MISIÓN PARROQUIAL
MISSION STATEMENT
We, the people of St. John XXIII, are a multi-ethnic Roman Catholic
parish (founded on July 1, 2006) formed from the union of the Church
of the Resurrection, Fontana and St. Thomas More, Rialto. We seek
to nourish the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all families and people, so that
they can rejoice in the love of God in this life and in the life to come.
We endeavor to do this by fostering: an authentic Christian Stewardship, the Christian education of our youth and adults through Resurrection Academy and other programs, outreach to the poor and needy, and
the celebration of the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist.

FR. IMO’S REFLECTION CORNER
WILLINGNESS TO HEAL
In the first reading, the Jews are returning to their
homeland after 48 years of exile in Babylon. When they were
taken captive, the Babylonian soldiers killed many, broke down
the walls of Jerusalem, burnt the temple and destroyed everything of value. When they came back, life was not the same;
there was misery. Then Jeremiah tells the people that the exile
will end, tears will be replaced by brooks of water; the blind
will not stumble along the level road nor the mothers with their
children. It is a Second Exodus and the scattered will console
each other in their reunion. The verses before and after this section are poems of God’s everlasting divine love for Israel. God
had bound them to regain their hearts and orient their lives. In
Jesus Christ as recorded in the gospel, the messianic promises
spoken by the prophet Jeremiah are fulfilled. Like many other
episodes of healing, the healing of Bartimaeus testifies to the
coming of the Kingdom of God in the person of Jesus. In him,
the year of the Lord’s favor has begun for all humanity (Lk 4:17
-21).
If we look at the circumstances of Bartimaeus in today’s gospel, we see he did not have great prospects. Everyday
he came to the same spot at the entrance to the city. He could
not work but depended on others. He had nothing going for
him. He simply survived. You can imagine his joy when he
heard that Jesus was coming. What an opportunity! Opportunity is worth it only when we can embrace it for what it is. There
is an important truth that we must understand at this
point. When he met this opportunity and embraced it, temptation came. He had several obstacles that threatened to keep him
back from getting to Jesus. Opposition came from the crowd
but he persisted. This is where so many of us miss the
point. We want the road to the Lord very free from obstacles. Any little challenge we give up the fight. (1 Tim 6:12).
Worthy of note also is Bartimaeus’ willingness to experience a change. One of the obstacles to divine healing is the preoccupation of the sick with his or her condition: instead of looking up to Jesus, they become preoccupied with the pains of their wounds. Bartimaeus is different; he wants a change and is not caressing his problem. He shows his willingness to be healed by throwing away his garment. As a blind person, it is uncommon that he misses his steps often
times and falls into filthy and repulsive ditches. He does not consider
it appropriate to accept the new wine of healing with an old wineskin
(Matt. 9:17-18). Hence he throws it away.
Furthermore, for some years he has been living by begging. Begging on other hand attracts some income that makes some
lazy beggars not want to be alright and stop begging. The blind man
does not only detest his incapacitation but wants to be free from
it. The moment the opportunity comes he shows he is willing to
change. Unlike him many of us complain about enslaving situations
(smoking, pornography, drug addiction, illicit friendship, and unforgiveness) but we caress them and are never willing to break with
them. Today the church is asking us to learn from him what it means
to be convinced of a cause and allow that cause to dictate for us and
determine our response to decisions and choices. It is not enough to
observe some weakness in our lives but to be willing to break with
such a weakness.
It is unlikely we will face extreme situation such as Bartimaeus’ but different disgusting situations abound in our lives. The
goodness today is that God is able to help us come out of every ugly
situation we find ourselves. To encounter him at such moments we
need faith and right disposition, not without some temptations and
obstacles. But if we persist in our convictions, we shall surely testify
the goodness God’s help to us.

