As I write this article for the second Sunday
of Advent, I am ¿nishing the pilgrimage to
Israel and am watching the news of the
attacks in Paris. Just a few days ago we
went to Bethlehem and visited the birthplace
of the Prince of Peace who came to bring us
hope and peace. As we move through this
Advent, we prepare ourselves to celebrate
the coming again of the Christ child. Our
peace is often tested in our lives perhaps
even daily. I have prayed this week for
peace . . . the peace that comes only from
Christ. The peace that needs to permeate
our hearts and be lived out in our lives every
day. This Advent can be a time for us to
open our lives to the Prince of Peace and
share Him in all that we do and say. This
time of the year is often chaotic as we do
even more than usual in our daily activities.
But we should not let the seasonal chaos
interfere with the peace that the Lord is
sharing with us. Prayer is our best tool to
use and also realizing that we don’t need to
get ourselves caught up in things that are
not important but remember what this time
is all about . . . Preparing for the Prince of
Peace.
Mientras escribo este artículo para el
segundo domingo de Adviento, estoy
terminando la peregrinación a Israel y
estoy viendo las noticias de los atentados
en París. Hace apenas unos días fuimos
a Belén y visitamos el lugar de nacimiento
del Príncipe de Paz, que vino a traernos
la esperanza y la paz. A medida que
avanzamos en Adviento, nos preparamos
para celebrar la venida del Niño Jesús.
Nuestra paz es puesta a prueba en nuestras
vidas, tal vez hasta diario. He orado esta
semana por la paz . . la paz que sólo viene
de Cristo. La paz que debe permear nuestro
corazón y ser vivida en nosotros todos los
días. Este tiempo de Adviento puede ser un
momento de abrir nuestras vidas al Príncipe

Preparen el camino
Almighty and ever-living God, you are
the fount of all holiness, the source of our
salvation.
Through the many gifts you bestow on us,
you reveal your majesty and splendor.
For the times we ignore these gifts and the
gifts of your presence and love, grant us
forgiveness, Lord.
When our hearts are troubled and we turn
away from you, smooth the paths made
rough by sin and straighten our winding
ways.
Give us ears to hear the prophet’s cry to
repent and courage to live a life worthy of
your kingdom.
Help us to live as did St. Paul, a prisoner
of Christ, who with a heart ¿lled with joy
prepared the people for your coming.
God, grant us your salvation and peace;
help us to be pure and blameless in the
presence of your Son, Jesus, so that we
might be ready to welcome him when he
comes again in glory. We ask this through
Christ our Lord. Amen.
Dios eterno y todopoderoso, origen de
toda santidad y de nuestra salvación.
Mediante los dones que nos concedes
revelas tu esplendor y majestad.
Perdónanos por relegar tus dones e
ignorar tu presencia amorosa.
Cuando nuestro corazón se turbe y nos
alejemos de ti, endereza los senderos

Announcing the start of a new ministry, The
Special Needs Ministry, here at Prince of
Peace.
Anunciando el comienzo de un nuevo
Ministerio, el “Ministerio de Necesidades
Especiales” aquí en Príncipe de paz.
The Special Needs Ministry will provide a
social outlet for individuals of all ages and
levels of disability, and through this social
outlet we will also be providing a respite
for the parents and/or caregivers of our
participants. We will create a loving and
accepting environment for participants,
and encourage volunteers to serve and
appreciate the gifts and talents of persons
with special needs.
El Ministerio de Necesidades Especiales
proporcionará una puerta de ayuda social
para las personas de todas las edades
y niveles de discapacidad, y a través
de esta puerta de ayuda social también
proporcionará un respiro para los padres

The cover is our very own Deacon
Bill Donohue who dresses up as
St. Nicholas to teach us the life
lessons of this disciple. St. Nick’s life
demonstrates to us the importance of
being like a child. He reminds us that
being “good” is a year long endeavor.
We learn to give by giving and
depending on God, just like children
who receive and depend on their
parents. With that action we believe
our eternal rewards are provided to
us by our Heavenly Father. As we
continue our journey as disciples and
allow others Encounter Christ in us, we
can look at St. Nick as role model for
every season in our lives.

For all RCIA and LifeTeen students
only (grades 3-12). The Archdiocese
of Atlanta requires all young people
to participate in the “Virtus Teaching
Touching Safety” Safe Environment
Training in an effort to provide a safe
environment for all children and protect
our children from sexual abuse. When
you registered your child for faith
formation, you gave permission for
him/her to be part of this training.
“Peace be with you!” With these words, the
Risen Lord greeted his frightened Apostles
in the Upper Room on the day of his
Resurrection. They were troubled, anxious,
and fearful—much like each one of us at
some point in our lives. Christ repeated
the words, “Peace be with you.” But then
he added, “Receive the holy Spirit. Whose
sins you forgive are forgiven them” (Jn
20:19-23).
What an extraordinary gift! The Risen
Lord was proclaiming that all the suffering
he had just endured was in order to
make available the gifts of salvation and
forgiveness. He wanted the Apostles to
receive these gifts. He wanted them to
become apostles of this forgiveness to
others.

“¡La paz esté con ustedes!” Con estas
palabras el Señor Resucitado saludó a sus
asustados Apóstoles en el Cenáculo el día
de su Resurrección. Estaban confundidos,
ansiosos y temerosos, muy parecido a
como nos sentimos nosotros en algún
momento de nuestras vidas. Cristo repitió
estas palabras, “La paz esté con ustedes.”
Pero entonces añadió, “Reciban el Espíritu
Santo. A quienes ustedes perdonen los
pecados, queden perdonados” (Jn 20:1923).
¡Qué regalo más maravilloso! El Señor
Resucitado estaba proclamando que todo
el sufrimiento que acababa de padecer
había ocurrido para que los dones de
la salvación y del perdón estuvieran
disponibles a nosotros. Él quería que los
Apóstoles recibieran estos dones, y que
ellos se convirtieran para los demás en
apóstoles de este perdón.

community to embrace this Feast Day
as enthusiastically as the Spanish
speaking community. For many years
there has been a fabulous festival held
at the Church on the Vigil of the Feast
of OLG. This year the Spanish speaking
community is making a special effort
to welcome the rest of the Church to
attend and make accommodations to
embrace their participation. Everyone is
encouraged to make this event a part of
their family tradition at the Advent and
