C4: Effective and Reflective Practitioner NB Professional Development Schools What will your journey look like? 2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 C3: Teaching Practice and Learning Environment C2: Differentiation in Instruction C3: Teaching Practice and Learning Environment C1: Content Knowledge C4: Effective and Reflective Practitioner C1: Content Knowledge Component 3 Teaching Practice and Learning Environment • This is a classroom-based portfolio entry that requires video recording(s) of interactions between you and your students. • A written commentary in which you describe, analyze and reflect on your teaching and interactions will also be submitted. • Both the video and the written commentary should demonstrate how you engage students and impact their learning. Component 1 Content Knowledge • In this computer-based assessment, you demonstrate knowledge of and pedagogical practices for teaching your content area. • You must demonstrate knowledge of developmentally appropriate content, which is necessary for teaching across the full age range and ability level of your chosen certificate area. • This is assessed through the completion of three constructed response exercises (30 min. each) and approximately 45 selected response items (60 minutes). Illinois NB Support System TRADITIONAL Face to face cohorts are organized regionally throughout the state. Sessions are geographically based. Online cohort support is offered through a university platform. Facilitated by trained NBCTs. Include teachers from many schools and districts. Many different certificates are represented. Candidates focus on their own work. Online readers are provided. Candidates choose to complete Component 1 and/ or Component 2. NATIONAL BOARD Professional Development Schools Consist of at least 10 teachers in the same school, district. Sessions are locally based. National Board Professional Development school cohorts are organized around a commonality in order to impact students, school, district. A specially trained NBCT facilitator, a teacher liaison and an administrator are part of the team supporting the professional development cohort with ongoing communication. Online readers are provided. Focus on school based learning by completing NB component 2 and includes conversation and reflection to prepare for the teacher evaluation and Common Core. NB Facilitators meet monthly online as a leadership community to plan sessions and problem solve. Materials are provided . Three year support (funding availability).
