ENCOUNTER THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL
Year Two: Focus on the Domestic Church –
Marriage & Family
REFLECTION
4th Sunday of Advent
"Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste."
What was the rush? Why did Mary go so quickly to visit her cousins
Elizabeth and Zechariah? It's hard to know exactly what her purpose
was, but one thing is clear: Mary and Elizabeth shared a special connection. Perhaps Mary was anxious to be in the company of someone who could understand her unusual situation.
At this point, Mary was newly pregnant by the power of
the Holy Spirit. The verses preceding today's reading tell us about
the appearance of the Angel Gabriel and Mary's willingness to become the mother of the Messiah. Now, this child was already growing within her womb, but the whole thing was an incredible secret.
Who would believe her? In whom could Mary confide the unbelievable events that had taken place? We know that at some point later,
Joseph had a vision in a dream that allowed him to understand. But
before that dream came, he was planning to part ways with Mary. It
must have been during that difficult time that Mary went to see Elizabeth. And what joy that upon her arrival, Elizabeth immediately
understood. "Blessed is the fruit of your womb," Elizabeth cried out.
The same Holy Spirit who conceived Jesus in Mary's womb enlightened Elizabeth at this moment. What a consolation this must have
been to Mary.
This story reminds us of the importance of our own fellowship in the faith. Sharing our spiritual journey with other believers
who are receptive to the Holy Spirit is meant to be a source of encouragement and strength. We are not supposed to be in this alone.
As we worship and celebrate together with our faith community,
may we share with each other the real joy of this sacred season.

Deacon Corner: (By Deacon Al)
POPE FRANCIS’ YEAR OF MERCY PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ,
You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have
told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will
be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being
enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and
assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to
each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:
“If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible
Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness
and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord
risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be
clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in
ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought
after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a
year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and
the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the
intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the
Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Amen
Thanks to our speaker Peter McCourt who gave us a taste of the history of the
Pope’s impassioned and monumental encyclical Laudato Si. Pope Francis says,
“Human beings, while capable of the worst, are also capable of rising above themselves, choosing again what is good, and making a new start…”
Join us in January 10th. The topic: Mercy
“Situations can change; people can change. Be the first to seek to bring good. Do
not grow accustomed to evil, but defeat it with good.”
― Pope Francis, The Church of Mercy

they can do. We will continue to collect money through Easter to allow
us to reach this goal. Please stay tuned for further information on this
effort.

REFLEXIONES
4º Domingo de Adviento
Tal vez has visitado Tierra Santa y en el recorrido has visitado
