Description: Society technological advances and environmental requirements claim for the development of highly effective, low cost and environmental friendly technologies able to degrade emerging organic pollutants. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are highly efficient treatments based on the generation of the powerful oxidizing agent hydroxyl radical capable of degrade organic compounds until their mineralization. However the use of these technologies requires the handling and manufacture of reagents or the use of power suppliers. Therefore the aim of this study is twofold: - - The development and optimization of AOPs for the treatment of organic polluted effluents and soils such as photocatalysis, electro-Fenton and electrochemical processes. The environmentally friendly production of energy from renewable sources such as microbial fuel cells and hydrogen evolution from water splitting.
