZOKA
1. Download the Umore Azoka app (Google Play and Apple

9. Always raise your hand when artists ask for cooperation.
And follow their instructions at all times, if they bring you to
the front or not
2. Pay attention to the clues that each company gives about
their show. In this journal you will find keys in the form of

3. Plan your trip, look for what you are interested in and

5. Size matters. If you cannot or do not want to sit down and
your height may block the view of others, stand at the back.
13. If you see a bench, sit down; if you see a drinking fountain, drink; if you see a toilet, use it. You never know when

Don’t wait for them to ask you. Create your space and sit
on the floor so that you can share the experience with others.
14. Leave all your worries behind (and your mobile phone in
silent mode). Few things are as important as the here and
the now. Look with your own eyes; forget about taking photos
and videos with your mobile phone.
7. The last are not the first. Always look for the best angle of
view, but remember that there are a lot of people and that we
all have the same right.
15. Share, recommend, comment on... A conversation about
what you have seen might enrich the experience. Both speaking face to face and on #UmoreAzoka.
8. Do not leave children alone. Share the street art experience

Life told in a recipe. Two characters
simmering.
Leek and potato soup, a well-known recipe, but our typically Basque and unique
way of cooking it.
Fine food, locally sourced produce, typical-atypical people, rural Basque sports,
family wisdom, vegetables sliced into batons, the market garden, slow food, Zen
philosophy.
Whatever we eat we produce. Or do we
produce what we eat?
Because there is no single way of doing

Un dúo de danza de esta joven compañía,

con composiciones geométricas.
La pieza plasma la nostalgia, belleza y
sutileza que emana de su mirada a través del movimiento, recreando un mundo
mágico. Los objetos cobran vida, abandonan el papel fotográfico e interactúan
con el espectador.
This company consists of a duo whose
dance is inspired by the dreamlike images
of the US photographer Rodney Smith,
whose work combines the legacy of the
surrealists with geometric compositions.
The piece embodies nostalgia, beauty
and subtlety, which flow from their eyes
through movement, recreating a magical
world. Objects come to life, rise out of the
photographic paper and interact with the
audience.

transformar la calle en una fiesta de ritmo

“Su à feu” es el espectáculo que completa la trilogía iniciada con “Les tambours
de feu” y “Bande déplacée”, con los que
ya participaron en anteriores ediciones de
Umore Azoka y han recorrido el mundo
realizando innumerables representaciones.
The company Deabru Beltzak (Black Devils) is now 20 years old and, once again,
it is showing off its inimitable style by inviting the audience to transform the street
into a lively, magical and engaging festival
of rhythm and light.
“Su à feu” is the show that completes the
trilogy that began with “Les tambours de

Dos cuerpos sin raciocinio, la piel como
un folio en blanco en un terreno ambiguo
en el cual no existen las palabras. Temperaturas, texturas, reconocimiento a través
del contacto físico, tocando, rasgando,
presionando, acariciando… El contacto
como emisor, la piel como receptor y motor del movimiento, como transmisor de
emociones.
Larrua es un proyecto de investigación y
creación coreográfica del bailarín y coreógrafo catalán Jordi Vilaseca y el bailarín gasteiztarra Aritz López, que busca un
lenguaje común entre el breakdance y la
danza contemporánea.
Two bodies without reason, their skin like
a blank sheet of paper in an ambiguous
terrain in which no words exist. Temperatures, textures, recognition through
physical contact, touching, scratching,
pressing, stroking… Contact as the transmitter, skin as the receiver and driver of
movement, as the conveyor of emotions.
Larrua is a project of dance exploration
and creation by Jordi Vilaseca, a Catalan
dancer and choreographer, and Aritz López, a dancer from Vitoria-Gazteiz, which
seeks a common language between
breakdance and contemporary dance.

