Pastor’s Letter
Dear Parishioners,
We thank you for taking time to pray the Rosary during this month of October. We thank the leader teams who
assist us to lead it each week. We thank many of you who signed up to volunteer in different ministries within
our regional parishes. Thank you for taking the classes for Safe Environment to protect and assist those who
engage with our parishes ministries. We are trying to provide a safe place for all different activities that we offer. We thank Jacob and Quang, and others who assist us with instructions in different languages to assist all
the volunteers. I am very pleased to see that we are following the Archdiocese's guideline in this area. I encourage those who are not taking the class to do so, because it is a requirement for all those who serve in the area of
finance and who are involved with children and the elderly.
We thank all the teachers and teachers aides for this year who are assisting us with the Faith Formation. We
have more than 250 students who are in the religious education this year. We have many different programs in
this area to assist our regional parishes. We thank Monty and his wife who assist us with the Adult Education
this year. We have people signed up each Wednesday night at St. Ann's Library. I am very pleased that we
have this program so parents can be in the class while their children also are in the class as well (CCD).
We are very pleased to have the school building at St.
Ann Parish cleaned for the use of many different programs that we have at St. Ann. We thank the volunteers who came to assist with the cleaning up. We
thank the "Young At Heart Group" at St. Ann's
Church who made pies and cookies to sell to fund
raise to pay for the cleaning up of the classroom for
the CCD and other Faith Formation classes during the week and weekend.
We thank the fund raising committees with the coordinators of different groups at Sacred Heart's Church who
worked hard on fund raising for the demolition of the old school building and the construction of the parish
Activities Center (to provide a place for Faith Formation and all different activities of our parish).
We thank you for supporting St. John of the Woods Parish with the October Fest weekend. There are many
people who put a lot of time into this event. We thank the core team who organized it and to you for supporting
it.
You are cordially invited to bring your children to Mass each week. It is important for them to join us when we
are worshiping together. It is the practical way to teach them about the faith that we believe.
We welcome Bishop Brown from American Samoa who came to visit the Samoan community at St. Ann's
Church last Sunday. We thank Father Laga and the Samoa Leadership who represented me to welcome Bishop
Brown, as he attended the Transition Deacon ordination at Mt. Angel Seminary for a Samoan seminarian who
is studying at this seminary. On his way home, he visited different Samoan communities to thank them for
praying and supporting the vocation to the priesthood.
You are cordially invited to attend the Mass on All Saints and All Souls to pray for our deceased brothers and
sisters. We have sent out a letter to those families who had their loved one passed away this year to come to
our Eucharistic celebration and light a candle at this Mass to pray for them.
You will receive the Parish Annual Report so you can know what we have done for the year and what we are
working on for our Long Range Plan (implementation) that you have asked us to work on. Please read the report carefully so you can make sure that we are on the right direction of what we have planned. May the Lord
continue to bless upon you and your family! We deeply appreciate your continue support and I will see you
next weekend. I just got home from my time away to relax, pray and to rest. I thank you all for your prayers
and support.
Sincerely yours in Christ,

The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines a Synod as: a
meeting of bishops to discuss the doctrinal and pastoral needs of
the church. Sometimes the words synod & council are used
interchangeably. Pope Francis has scheduled two assemblies or
synods to address the crisis of modern marriages and how to
compassionately tend to those whose marriages have broken
apart. The first synod will run from October 5-19 and will be an
“extraordinary” synod assembly, one outside the regular cycle of
such meetings. It is anticipated that in attendance will be over a
150 bishops, patriarchs of Eastern Catholic Churches, Vatican
officials and 30 official observers, including married couples.
The 2014 Synod will identify the problems facing marriage today
and come up with possible solutions. Included in this context
will be the pastoral care for people dealing with troubled unions,
divorced and remarried without an annulment. One of the present
day crisis is that fewer people are actually getting married or they
are divorcing without obtaining an annulment. The end result is:
split up, get a divorce, remarry or co-habit. Besides annulments,
the issue of Communion for those divorced and remarried will be
examined in great detail. There is some disagreement within the
college of Cardinals, bishops and theologians on how to handle
the Church’s stand on indissolubility of marriage. The second
gathering called an “ordinary” assembly of the synod will
convene in October, 2015. Preceding it in late September, will be
the World Meeting of Families-Philadelphia 2015. This second
Assembly of about 250 participants will be a consultative body
not legislative. The final disposition will come from Pope
Francis. Stay tuned for future columns on what should be an
interesting year of the Family!

and renew their relationship with Christ and his Church.
Reflections for Respect Life
Month, October, 2014 (USCCB.ORG)
Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley, O.F.M. , Chairman.
“Each of Us is a Masterpiece of God’s Creation”
Continuing...
Our mission is to show each person the love of Christ. As uniquely created individuals, we each have unique gifts which we are called to use to share Christ’s love. We
are continually given opportunities to do so in our interactions with the cashier at the
grocery store, our spouses, children, friends and even the people we encounter in traffic. Each of these moments is valuable beyond our realization. We may never know
how much a simple gesture of compassion may affect someone’s life.
As the 2014 Respect Life Program begins, let us take a moment to reflect on the
theme, “Each of Us is a Masterpiece of God’s Creation,” and how this truth affects
both our understanding of ourselves and others and the way we live. Pastoral and educational resources of the program can be found at www.usccb.org/respectlife.
Although we set aside October to particularly pray for respect for all human life, let
us never cease this urgent work. I’m grateful to the many parishes and schools nationwide which participate in the program during October, Respect Life Month, and
throughout the year.
Prayer of the Faithful ~ October 19th

Come hear the amazing testimonies!
Immaculée Ilibagiza was born and raised in a
small village in Rwanda, Africa. Her life was
turned upside down in 1994 when the country
erupted in tribal warfare. While in hiding, anger
and resentment were destroying her mind, body
and spirit. It was then that Immaculée turned to
prayer. Hear her story of hope, forgiveness, and
the value of life.
Abby Johnson has always had a fierce determination to help women in need. It was this desire
that both led Abby to a career with
Planned Parenthood, and caused her to flee the
organization and become an outspoken advocate
for the pro-life movement.

MISSION STATEMENT
We are a people of God unified in his love. As Roman Catholic Community, we are faithful to Jesus’ teachings and our Sacred Catholic
Tradition. Our devotion to the Lord comes from the Liturgy, the Sacraments and multiethnic people who embrace our community and welcome all newcomers. We foster the unique expressions of each culture and honor the gifts they bring. Through our commitment to Christ’s
Commandments, we provide an environment that will foster spiritual growth and reflect Jesus’ love for all in our community .
