Sydney, Australia, Vancouver, Canada to the
Diocese of Metuchen, New Jersey all had what
is similar to our CSA-Catholic Stewardship
Appeal. These campaigns assist the local
churches to assist the needy and prepare the
Church for the future. As you make your
pledge this year please assist our Bishop Joseph
Pepe and our Diocese of Las Vegas in helping
the needy that God has placed before us and
support the future of our Church. As we walk

Parish Lenten Service Project
Our Lenten Service Project is sponsored by the St.
Martha’s Guild. We will be collecting item listed
below over the next three weeks beginning Sunday, February 21st for Sunrise Foundation-WIC
Clinic located in Mesquite. Sunrise Foundation is a non-profit
organization that also sponsors the Federal WIC program that is
available to pregnant women and infants to 5 years of age. It is
a nutritional and supplemental program for low income
families. Food cards are issued to qualifying families to
purchase authorized nutritional food items. Your donations will
help supplement that list. Bring your donations to the church on
the weekends when you come for Mass or any time during the
week.

Why can't priests hear confessions through
electronic media such as telephone,
e-mail, or Internet?
Confession on the telephone or by e-mail is not
permitted by the Church for a couple of reasons. First, the sacrament
of confession is a personal encounter with Jesus in which he:
personally addresses every sinner: "My son, your sins are forgiven."
He is the physician tending each one of the sick who need him to cure
them. He raises them up and reintegrates them into fraternal
communion. Personal confession is thus the form most expressive of
reconciliation with God and with the Church. (CCC 1484)
Second, maintaining secrecy is essential. The "Church declares that
every priest who hears confessions is bound under very severe
penalties to keep absolute secrecy regarding the sins that his
penitents have confessed to him" (CCC 1467). E-mail, the Internet,
and telephones are never completely private.
The Pontifical Council on Social Communications on The Church and
Internet says:
Virtual reality is no substitute for the Real Presence of Christ in
the Eucharist, the sacramental reality of the other sacraments, and
shared worship in a flesh-and-blood human community. There are no
sacraments on the Internet; and even the religious experiences
possible there by the grace of God are insufficient apart from
real-world interaction with other persons of faith. (9)

DEVELOP A LIFE OF PRAYER THIS LENT
Mother Theresa said: "We need to find God and God
cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the
friend of silence. See how nature--trees and flowers and
grass--grow in silence. See the stars, the moon and the
sun, how they move in silence. The more we receive in silent prayer,
the more we can give in our active life."
Have no fear of allowing Jesus to enter into your life. Do not fear the
most exciting, most joyful and the most powerful relationship known to
the human person. We are made by God to live forever. We have
been given the gift of an immortal soul. Jesus does not want us to live
a life of sadness. He does not want us to wallow in doubt, frustration,
and uncertainty. He wants us to live. By embracing God's will and by
carrying our cross with patience, joy, and love, we can find deep
happiness even in the midst of profound suffering.
Nevertheless, it is true that prayer is not an easy enterprise. The
spiritual life will always be a battle. There always will be obstacles that
are necessary to overcome if we wish to live a life of prayer.
One of the biggest obstacle is that most people are just too busy. Too
many people have fallen into the terrible trap of what I call the idolatry
of work, thus making their work a complete obsession to the detriment
of their families and personal health. Most Americans live in order to
work rather than work in order to live. Man was not made for work;
work was made for man.. I honestly do not know what it takes for
people to really want to pray. Perhaps spiritual thirst is a gift. However,
we need to remember the words of Sacred Scripture: "The nearer you
go to God, the nearer He will come to you" Father James Farfaglia

advance. Baptisms are on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month,

classes are held on the 4thThursday of the month from 6:00-9pm in
Bunkerville.
MARRIAGES: Please contact the Parish Office six months in
advance to schedule an appointment with Fr. Blaise.
QUINCEAÑERAS: Register at the Parish Office 6 months in
advance. A deposit is required at the time of registration.
Quinceañeras are held on Saturdays at 12Noon. The young woman
and her parents are required to meet with the Priest or Deacon one
month prior to the celebration.
FUNERAL MASS: Contact the Parish Office for a date and time if
not already arranged through the mortuary. You will then be
contacted by our Funeral Mass Coordinator to arrange music and
readings.
MINISTRY TO THE SICK/HOMEBOUND: To arrange
Communion to the sick or homebound or to receive the Sacrament of
the Anointing of the Sick for someone on Hospice, seriously ill, the
elderly or anyone scheduled for surgery call the Parish Office.
SACRAMENT SPONSORSHIP
If you require a letter of permission to sponsor someone for a
Sacrament outside our parish contact the Parish Office.

