The Peace of Christ Our offering of the Peace of Christ to one another is familiar enough. Hands reach out and are clasped with relative ease. In a place where fellowship and faith are assumed, offering greetings of peace is appropriate. The greetings are easily and respectfully given whenever peaceful people regard one another with unconditional acceptance. Peaceful greetings can grow into relationships of friendship and affection, or they can simply remain signs of good will and mutual respect. In our offering peace we acknowledge that together we are rooted in God’s salvation and peace in our common gift HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA Our Lady of Guadalupe Special Mass for Cancer Patients, Survivors, Caregivers, Friends, and Families You are invited to attend a Healing Mass in honor of St. Peregrine Feast Day, May 4, 2016 at 7PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass Intentions at Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass intentions refer to the particular purpose for which a specific Mass is “offered.”(Catholicculture.org) This tradition is closely linked with the concept of “communion with the saints,” that is, the Catholic teaching that all the faithful (including us here on earth, our brothers and sisters who are already in heaven, and those who are in Purgatory) form one community.1 When we ask a priest to offer a Mass for a deceased loved one, we do so as an expression of our belief in the communion of saints, as part of our acknowledgment that our loved one, although deceased, is still a member of the community of the faithful. Because it is ultimately an expression of communal faith in the Lord and in His promise of eternal life, the tradition of offering Masses for those who have died often brings some measure of comfort to the loved ones they left behind. Masses are offered for many reasons: in thanksgiving to God, for someone who is sick, in remembrance of a loved one’s birthday or anniversary, and perhaps most frequently, in remembrance of a loved one who has passed away. If you would like to schedule a Mass please call Jodi at the parish office or come by during business hours. This Sunday’s “Youth Jubilee” previews July’s World Youth Day in Krakow. Its theme from Matthew 5:7, “Blessed are the merciful,” echoes Pope Francis’ warning that “the practice of mercy is waning in the wider culture.” In countercultural witness, therefore, “the time has come,” says Francis, “for the Church to take up the joyful call to mercy once more. It is time to return to the basics and to bear the weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters.” Jesus affirms the same in today’s Gospel. “As I have loved you, so you also should love one another” (John 13:34). Francis concludes, “The Church’s very credibility is seen in how she shows merciful and compassionate love.” Jesus too asserts, “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). Thus mercy “makes young” the Church, the world, and everyone. “Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with hope” (Misericordiae Vultus, 10). Earth Day, Earth Day was Friday, April 22. We should take this time to recommit ourselves to the caring and preserving all of God’s Creation. May we always use God’s creation, wisely. All Creation bears the imprint of Christ. Respecting God’s Creation is basic to our Faith. "I would like to ask all those who have positions of responsibility in economic, political and social life, and all men and women of goodwill: let us be 'protectors' of creation, protectors of God's plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another and of the environment." - Pope Francis, Inauguration, 3/19/13 FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER PAGE 4 APRIL 17, 2016 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER PAGE 5 Weekly Mass Intentions APRIL 24, 2016 Eucharistic Minister Lectors AltarServers 5:00PM Daniel Rodriguez Laurie Paolozzi Jacob Adaajet Richard Divinski Tom Bruce NikolasPaumier Betty Hacker Caitlyn Garcia Teri Burschinger Jim Burschinger 7:00AM Quinn Merritt Kirk Bretney Geni Walker Ron Alpine Sarah Walker Matt Walker Dan Olmstead Daniel Augusto 8:00AM Antonio Ortiz Marychuy Orendain Lety Rico Luisa Gonzalez Mirna Rayon Daniel Osorio Gaby Vargas Angelica Pastrano Maria Amaya Raquel Mora Candy Zamora 9:45AM MarioPalacio KenKeller ChrisLadaw VictoriaPrice EllenDeAlvaGonzalez BriannaPerez Jon Galvez Monique Akker Joe Warwick Jonathan Riddick Lilly Lee 11:30AM David Lee Brad Gusich Vicki Lee Mike Sisson Eileen Sisson Paul Tenorio Lauren Sablan Thank you from Food Drive APRIL 24, 2016 Hand’N’Hand Thank you to everyone who gave so generously to the Hand’N’Hand Food Drive last weekend.