Malas Compañías es un joven grupo del
denominado nuevo circo con más de
ocho años de trayectoria, en los cuales
ha recorrido la escena vasca, estatal e
internacional. Su secreto: el equilibrio de
disciplinas, la cercanía con el público y el
deseo de transmitir emociones y sensaciones.
“Letter” es su sexto espectáculo recién
estrenado en sala y que ahora llevan a la
calle. Una sabia mezcla de teatro, circo,

Letters are written to say the things we
cannot express out aloud; they convey
to us the echoes of the words we long to
hear…but there can be many a slip between cup and lip, and that path, that journey, often becomes the true protagonist.
Malas Compañías (Bad Company) is a
young troupe of the co-called new circus, with a trajectory stretching back
over eight years, during which time they
have performed before audiences in the
Basque Country, nationwide and abroad.
Their secret: a balance of disciplines, engagement with their audience, and a desire to convey emotions and feelings.
“Letter” is their sixth show, and has recently been premiered indoors, and they
are now taking it out into the street. A clever mixture of theatre, circus, humour and
poetry.

Crusoe aprende a comer por sus medios,
a relacionarse con su entorno y con seres reales e imaginarios. Desde su isla
ve pasar el tiempo y los barcos, sin que
ninguno se detenga. Crusoe, finalmente,
consigue vivir una vida apacible acompañado de Viernes. Una vida que, como
un barco en alta mar, sigue pasando a lo
lejos. ¿Quién no se ha sentido como un
náufrago solitario en su isla?
Markeliñe, Premio Umore Azoka 2015 al
Mejor Espectáculo Callejero de Euskadi
con “Andante”, se inspira en esta ocasión
en el texto de Daniel Dafoe para crear una
historia propia con sabor a mar y a mundo marino, una metáfora sobre la vida.

The six young dancers in the Matxalen
Bilbao Company go in search of each
other, they follow each other, they meet,
they part, and their bodies travel through

y unos cuantos paisajes.
En Manar no hay texto. Las palabras están escondidas dentro de la boca y son
las manos quienes se expresan, quienes
hablan de relaciones, de encuentros y

jugando, manos descubriendo otros modos de decir miedo, cielo o beso.

Manar does not have a script. The words
are hidden in the mouth, leaving it to the
hands to express themselves, to describe
relationships, encounters and misunderstandings. Hands that dance, hands that
play, hands that discover other ways of expressing fear, heaven or a kiss.

En este su último trabajo, en el que mezclan danza, teatro, música y humor, Organik presenta a dos ancianas que se
mueven con limitaciones articulares pero
que al recordar su juventud regresan momentáneamente a ese pasado de manera
eufórica gracias a esos ecos musicales
del irrintzi.
“Irrintzi” is the Basque word for a loud,
long, and high-pitched scream made in
a single breath that the Basques use to
express happiness. A spontaneous and
liberating call that is heard at all the local
fiestas, religious processions and other
moments of joy, and which generates empathy among listeners, bringing them out
in goose bumps.
In this their latest show, in which they
combine dance, theatre, music and humour, Organik introduces two old ladies
who move stiffly, but when they remember their youths they suddenly return to
that past with a feeling of euphoria thanks
to those musical echoes of the irrintzi.

ganadores natos. Pero descubrir de qué
jugó “Pichichi” en su último partido en
San Mámes o cuál fue el primer equipo
que entrenó el “Mister”, nos ayudará a
comprender mejor sus historias y aliviar
así nuestras expectativas insaciables de
éxito.
“Mr. Pichichi” or “the better team never
wins” is a clown show inspired by the
real-life experiences of two football pioneers; the player Rafael Moreno Aranzadi “Pichichi”, and Fred Pentland the
“Mister”, as the people in Bilbao used
to call Athletic Bilbao’s manager, who at
that time was usually British. Their image
has left us with the memory of two born
winners. But to discover in which position
“Pichichi” played in his last match at the
San Mámes stadium or the name of the
first team that the “Mister” trained would
help us to better understand their stories
and relieve our insatiable expectations of
success.

