During these 50 days of Easter, which end with the celebration of Pentecost on May 24th, we continue to rejoice in the resurrection of our Lord. This season of Easter is a time of personal and communal transformation not just commemoration. As we reflect back on the mysteries of Holy Thursday and Good Friday, we do so from the perspective of the resurrection when by His death, Jesus destroyed our death and, by rising, restored our life. Everything is different now; His resurrection changes everything. How does the reality of resurrection of Jesus change the way you see life and the way you live your life? Congratulations to our neophytes and those we were fully initiated into Jesus Christ and the Church at the Easter Vigil and on Easter Sunday. We are blessed to call you our brothers and sisters in Christ! In today’s Scripture readings we get a glimpse into the life of the church after the Resurrection of Jesus. Do we need the church? Yes! Christianity is never lived in solitude! We experience the Divine Mercy of Christ through – and in – community, which is the church. If you would like to become more involved in your church community, please visit our parish website for a list of parish ministries and check the bulletin every Sunday. I also invite you to call me or the Director of Parish Ministries, Joni Fleming. The “Little Black Books” guided many of us through the 40 days of Lent. Please visit our parish website or 50daysofjoy.com to continue your journey of Easter joy and transformation. Fr. Brendan Manson THANK YOU! Our Holy Week liturgies were a powerful experience of God’s loving presence and action in our community. Together we journeyed through Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil, and a total of eleven Easter Masses. I am very grateful to the members of our parish who so generously shared their time and talents during Holy Week so that we - and the thousands who visited us – could more easily experience the warmth and grace of God and our Church. Be poor among the poor. We need to include the excluded and preach peace.” Pope Francis The second of the Seven Themes of Catholic Social Justices is a call to family, community, and participation: “The person is not only sacred but also social. How we organize our society—in economics and politics, in law and policy—directly affects human dignity and the capacity of individuals to grow in community. … ” For more on this and the other six principles of justice, stop by the display case in church entry gathering space to see our poster. Breakfast and Prayer Anyone? Join me at the Interfaith Annual Prayer Breakfast May 1st 7:30 –9:00 a.m. When people think of the changes of Vatican II, they usually think about the change from Mass in Latin to English. However, one of the watershed documents of the Council was Nostra Aetate which addressed the Catholic Church’s relationship to non-Christian religions. One of the joys of my priesthood has been my relationship with non-Catholic faith leaders. As an expression of our desire for dialogue and friendship with those of other faiths, please considering attending the Interfaith Council of South Orange County Annual Prayer Breakfast at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills on Friday May 1st from 7:30– 9 a.m. The first eight people who register with me by Thursday, April 16th are free. Register after April 16th is $20
