The students have been
working hard on their school
work and extracurricular activities. On Wednesday, December
9th, we presented our annual
Christmas concert at the Ralph
G. Reed Middle School, located
at 200 Half Mile Road, in Central Islip at 7:00 PM.
The Christmas Concert consisted of three parts:
School Band, under the direction of Ilya Shteynman, band director from Paul Effman Music Service, with 58 students playing their favorite instruments; Glee Club, with 35 students participating
under the direction of Erin Mavroudis, our school
music teacher; Drama Club performing: “Is It Really
Christmas” under the direction of Ms. Swain and
Mrs. Roth with 10 students participating.
8th grade students continue to raise funds for
their class trip. They are selling “drawstring backpacks” with our school logo. The backpacks are
only $5 and have been very popular.

called (if not you may contact the individuals on the next
list) by parishioners who need snow removal.
So, if you NEED SNOW REMOVAL OR YOU CAN

Lord Jesus Christ,
you have taught us to be merciful
like the heavenly Father,

YEAR OF MERCY REFLECTIONS!!
BEATITUDES: "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy" (Matt. 5:7)
Mercy is where we do not really get what we truly deserve. In other words, if God was not merciful, we would receive the
full measure of His wrath upon sinful human beings. God was not merciful to Jesus on the cross because the entire wrath of
God was poured out on Him for what should have been ours. Webster defines mercy in a somewhat different manner but I
still like it: It is compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender…showing leniency. Mercy in a sense is just the
opposite of grace as mercy is that which we don’t get but we do deserve (God’s wrath) and grace is that which we do get but
don’t deserve (because of our sins).
STORY: An older man was walking the beach early one morning, bending down to pick up starfish and throwing them
out into the ocean. A teenager came by and asked, "Old man, what are you doing?" "These starfish will die of dehydration
once the sun comes up high," he said. "I'm throwing them back into the ocean so they will live." "Ha!" the young man said
sarcastically. "The beach goes on for miles, and there are millions of starfish. What does it matter what you do?" The old
man looked at the starfish in his hand and then flipped it to safety in the waves. "It matters to this one," he said. What you
do for others does make a difference. ONE INDIVIDUAL ACT OF MERCY MATTERS.
The parable of the Good Samaritan r epr esents the essence of J esus' teaching on mer cy. The Par able offer s us thr ee
steps on how to show mercy to others. Some people live with the attitude, "What's mine is mine, and you can't have it."
That's the perspective of the priest and Levite who pass by the wounded man. The attitude of Jesus is that of the good Samaritan, "What's mine is yours if you need it."
First, if you desir e to show mer cy, you must SEE the one who needs mer cy. The pr iest and Levite saw and passed by
on the other side. They saw but did not truly see. The Samaritan saw him—not just another statistic of violence or one
among many victims—but the person. You must pray that God will give you eyes to see the person who needs your help.
Second, if you desir e to show mer cy, you must let your FEELINGS play a significant r ole. The good Samar itan " took
pity on him" (Luke 10:33). He could have played it safe by rationalizing that THE MAN IN THE DITCH WAS another
race, religion or culture. **But he let the emotion of compassion influence his behavior AND SHOW MERCY.
Third, a person of MERCY doesn't just think about doing something—he or she takes action (DO). The good Samar itan
"went to him." The merciful person moves outside of his or her own COMFORT ZONE to alleviate the hurt in another. But
the merciful person USES HIS/HER RESOURCES to make someone else's life better.

BIENAVENTURANZAS: "Bienaventurados los misericordiosos, porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia" (Mateo 5: 7.)
Misericordia es donde realmente no conseguimos lo que realmente merecemos. En otras palabras, si Dios no fuese misericordioso, podríamos recibir la plenitud de su ira, los seres humanos pecadores. Dios no fue misericordioso a Jesús en la cruz, porque toda la ira de
Dios se derramó sobre él por lo que debería haber sido nuestra. Webster define la misericordia de una manera un tanto diferente, pero
todavía me gusta: Es la compasión o la tolerancia mostrada especialmente a un delincuente.... mostrando clemencia. Misericordia en un
sentido es justo lo opuesto a la gracia como misericordia que es lo que no conseguimos pero nosotros merecemos (la ira de Dios) y la
gracia es la que nosotros recibimos, pero no merecemos (a causa de nuestros pecados).
HISTORIA: Un hombre mayor estaba caminando temprano una mañana en la playa, recogiendo estrellas de mar y tirándolas al mar.
Un adolescente se acercó y le preguntó: "Viejo, ¿qué estás haciendo?" "Estas estrellas de mar morirán a causa de la deshidratación una
vez que el sol salga", el dijo. "Estoy lanzándolas al mar, así volverán a vivir." "¡Ah!" el joven dijo con sarcasmo. "La playa se prolonga por
millas, y hay millones de estrellas de mar. ¿Qué importa lo que haces?" El anciano miró a la estrella de mar que tenía en su mano y luego la tiro en las olas. "Es importante para ésta", él dijo. Lo que se hace por los demás hace la diferencia. UN ACTO INDIVIDUAL DE
ASUNTOS DE MISERICORDIA.
La parábola del buen samaritano representa la esencia de la enseñanza de Jesús sobre la misericordia. La parábola nos ofrece tres
pasos sobre cómo mostrar misericordia a otros. Algunas personas viven con la actitud, "Lo que es mío es mío, y tú no puedes tenerlo."

es mío es tuyo si lo necesita."

Segundo, si Ud. desea mostrar misericordia, debe dejar que sus SENTIMIENTOS juegan un papel importante. El buen samaritano "se
apiadó de él" (Lucas 10:33). Podría haber actuado seguro mediante la racionalización de que EL HOMBRE EN LA ZANJA fue de otra
raza, religión o cultura. ** Pero dejó que la emoción de la compasión influya en su comportamiento y muestra misericordia.
Tercero, una persona de MISERICORDIA no sólo piensa en hacer algo, él o ella toma acción (HACER). El buen samaritano "se acercó a
