The ¿rst week of Advent marks the
beginning of the new church year. Pope
Francis has declared this a Jubilee Year
of Mercy. A time for us to reÀect on the
great mercy that God has shown to His
people. In the Old Testament (chapters 25
and 27 of Leviticus), a Jubilee Year was
declared every 50 years. It was a time
when slaves were given their freedom,
debts were cancelled and people were
restored to their land.
Through the sacri¿ce of Jesus Christ,
all these have been done for us. We are
freed from the slavery of sin. The debts
that we have because of our sins have
been cancelled and we are restored as
citizens of the Kingdom of God.
Because of the mercy that has been
shown to us, we have the obligation to
show the same mercy to those who have
offended us. Is there someone in your life
that you can show God’s mercy to?
La primera semana de Adviento marca el
principio del nuevo año de la iglesia. El
Papa Francisco ha declarado este año un
Jubileo de la Misericordia. Un tiempo para
reÀexionar en la misericordia tan grande
que Dios le ha demostrado a su pueblo.
En el Antiguo Testamento (capítulos 25
y 27 del Libro Levítico) un Año Jubilar

We have been talking about Perpetual
Adoration for a few weeks and everyone
is asking the same question: When are
we going to begin? God willing, we’re
scheduled to begin Perpetual Adoration on
January 3, 2016 after the 5:30pm Mass!
HURRAH!

Prior to January, there are a few things
that are indispensable. We have had an
enthusiastic response and many people
have already signed up for an hour or
more. However, unless we have every
time slot ¿lled, we will not be able to begin.
We are exhorting you to give priority to
our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and
sign up to come to Adoration and spend
an hour in solitude, on a one-to-one basis,
opening your heart to Him, who loves
you more than you will ever know. You
will enjoy the peace and joy that can only
come from His grace.

stay awake one hour with Him?

On April 11, 2015 before Pope Francis
celebrated vespers in St. Peter’s Basilica
he formally presented the “bull of indiction,”
titled “Misericordiae Vultus” (“The Face of
Mercy”). This proclamation for 2015-2016
marks the Holy Year of Mercy. Beginning
the year on December 8, the Pope urges
us to unite and contemplate on God’s
mercy for them, and understand that
they are called to be merciful to others.
Pope Francis explains that mercy is “the
beating heart of the Gospel”. The Pope
is encouraging us all to implement “24
Hours for the Lord” especially during Lent,
and to actively and consistently practice
the corporal works of mercy.
On the cover, parishioner Gino Vizzi
receives a special blessing from Pope
Francis. Gino was diagnosed at the
age of 16 with chronic myelogenous
leukemia (CML), a rare form of cancer.
He launched the Pray4foundation.org to
help fund childhood cancer research and
to sponsor other children who are also
¿ghting for their lives.

OLG is the Patroness of the Americas
and of the New Evangelization. We
want to encourage the English speaking
community to embrace this Feast Day
as enthusiastically as the Spanish
speaking community. For many years
there has been a fabulous festival held
at the Church on the Vigil of the Feast
of OLG. This year the Spanish speaking
community is making a special effort
to welcome the rest of the Church to
attend and make accommodations to
embrace their participation. Everyone is
encouraged to make this event a part of
their family tradition at the Advent and
