We have begun the season of Advent
and many happenings are going on
. . . new logo . . . new bulletin design
. . . thanks to our communications
department. We are continuing to
move to the completion of construction
. . . we are getting closer and closer . .
. thanks for the prayers to “Our Lady of
Completion” and “St. Bob the Builder”.
We are also entering the “Year of
Mercy”. Who does not need that? I
think that all of us would like to receive
some mercy but also we need to share
that Mercy with others. Reconciliation
is a great start . . . for this Advent
Season.
Estoy escribiendo este artículo desde

Behind Pink
La historia detrás
del Rosado
The pink candle signi¿es joy as it is lit on
Gaudete Sunday–named for the entrance
antiphon for that Sunday’s Mass: “Rejoice
(gaudete) in the Lord always, again I say,
rejoice.” The joy is subdued, however, as the
penitential violet of the other weeks lessens to
rose as we move closer to Christmas.

We’re half way there! Many have signed up
but we will NOT begin Perpetual Adoration
unless all of the time slots are ¿lled. So far
we have just over 150 guardians signed up
and almost as many substitute guardians.

Click the box “Weekly Commitment” and
choose the day and time you would like to
commit to coming each week to be with
Jesus. What better way to spend the gift
of our time than an hour each week in his
holy presence.
If you are unable to commit to the same
time each week, sign up to be a substitute
during one of the four quadrants of the
night, morning, afternoon or evening.
Blue Cards are another way to sign up.
Completed cards go in the red box at the
table/kiosk, or at the reception desk at the
parish of¿ce or in the collection.
Child care a concern? The nursery will be
available Tuesday - Thursday 6pm - 9pm.
We will begin on 3 January after the
5:30pm Mass only if we have enough
people. Please don’t delay . . . sign up this
weekend!

As Advent is patterned in part after Lent,
Gaudete Sunday is asimilar to the Lenten
Laetare Sunday, which also represents joy
and falls at the midpoint of Lent. Which leads
to the explanation for the pink candle. In
the ancient Church on Laetare Sunday, the
Pope gave a citizen a pink rose. The tradition
continues, as popes bestow golden roses
on Catholic rulers and now, on places of
devotion.
Following the papal rose custom, bishops
and priests began wearing rose-colored
vestments on Laetare Sunday. The Church
then brought the Lenten practice of rose
vestments to Advent on Gaudete Sunday. As
a result, the pink candle gained a place in the
Advent wreath.

que se enciende el Domingo Gaudete –llamado

Fiesta de la Guadalupana: 12 December is
the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
This Mexican tradition has also been
adopted by many people from Central and
South America living in the United States.
This is one of the most popular religious
feasts among Hispanics in the United
States. Many parishes throughout the
country celebrate this feast day by doing
reenactments of the apparitions of Our
Lady of Guadalupe to Juan Diego, praying
a morning rosary dedicated to her, and
bringing her the traditional “Mañanitas”
with mariachi bands singing songs to
praise her. Our Lady of Guadalupe is also
considered the patroness of the unborn.
Fiesta de la Guadalupana: el 12 de
diciembre es el día de Nuestra Señora
de Guadalupe. Esta tradición mexicana
también ha sido adoptada por muchos
devotos de Centro y Surmérica que
viven en los Estados Unidos, y es una

The rosary is a sacramental
item that the Catholic Church
recognizes as helping promote
one's belief in our faith. It is
an aid in the devotion to God.
There are many stories about
the origin of the rosary, dating
back to pagan religions. People
used "worry beads" to focus on
an objective; or used to pray the
Psalms. Legend says that the
Blessed Mother appeared to St.
Dominic and gave him a rosary
to pray for the conversion of
sinners. In 1917, the Blessed
Virgin Mary appeared to three
children in Fatima, Portugal
and asked the children to use
the rosary as a weapon against
sel¿shness and sin, especially
for the conversion of Russia.