There are lots of people who at some time
in their lives have danced to a song by the
Spanish crooner Raphael, but how many
of those have tried to dance to it as if it
were a popular Basque song? Well, the
dancers of the Tio Teronen Semeak Company have, and the amazing thing is they
manage to pull it off.
“FreshCool” combines the speed of the
Basque aurresku dance and the loutishness of a weird show full of humour. Weird
it may be, but in the end it is still Euskal
Dantza, Basque dancing.

This unbearable situation forces the parents to go out and protest in a most

el comienzo. Algo, o más bien alguien: el
técnico de la compañía. Entró de enchufe
e intenta cumplir su sueño de actuar, así
que necesita retrasar el show ante la inminente llegada de los artistas.
Dimitri regresa a Leioa con la secuela de
su primer espectáculo “The Great Circus
Show”, la historia de cómo un gran idiota encuentra por accidente la esperada
oportunidad para demostrar al mundo el
gran artista que es. Ingenio no le falta.
The tickets are all sold out. A famous European circus company is going to perform today, and the waiting audience is
getting very excited. Everything appears
to be ready to receive the artistes who
are just about to arrive. But something
has delayed the start. Something, or to be
more precise, someone: the company’s
technician. He pulled strings to get the
job and now he wants to fulfil his dream
of actually performing, so he needs to delay the show as the performers are about
to arrive.
Dimitri returns to Leioa with the sequel to
his first show “The Great Circus Show”,
the story of how a complete idiot accidently finds the long-awaited opportunity
to show the world what a great artist he is.

Kate Slata tiene algunas limitaciones físicas pero el mensaje es claro: si quieres,
puedes. ¿Terminará surfeando por encima de las cabezas del público?

is clear: you can if you want to. Will he end
up surfing over the audience’s heads?

Three people. A wall. Defying gravity and
balance by moving dance onto a vertical

with two castaways fishing and exchanging messages, adrift. A time to laugh
about everything, with fragility, with
everyday castaways.
“Náufragos” está ubicado en un espacio
ovalado, con el público, espectador y
protagonista, alrededor. Un espacio íntimo y grande a la vez donde dos clowns
buscarán a otros náufragos en un espectáculo de teatro de calle y clown sin texto.
Un homenaje a todos los viajeros que alguna vez se sintieron náufragos. Porque
la vida está hecha de pequeños naufragios.
“Náufragos” is performed in an ovalshaped space, with the audience as both
spectator and protagonist, surrounding it.
A space that is both intimate and spacious
at the same time, where the clowns will
look for other castaways in a street theatre show involving clowning and mime.
A homage to all those travellers who at
some time felt they were castaways. Because life is full of little shipwrecks.

woman. A circus between two. A double
bass as the link between them.
Little moments of intimacy in a gestural
and musical journey into the deepest and
most honest recesses within each one.
Together they weave an unreal world of
poetry and complicity in a blind attempt
to break away from the myth of loneliness

‘Toc de Fusta’ presenta una nueva colección de ‘Los Amigos de Crusó’, una instalación interactiva que transforma la calle
en un espacio con la curiosidad y el juego
como protagonistas.
Autómatas de gran formato, rompecabezas de creación propia y una amplia colección de juegos mecánicos. Presentada
por primera vez en 2015 en Dinamarca,
esta nueva colección ha crecido y visitado ya festivales de Inglaterra, Bélgica y
Francia, recuperando las calles como espacio de juego.
‘Toc de Fusta’ presents a new collection
of ‘Los Amigos de Crusó’, an interactive
installation that transforms the street into
an area in which curiosity and playfulness
take centre stage.
Large automatons, jigsaw puzzles of
their own making, and a large collection
of mechanical games. Presented for the
first time in 2015 in Denmark, this new
collection has grown and already visited
festivals in the UK, Belgium and France,
winning back the streets as a play area.

Aparece y desaparece una figura enredada y a su vez estirada, muchos dirían que
es bipolar, yo solo lo nombro bicho. Juega
con sus ojos hasta el punto del desequilibrio que le lleva a hacer piruetas.
“Ojos que no ven” es una escena de malabarismo y acrobacia, una performance
interpretada por un solo personaje, Miguel
Ángel Barreto Valencia, ganador junto con
la compañía Pass&Company del Talent
Madrid 2014 en la categoría de circo.

