A Letter from our Principal
Dear Friends,
Please join us for National Catholic Schools Week,
our annual celebration of what makes education at St.
Mary Magdalen Catholic School outstanding! We
begin the week celebrating Mass as a parish
community, the foundation of our school. We then
have a week of activities planned to show what our
students are accomplishing and to celebrate the
community we have built to faithfully teach
tomorrow's leaders!
This year's National Catholic Schools Week theme
centers on community: “Catholic Schools:
Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service.” The
theme highlights the fact that schools are not only
communities themselves, they are also part of a
greater Church community.
The theme also focuses on key elements of Catholic
education: faith development, academic excellence,
and dedication to service. This theme expresses the
essence of Catholic education. We teach our students
about the tradition of their faith as well as how to live
it out through service to others. We maintain high
academic standards while supporting students to
reach their full potential. We believe in teaching the
whole child, mind, body, and spirit and to do so
partnering with parents, the primary educators of
their children. These elements are why families make
sacrifices to provide their children with a Catholic
education.
At St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School, we are proud
to offer an education that is distinctive among other
options. I hope you will visit us during Catholic
Schools Week. We are excited to have the
opportunity to showcase the many wonderful
offerings of our school.
Sunday, January 31:
10am Mass: Students will be shar ing in the
celebration.
Powder Puff Football Game: 1:30pm on the Soccer
Field. Proceeds will benefit breast cancer research
and help cover medical expenses for cancer treatment
for Ms. Morales, our Assistant Principal.
Monday, February 1:
Prospective Family Open House & Curriculum
Fair: Pr incipal Pr esentation at 7:00pm in the school
cafeteria.
Tuesday, February 2:
Open House & Curriculum Fair (School Cafeteria):

followed by tours of the school from 9:30 – 11:00am.
I am grateful every day for the teachers, staff,
parents, and volunteers who make our school a
success. Through their dedication and commitment,
our students are learning in a culture of faith,
academics, and service that is preparing them for life.
We thank God for the blessing of our school and for
the gift of our faith.
Sincerely in Christ,
Lorianne Rotz
Principal
In gratitude for God’s gifts of time and talent to all of
us, we gratefully acknowledge and salute:
CRISTINA BORRERO
Cristina faithfully serves as a Confirmation Prep
Disciple Volunteer. In addition, she has also served
with Kids-4-Jesus, the Thanksgiving Feast, and as an
Adult Baptism (RCIA) and Child Baptism Disciple
Volunteer.
In gratitude for the gifts we have received from God,
parishioners and visitors made a joyful return to the Lord
of $38,267 on January 23 and 24 for the mission and
ministries of St. Mary Magdalen. Thank you for helping
us carry out Christ’s mission and ministry. Thanks for

With deep gratitude, we thank you, Cristina!
“Our Catholic Appeal” is the diocesan appeal for support for its mission and ministries — a mission in
which St. Mary Magdalen is a part as a member of
this diocese. Each year, Bishop Noonan comes to us
requesting our support (which comes from our “other
half” of our Sacrificial Giving). In the next few weeks,
you will be receiving additional information about this
year’s effort. I wanted to share with you the participation of the top 10 parishes in the diocese from last
year’s appeal. The good news, we made it to the top
10 (bravo!) First time in years! Thanks for accepting
the challenge. I’m very grateful for you.
My goal this year is to have at least the same amount
of participation as Annunciation, our neighboring
parish, did last year (1,127 participating families).
Will you please help me meet this challenge?. If you
haven’t given in a while, will you please consider giving this year? Please take a step...
~ Thanks, Fr. Charlie

"Charitable gifting of your IRA minimum distribution:
This benefit was just made permanent in December of
2015. This is a sweet deal for IRA owners over the age
of 70½ who have to make a minimum distribution (and
subsequently pay the appropriate taxes). Instead of
taking the distribution, you can give up to $100,000
directly to a qualified charitable organization without
having to pay taxes on the money."
If you would like to make such a gift to St. Mary
Magdalen Parish, please call Lois Locey at
407.265.2317. She can send you a simple guide on
how to do this and answer any questions you might
have. To make a Qualified Charitable Distribution
(QCD) as described above, the donor needs to have
their donation sent directly by the financial institution
to a qualified charitable organization.
We are so blessed that you decided to join us! Won’t you join our
Catholic community by registering at St. Mary Magdalen?
Registration forms are available at the Connection Central
“Concierge” table in front of the Church, by calling Lisa Oak at
the Parish Office 407.265.2300, or by filling out the form below.
Please drop it in the mail, collection basket, or you can sign up
online at StMaryMagdalen.org.

If you should break your relationship with God, will you
lose your salvation?
No, Yes & Maybe: No, if you are sorry for the sin that has broken
your relationship with God, tell God that you are sorry and ask God’s
forgiveness, you will not lose your salvation. “If your sins are like
scarlet, they shall be made white as snow; and if they are red as
crimson, they shall be white as wool” (Is. 1:18). On Good Friday, the
Good Thief repented, asked Christ’s forgiveness and died in a good relationship with Jesus (Lk. 23: 39-43). On the other hand Yes - salvation can be lost if we persist in that broken relationship by not repenting our sins. God’s forgiveness is always
available, but God will not force it upon us. We have to want, receive and accept that forgiveness. It looks as though the “Thief
on the left” (Lk. 23:39) was a loser and missed salvation. And now –Maybe– in the sense that we are all in God’s care. God
wants all of us to be with him in heaven, so maybe, just maybe God will get us there. God works in eternity as well as in time.
His ways are not our ways, but when it comes to my salvation, I want to do my part– give God a chance to save me. Augustine
said it this way: “The God who created me without my consent, will not redeem me without my cooperation.”