Proyecto Parroquial de Cuaresma
Nuestro Proyecto de Servicio Parroquial es patrocinado por el
Gremio St.Martha. En las próximas tres semanas, comenzando
el domingo 21 de febrero, recogeremos artículos
para la Clínica WIC de la Fundación Sunrise en
Mesquite, una organización sin fines de lucro que
también patrocina el programa federal WIC, disponible a mujeres embarazadas y a niños de hasta
5 años de edad. Es un programa nutricional y suplementario
para familias de ingresos bajos. Recogeremos alimentos no
perecederos y los artículos mencionados abajo. Por favor traiga sus donaciones a la iglesia cuando usted viene a Misa en los
fines de semana, o durante la semana. Gracias.

¿Por qué no pueden los sacerdotes
escuchar confesiones a través de
medios electrónicos tales como
teléfono, e-mail o Internet?
La iglesia no permite confesiones por teléfono o
correo electrónico por un par de razones. Primero, el
sacramento de confesión es un encuentro personal con
Jesús en el cual El se dirige personalmente a cada pecador: “Mi hijo, se han perdonado tus pecados”. El es
el médico que atiende a cada uno de los enfermos que
necesitan ser sanados por El. El los resucita y los reintegra a la comunión fraternal. Por lo tanto, la confesión
personal es la forma más expresiva de la reconciliación
con Dios y con la iglesia. (CCC 1484)
Segundo, mantener el secreto es esencial. “La Iglesia
declara que todo sacerdote que escucha confesiones
está obligado bajo penas severas a mantener secreto
absoluto concerniente a los pecados que le confiesan
sus penitentes” (CCC 1467). El correo electrónico, el
Internet y los teléfonos nunca pueden ser completamente privados. El Concilio Pontifical sobre Comunicación Social dice en La Iglesia y el Internet: La realidad virtual no es substituto para la presencia real de
Cristo en la Eucaristía, la realidad sacramental de los
otros sacramentos y la oración compartida en una comunidad humana de sangre y hueso. No hay sacramentos en la Internet y aún la experiencia possible en ella
por la gracia de Dios no es suficiente alejada de la interacción en la vida real con otros fieles.

ADQUIERAN UNA VIDA DE ORACION
ESTA CUARESMA
La Madre Teresa dijo: "Necesitamos encontrar a Dios
y Dios no está en el ruido y en la agitación. Dios es
amigo del silencio. Vean como la naturaleza--árboles
y flores y el pasto--crecen en silencio. Vean que las estrellas, la
luna y el sol se mueven en silencio. Mientras más recibimos en
oración silenciosa, más podemos dar en nuestra vida activa."
No tengan temor a permitir que Jesús entre en sus vidas. No
teman la más emocionante, la más radiante, la más poderosa relación conocida por el ser humano. Dios nos hizo para vivir eternamente. Se nos ha dado el don de un alma inmortal. Jesús no
quiere que vivamos una vida de tristeza. El no quiere que nos hundamos en la duda, la frustación y la incertidumbre. El quiere que
vivamos. Al aceptar la voluntd de Dios y llevar nuestra cruz con
paciencia, júbilo y amor, podremos encontrar una felicidad profunda, aún en el medio de un sufrimiento profundo.
Sin embargo, es cierto que la oración no es .algo fácil. La vida
espiritual será siempre una batalla. Siempre habrá obstáculos a
vencer si deseamos vivir una vida de oración.
Necesitamos recorder las palabras de la Sagrada Escritura: :
“Lo más cerca que vayas a Dios, lo más cerca que El vendrá a tí”