A figure appears and disappears, one that
is complicated and laid back at the same
time, many would say he is bipolar, but

Un espectáculo de circo centrado en la
escalada y en la montaña, donde los artistas son lo sobradamente hábiles como
para reirse de la gravedad de las leyes de

Their universe is a vertical metallic structure full of holes and handholds. It is within
this setting that the circus has to adapt to
survive…introducing the climbing circus!

Saca fotos, sí, pero de una forma diferente. La Magicabine está en la línea del
teatro intimista de miniatura. Igual de
misteriosa que acogedora, la máquina se
parece tanto a un confesionario como a
una instalación de feria.
El espectador es transportado a una extraña atmósfera de música y efectos mágicos. Redescubre sensaciones y deja
volar la imaginación. Pero también se le
plantea un desafío: ¿puede realmente
fiarse uno de lo que ven sus ojos?
Entremés, fotomatón, gabinete de curiosidades… todo eso y mucho más es “La
magicabine”.
The booth takes photos, indeed it does,
but in a different way. The Magicabine
follows the tradition of intimate theatre in
miniature. As mysterious as it is cosy, the
machine is as much like a confession box
as a fairground attraction.
The spectator is transported to a strange
atmosphere of music and magical effects,
to rediscover feelings and let their imagination fly. But they are also faced with
a challenge: can one really believe what
one’s eyes see?
A sketch, photomaton, box of curiosities…“La magicabine” is all this and much
more.

Les Goulus, con una larga trayectoria en

Inspirado en los textos “Auschwitz y
después” de la escritora y miembro de
la resistencia francesa Charlotte Delbo,
Vendaval ha creado un espectáculo-homenaje de danza y teatro.
Después de cosechar un gran éxito en
festivales internacionales, Leioa acoge su
estreno en castellano.
Sitting on a bench, a woman talks to
herself, dances alone... When night falls,
Hellen Miller stops pretending to be who
she isn’t and meets her friends, the ones
that didn’t survive. She keeps their voices
with her. Every day she wonders how she
managed to survive that hellhole. Hellen
holds back her scream.
Based on the memoirs “Auschwitz and
after” by Charlotte Delbo, a writer and
member of the French resistance, Vendaval has created a homage-show of dance
and theatre.
After its great success at international
festivals, Leioa is premiering its Spanish
language version.

Inspirada en el mito de Pygmalion y en los
cuentos de E.T.A. Hoffman, la obra narra
el imposible amor entre una muñeca mecánica llamada Bambolina y su creador
Dodó. Se trata de una pantomima muda
de gran carga poética que fusiona teatro, circo y marionetas, y que gracias a
su carácter universal llega a todo tipo de
público.
When the chimes of midnight ring out, a
mechanical doll comes to life.
Based on the myth of Pygmalion and on
the tales of E.T.A. Hoffman, the show tells
of the impossible love between a mechanical doll called Bambolina and its creator
Dodó. It is a hugely poetic pantomime
without words that combines theatre,
circus and puppets, which thanks to its
universal nature is suitable for audiences
of all ages.

“Let’s Circus!” is a show directed by the

II ENCUENTRO EUSKADI-AQUITANIA
2ND MEETING OF AQUITAINE-EUSKADI
Este segundo encuentro entre programadores/as, profesionales,
asociaciones culturales y compañías de artes escénicas de Aquitania-Euskadi, tiene como objetivos principales:
1. Continuar trabajando en torno al proyecto AQUITAINE.eus,
en el marco del acuerdo de colaboración recientemente firmado por la Eurorregión Aquitania-Euskadi, el Instituto Etxepare
y Euskal Kultur Erakundea de Iparralde, y avanzar en el diseño
de un programa de actividades de artes escénicas en diferentes ferias, festivales y programaciones estables.
2. Analizar las oportunidades de colaboración puntuales y permanentes entre teatros, festivales, asociaciones, compañías y
profesionales de Aquitania y Euskadi.
3. Favorecer intercambios artísticos entre compañías (residencias, talleres…).
This second meeting between programmers, professionals, cultural associations and performing arts companies of AquitaniaEuskadi, has the following main objectives:
1. To continue working on the AQUITAINE.eus project, in the
framework of the collaboration agreement recently signed by
the Aquitaine-Euskadi Euroregion, the Etxepare Institute and
Euskal Kultur Erakundea de Iparralde, and progress with designing a programme of performing arts activities at different fairs,
festivals and fixed programmes.
2. To analyse the opportunities for occasional and permanent
collaboration between theatres, festivals, associations, companies and professionals in Aquitaine and the Basque Country.
3. To promote artistic exchanges between companies (residencies, workshops…).

