12. OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION
-
Climate:
Cuba has a warm tropical climate with seasonally variable rainfall influenced by ocean currents. It also
presents some semi-continental climate characteristics. Its geographical location at a latitude very close to
the Tropic of Cancer means that it receives high levels of solar radiation that translates to warm weather,
with a rainy season in the summer.

and 1, 2, 5 and 20 centavos. Also in circulation is the Cuban convertible peso (CUC), used as a medium of
exchange with foreign currencies according to officially established exchange rates. Cuban convertible pesos
are not valid or exchangeable outside Cuba. Any remaining convertible pesos a visitor has at the time of
departure from the country may be exchanged at the airport for US dollars or any other internationally used
currency. For tourists, the most widely used currency is the CUC, with which they have access to all products

airports, banks, hotels, exchange houses and major shops. Credit cards are accepted: Transcard, Visa,

Restaurants
Since its origins, Cuban cuisine has been the result of the confluence of the same factors that led to the
formation of the nationality in the 19th century: the mixture of Spanish, indigenous and African customs and
the subsequent influence of Asian and Yucatecan immigration.
The national dish is ajiaco criollo, a combination of meat and vegetables cooked together, which varies due
to the diversity of the ingredients used in its preparation. The most typical Cuban dishes aside from ajiaco
are combinations of rice with different ingredients such as roast or fried pork, fried plantains or chatinos (fried
pieces of crushed plantain), pork cracklings and beef hash.