LA VOLUNTAD DE SANAR
En la primera lectura, los judíos están regresando a su
patria después de 48 años de exilio en Babilonia. Cuando fueron llevados cautivos, los babilónicos soldados asesinaron a
muchos, rompieron los muros de Jerusalén, quemaron el templo
y destruyeron todo de valor. Cuando volvieron, la vida no era la
misma; había miseria. Entonces Jeremías le dice a la gente que
terminara el exilio, lágrimas se sustituirá por arroyos de agua;
los ciegos no se tropezaran a lo largo de la carretera ni las madres con sus hijos. Es un segundo Éxodo y los disperses se
consolaran mutuamente en su reencuentro. Los versículos antes
y después de esta sección son poemas de la eternidad de Dios
divino amor por Israel. Dios los había obligado a recuperar su
corazón y orientar sus vidas. En Cristo Jesús como está registrado en el evangelio, se cumplen las promesas mesiánicas,
dichas por el profeta Jeremías. Como muchos otros episodios
de sanación, la sanación de Bartimeo atestigua la venida del
Reino de Dios en la persona de Jesús. En él, ha comenzado el
año de gracia del Señor para toda la humanidad (Lc 4:17-21).
Si nos fijamos en el caso de Bartimeo en el Evangelio
de hoy, vemos que no tenía grandes perspectivas. Todos los
días llegó al mismo lugar en la entrada a la ciudad. Él no podía
trabajar pero dependía de otros. No tenía nada para él. El simplemente sobrevivió. Se puede imaginar su alegría cuando oyó
que Jesús venía. Qué oportunidad! Oportunidad se merece solo
cuando nosotros podemos aceptarlo por lo que es. Hay una verdad
importante que debemos entender en este punto. Cuando conoció esta
oportunidad y se adaptó, llego la tentación. Tuvo varios obstáculos
que amenazaban mantenerlo detrás de llegar a Jesús. Oposición vino
de la muchedumbre, pero él persistió. Esto es donde muchos de nosotros perdemos el punto. Queremos que el camino al Señor sea muy
libre de obstáculos cualquier pequeño desafío renunciamos a la lucha.
(1 Tim 6:12).
También destaca voluntad de Bartimeo a experimentar un
cambio. Uno de los obstáculos a la sanación divina es la preocupación
de los enfermos con su condición: en lugar de buscar a Jesús, se vuelven preocupados por los dolores de sus heridas. Bartimeo es diferente;
él quiere un cambio y no es acariciando su problema. Él muestra su
deseo de ser sanado por tirando su ropa. Como una persona ciega, es
raro que él pierde sus pasos muchas veces y caiga en zanjas sucias y
repulsivas. Él no considera conveniente aceptar el vino nuevo de la
sanación en recipiente de cuero viejo (Mateo 9:17-18). Por lo tanto lo
lanza lejos.
Además de esto, desde hace algunos años vivía mendigando.
La mendicidad en otro lado atrae a algunos ingresos que hace que algunos perezosos no quieran estar bien y dejen de mendigar. El ciego
no sólo detesta su incapacidad pero quiere ser libre de él. El momento
que sale la oportunidad demuestra que está dispuesto a cambiar. A
diferencia de él muchos de nosotros nos quejamos de esclavizantes
situaciones (fumar, pornografía, adicciones de drogas, amistades ilícitas, y no perdonar) pero les acariciamos y no estamos dispuestos a
romper con ellos. Hoy la Iglesia nos pide que aprendamos de él lo que
significa ser convencidos de una causa y esa causa dicte para nosotros
y determinar nuestra respuesta a las decisiones y elecciones. No es
suficiente observar cierta debilidad en nuestras vidas, sino estar dispuestos a romper con tal debilidad.
Es poco probable enfrentar una situación extrema como la de
Bartimeo pero diferentes situaciones desagradables en nuestras vidas.
Hoy en día la bondad es que Dios es capaz de ayudarnos a salir de cada
situación fea que nos encontramos. Encontrarnos con él en un momento que necesitamos fe y correcta disposición, no sin algunas tentaciones y obstáculos. Pero si persistimos en nuestras convicciones, seguramente vamos testificar la ayuda de Dios a nosotros.

Celebrating the Holy Mass with music and song is more pleasing to our Lord.
For this, our Parrish has made a great investment, purchasing new song books.
We wish for all of you to enjoy them, using them appropriately. While, taking
care of them, especially ensuring that children do not destroy them and that
they are not removed from the Church. If you wish to purchase your own book

Libros de Canto Nuevos!
La Santa Misa celebrada con música y canto es más agradable a nuestro Señor.
Para esto, nuestra Parroquia ha hecho una gran inversión, comprando nuevos
libros de canto. Deseamos que los disfruten y los usen apropiadamente. Al
mismo tiempo, cuidando los libros, especialmente, que no los destruyan los
niños y que no sean sacados del templo. Si tiene interés en obtener uno de

Newspaper Drive is this weekend
October 24 & 25 in the Fontana
Center. A bin is in the school side parking
lot for you to deposit your Newspaper.
La colecta de periódico es este fin de semana del 24 y 25 de Octubre en el centro parroquial de Fontana. Hay un contenedor a lado del estacionamiento de
la escuela en donde usted puede depositar su Periódico.
Resurrection Academy has an opening for a Preschool
Teacher/Aide for the school year 2015-2016
Qualifications are as follows:
(1) Must have at least 6 to 18 Early Childhood Education (ECE)
units and complies with the requirements of the California
Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
(2) Practicing Catholic and active member of a parish
(3) Must be in good health and shall be physically and mentally
capable of performing assigned tasks
(4) Must be interested to work with children and their parents
(5) Must demonstrate knowledge of the development needs of
children, and stressful situations.
(6) Must fulfill Diocesan requirements such as Safe Environmental
regulations, Diocesan Code, CCL code clearance, health
screening report, TB clearance, CPR and First Aid Certification,
and all required forms for employment.
Resurrection Academy is interviewing for Grade 1 substitute teacher
for November and December 2015. Minimum academic requirements
is a Bachelor’s Degree. This teacher shall possess a California teaching credential or shall show proof of enrollment in the credential
program. Teacher must also comply with Diocesan requirements such
as the Safe Environment regulations, Health screening reports, TB
clearance, Hepatitis B shots/waiver, and CPR and First Aid certifications.
