The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

A Letter from Jay Groft
I wanted to take a minute and share with you my excitement about the Pipe Organ project that the Cathedral
is so blessed to have under way right now.
As I'm sure most, if not all of you have heard by now, we have been given an incredible gift of over a million
dollars toward a pipe organ that is currently being built and will be installed later this year in the choir loft
here at Ss. Simon and Jude. I was fortunate enough to be able to tour the facilities and meet the wonderful
people of the Peragallo Organ Co., the company building our organ. I also had the extraordinary experience
of visiting several churches in New York and New Jersey where pipe organs were built or restored by the
Peragallos. One of the highlights of the trip was our visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral, in New York City. The
Peragallos maintains the organs there and have recently finished a restoration of St. Patrick's pipe organs.
The Cathedral itself was enormous and so beautiful, but the pipe organs were such an integral part of the
overall elegance and majesty that I can't imagine the church being as magnificent without the pipe organs.
When I heard the main organ played in St. Patrick's it moved me to tears.
I don't know how to express just how honored I am at the thought that we, at SS. Simon and Jude are going
to have a pipe organ in our church. This instrument will be one of beauty and grace and will be built so that
it will last so our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be able to enjoy long after we're gone.
Being a part of this is very moving to me and I look forward to the great beauty it will add to our Cathedral
both musically and in appearance.

try to reach our pre-installation goal of $175,000. We’re presently about $100,000 short of that goal.

Quisiera tomar un minuto para compartir con ustedes mi entusiasmo acerca del proyecto de Órgano de Tubos, del cual
la Catedral está bendecida de tener en marcha en este momento.
Estoy seguro que la mayoría de ustedes, o todos ustedes han escuchado que se nos ha otorgado un regalo increíble de
más de un millón de dólares para un órgano de tubos que actualmente está bajo construcción, y que será instalado más
adelante este año en el balcón del coro aquí en la Catedral de San Simón y Judas. Fui muy afortunado de poder ir a
conocer el establecimiento y a la maravillosa gente de Peragallo Organ Co., la compañía que construye nuestro órgano.
También tuve la experiencia extraordinaria de visitar varias iglesias en Nueva York y Nueva Jersey, en dónde se
encontraban órganos de tubos construidos o restaurados por Peragallo. Uno de los aspectos más sobresalientes del
viaje fue nuestra visita a la Catedral de San Patricio en la Ciudad de Nueva York. Peragallo ofrece el mantenimiento de
los órganos de la Catedral de San Patricio, y recientemente terminaron la restauración de los órganos de tubos. La
Catedral en sí era enorme y muy hermosa, pero los órganos de tubos formaban una parte muy integral de la elegancia y
majestuosidad en general, que no puedo imaginar que la iglesia fuese tan magnifica sin los órganos de tubos. Cuando
escuche tocar el órgano principal en San Patricio, me conmovió con lágrimas.
No sé cómo expresar lo honrado que me siento en solo pensar que nosotros, aquí en San Simón y Judas tendremos un
órgano de tubos en nuestra iglesia. Este instrumento será uno de belleza y gracia y será construido de tal manera que
perdurará para que nuestros hijos, nietos y bisnietos puedan disfrutar mucho después de que ya no estemos. El formar
parte de esto es muy emocionante para mí y espero con entusiasmo la gran belleza que añadirá a nuestra Catedral
tanto en lo musical como en apariencia.
Por favor, si aún no lo ha hecho todavía, considere formar parte del proyecto del órgano.

ANUNCIO DE BECA
Los Caballeros de Colón y el Consejo de la Catedral
de San Simón y Judas ofrece de nuevo su beca anual
para un alumno graduado del 8º grado quien planea
continuar su educación en una Escuela Secundaria
Católica en la Diócesis de Phoenix. Se trata de una
beca de $2,000.00 en pagos de $500.00 por año
durante cuatro años.
Esta beca se otorgará mediante la votación del
comité basado en los siguientes criterios:
Calificaciones, actividades extracurriculares,
recomendaciones, necesidad financiera, servicio
comunitario y un ensayo escrito.
Los reglamentos y aplicaciones para la beca estarán
disponibles el 4 de abril del 2016 en la Parroquia de
San Simón y Judas y en la oficina de la escuela. El
cierre de inscripción es el 9 de mayo del 2016. Para
