2015-2016
Dear Students and Parents:
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year in Cherry Creek Schools where we are
celebrating 65 years of educational excellence! Since our district was founded in
1950, it has provided the children of Cherry Creek with an outstanding education,
taught by exceptional classroom teachers in great neighborhood schools. We also
offer students a rich variety of opportunities in the arts, athletics and activities. The
Cherry Creek tradition of excellence continues today and I am excited that you will
be part of it during the 2015-2016 school year.
Let me share just a couple of examples of the excellence that exists here. The class
of 2015 earned more than $58 million in scholarships. Our teachers average 10
years’ experience, 75% of them have advanced degrees and our district has the
third-highest number of National Board Certified teachers in the state. Our great
neighborhood schools include many John Irwin School of Excellence and Governor’s
Distinguished Improvement award winners. Cherry Creek Schools is also ranked
number 143 of the 500 organizations named to the Forbes list of America’s Best
Employers for 2015. We are ranked the highest of the seven Colorado organizations
to make the list and we are the only school district in Colorado to be selected.
I hope your summer break gave you time to relax with family and friends, to
experience educational adventures outside the classroom and to prepare for another
year of academic success. We are ready for you – from our new kindergarteners in
the class of 2028 to our seniors in the class of 2016, and every student in between.
We are ready to help you develop new skills, acquire more knowledge, deepen your
understanding of the world and achieve your goals. Excellence abounds! Let’s go get
it!
Sincerely,
Harry C. Bull, Jr.

July 1, 2015 Dear Parent, Welcome to a new school year! It is my pleasure to invite you to our “Back to School Night.” This event is scheduled for Thursday, August 20, at 6:45pm. This is a great opportunity for you to meet your son/daughter’s teachers, get an overview of the course description, view programs and services available for your son/daughter, and to view the campus. The evening begins with a simulated student schedule. Parents may pick up a copy of your student’s schedule in front of the Main Office beginning at 6:15pm. The Activities Office and OPTCO, our parent organization, are sponsoring a “Clubs/Athletics Fair” in front of the Main Office in the horseshoe area. This will give you the opportunity to receive information about clubs and athletics available to Overland High School students. OPTCO is the most appropriate way for parents to support all Overland High School programs. One of our goals at Overland is to ensure students meet or exceed the college and career readiness standards. During you son/daughter’s Advisory class, I will share information with parents and students regarding four-‐year academic plan building, college and career readiness goals, preparing for scholarships, and college entrance exams. We are looking forward to seeing you all at 6:45pm on Thursday, August 20, 2015. On behalf of the entire Overland High School faculty and staff, we look forward to seeing you and to working with your children for the 2015-‐2016 school year. Sincerely, Leon Lundie Principal Overland High School