ARTEKALE es una Asociación que aglutina a todos los agentes
de Euskal Herria implicados en las Artes de Calle, en los ámbitos
de la producción, la exhibición y la distribución.
La sala de exposiciones de Kultur Leioa se transforma en el Punto de Encuentro en el que tendrán lugar tanto presentaciones,
speed meetings, como encuentros informales del sector. Un
espacio polivalente en el que poder descansar, tomar un café,
charlar con amigos, preparar reuniones, participar en coloquios,
conocer la situación de las Artes de Calle...
ARTEKALE is an association that brings together all agents in the
Basque Country involved in street arts, in the fields of production,
exhibition and distribution.
The Kultur Leioa exhibition hall will become the meeting point
which will play host to presentations, speed meetings and informal meetings in the sector. A multi-purpose area in which to rest,
have a coffee,chat with friends, prepare for meetings, take part in
conferences, find out more about street arts…

Además de espectáculos del programa pensados expresamente
para este lugar, exposiciones, decoración, pintura mural, paseos
poéticos, recorridos naturales para familias, actividades infantiles, muestras de talleres y open classes (tango, danzas africanas
y acroyoga, serigrafía), encuentro de hulla hop, open mic, video
mapping... Música a raudales: por la tarde jazz at five y por la
noche jam sessions, tacumah reggae, funky, grupos locales y DJ.
In addition to performances on the programme specifically designed for this place, there are exhibitions, decorations, mural paintings, poetry walks, nature trails for families, activities for children,
demonstrations of workshops and open classes (tango, African
dances and acro-yoga, silkscreen printing), a hula hoop meeting,
open mic, video mapping... There will be music in abundance:
jazz at five in the afternoon/evening and jam sessions in the evening/at night, tacumah reggae, funk, local groups and a DJ.

Rules
UMORE AZOKA, Leioa Street Performers Festival, announces
the “Umore Azoka Awards 2016”, which will be held between the
May 19 and 22 with the aim of promoting the companies participating in the programming and will be settled in accordance with
the following
RULES
1. All companies programmed to take part in the festival and
who have expressly stated so, whatever format and presentation space they use, may participate.
2. Every company will participate with the work or works they
present at the festival.
3. The jury, appointed by Umore Azoka and made up of professionals and experts in the performing arts, will see the programmed performances and choose the winners between
them.
4. The following awards will be presented:

Trophy and certificate
Award for the best street performance from the Basque Country
Trophy and certificate
Special Award for the Best Performance/Emerging
Artist
Creation residency at Hameka
5. The Jury will take the following evaluation criteria into account: artistic quality (direction, interpretation, music, choreography, rhythm…), technical quality (costumes, scenery,
lighting, props, characterisation, sound, production…), originality, creativity, novelty and appeal of the performance.
6. In addition, the jury reserves the right not to award prizes and
prizes cannot be shared. In accordance with its criteria, the
Jury may make as many special mentions as it wants, which
will not receive a monetary award.
7. The jury’s decision will be made public on May 22, during the
closing ceremony of the festival.
8. The awards ceremony will take place at the official Umore
Azoka 2017 reception ceremony.
9. The organisation and jury shall be empowered to resolve any
contingency not provided for in the rules.
10. Participation in these awards implies acceptance of these rules.
