Forecasting
Forecasting for next year has been completed. All students will be receiving a course verification form
in late May or early June. At that time, check over the course choices as well as alternate choices and
make any changes. This will be the FINAL opportunity to make any changes in selections for next year.
Make sure you are satisfied with your choices this spring. Call your student’s counselor if you have
questions.
Juniors met individually with their counselors to submit forecasting sheets. Students received the
Opportunities booklet sponsored by ECMC, Oregon Student Access Commission, and College Access
Challenge Grant Programs. This is a useful and important resource for exploring post high school
educational opportunities. Please ask your junior to share it with you.

SPRING UPDATES FROM THE CAV CENTER
ASPIRE volunteers are currently assisting Seniors with their final college decisions and
scholarship applications. Each year, Seniors have the opportunity to apply for “CHS
Scholarships”. These can be found on the “Naviance Scholarship List” and they are
labeled “CHS”. Deadlines vary between April and May. Juniors can still pick up their
PSAT scores and test booklets from the CAV Center. Register by May 8th to take the
June 6th SAT at CHS. Spring and summer college campus visits are encouraged for
students and parents. Sophomores can come to the CAV Center during their study hall
to research careers and colleges on Naviance and CIS. Freshmen will tour the CAV
Center April 13-16 during their study hall period to learn about Naviance, CIS, and the
CAV Center.
All students can search for extra summer learning opportunities on Naviance under
Enrichment Programs. Parents can assist their students by searching Naviance as a
guest. Find the “Quick Link” to Naviance on the Clackamas High School website. The

have been selected as finalists in the
2015 competition for National Merit
Scholarships.
These academically talented high
school seniors have an opportunity
to continue in the competition for
some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million.
National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a not-for-profit organization
that operates without government
assistance, was established in 1955
specifically to conduct the annual
National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds
and by approximately 440 business
organizations and higher education
institutions that share NMSC’s goals
of honoring the nation’s scholastic
champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
The following students have been
selected as commended scholars:
Dmitry Dubovoy, Adam Duell, Hyejin Jeong, Sarah Jones, Shawn Lee,
Jeff Qian, and Timothy Schwer.
These students placed among the
top five percent of more than 1.4
million students who entered the
2015 competition by taking the 2013
Preliminary SAT/National Merit

Hello Choir Families. It is time
to begin a discussion about A-Choir
Tour 2016. We travel every other year
and have previously performed in the
most prestigious venues in San Diego
and San Francisco, Washington D.C.,
Baltimore, Seattle, and Carnegie Hall
in New York City (twice!).
Where would you like to see the
choir in 2016? Dream big! We will
need a parent fundraising committee
and chaperones for the trip.
Current A-Choir, Cavelles and Men’s
Ensemble parents and students:
please come to a parent meeting in
the choir room at CHS (rm 601) on
TUESDAY, May 19th at 7:00pm. We
will talk about where we have been
and dream about where we would
like to go. We will explore the educational reasons for tour. We will talk
about raising money and how much
easier it is if students begin now.
Seattle? Vancouver? Spokane? San
Antonio? Minneapolis? Memphis?
Nashville? Boston? New York City?
San Diego? Honolulu? Philadelphia? Where would you like to go?
Choir Tour changes lives and make
lifelong friends and memories. We
grow immensely from these academic experiences. Don’t miss out!

A NOTE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE:
The weather is warming up. Time to get outside and exercise! Bike riding is a great way to get exercise and fresh air and share
time as a family. But before you and the kids rush out and start pedaling, there’s an important factor that you need to consider
— safety.
Helmet Basics
Bicycle helmet use should not be optional for anyone in your family, no matter where you are or how short the ride. In Oregon,
it’s the law. Many bike accidents involve a head injury, so a crash could mean permanent brain damage or death for someone
who doesn’t wear one while riding. In fact, each year in the United States, about half a million kids are seriously injured in
bicycle-related accidents, and most of those injuries could have been avoided if a helmet was worn. To protect against brain
injury, make sure your kids wear a correctly fitting helmet on every ride.
Here are some things to keep in mind when buying a helmet:
● Pick bright colors or fluorescent colors that are visible to drivers and other cyclists.
● Look for a helmet that’s well ventilated.
● Make sure that the helmet has a CPSC or Snell sticker inside. These indicate that the helmet meets standards set by the
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) or the Snell Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit group that tests helmet safety.
● Make sure your child’s helmet fits correctly and can be adjusted.
You should be able to get help finding a well-fitting helmet and adjusting it properly at any bicycle store. When kids wear a
helmet, make sure that the straps are fastened. Also make sure they don’t wear any other hat underneath it.
Be sure to replace any helmet made before 1999. If your child hits any surface hard while wearing a helmet, replace it — helmets lose their capacity to absorb shock after taking serious hits.
