Estimada comunidad
de St. Hilda’s:
Muchas gracias a todos los
padres que asistieron a la
ceremonia de Pascua. Espero hayan podido descansar
durante el receso de Pascuas
y que lo hayan disfrutado
junto a amigos y familiares.
En este panorama económico
difícil que estamos atravesando, uno de los elementos
clave que nos ayudarán a enfrentarlo es el concepto
de comunidad y enfrentar los desafíos con el apoyo y
el amor mutuo. No es un momento fácil, pero todos
tenemos que hacer ese esfuerzo extra para construir
relaciones significativas y esforzarnos por mantener a
nuestra comunidad positiva y mirando hacia adelante.
Con este fin, la semana que viene celebraremos nuestra tradicional Semana de la Amistad durante la cual
nuestros alumnos y el personal participarán de una
amplia gama de actividades que tienen como objetivo
construir amistades positivas y relaciones constructivas. Las actividades se organizaron con el apoyo del
Equipo de Orientación e involucran, en distintos momentos y lugares durante la semana, a todo nuestro
alumnado y personal, con la intención de que implementemos estos conceptos e ideas para hacer que
nuestra comunidad sea cada vez más fuerte.
Como parte de nuestro compromiso en desarrollar
alumnos ciudadanos del mundo, ofrecemos varias
oportunidades de intercambios y visitas. Valentina
Dallasta, egresada 2014, se encuentra en este momento en Memphis, Tennessee, como parte de un intercambio escolar de 4 meses organizado por la English
Spreaking Union. A cambio, nosotros recibiremos un
alumno de los Estados Unidos durante los meses de
agosto, septiembre y octubre. El acuerdo es que lo
alojemos por un período de tiempo con familias para
que pueda experimentar la vida familiar en Argentina
mientras asiste al colegio y otros eventos. El alumno
seleccionado habla español con fluidez y es una excelente persona, pasó un riguroso proceso de selección
para garantizar su idoneidad para esta experiencia.
Si alguno de ustedes y su familia nos pueden ayudar
con este proyecto alojándolo durante 2-4 semanas,
me complacerá compartir con ustedes los detalles del
acuerdo y comenzar el proceso de introducción, para
que al momento de su llegada no sea un desconocido.
A medida que avanzamos en el año los alumnos deberían comenzar a usar el uniforme de invierno, pero

HOY, 20 HS!
como todavía no hace tanto frío se ha decidido que el
cambio de uniforme sea a partir de lunes 4 de mayo,
es decir, luego del receso de otoño. De esta manera,
también tienen tiempo para organizar los elementos
del uniforme. Obviamente pueden usar pulóveres y
camperas reglamentarias si llegara a hacer frío entre
hoy y el 4 de mayo, pero espero ver a todos nuestros
alumnos con el uniforme de invierno completo luego
del receso.
Por último, deseo felicitar a todos los participantes de
la competencia Cross Country que se realizó el miércoles pasado. Estas carreras son una prueba de carácter
y resistencia, y me agradó ver a tantos alumnos dar lo
mejor de sí durante el evento. También, aprecio mucho
el apoyo que brindan tantos padres y miembros de
la comunidad a estos eventos, como así también los
esfuerzos del Departamento de Educación Física por
estar continuamente mejorando la organización del
evento. Felicitaciones a los ganadores y una mención
especial a todos los participantes.

Miss Gretel y Miss Mer - Docentes Sala de 4 PM
Sala de 3 - Turno tarde
Poco a poco los chicos de Sala de 3 se han ido adaptando al turno tarde. Desde el comienzo de clases
hemos estado haciendo énfasis en las rutinas diarias
y hábitos de escucha y convivencia. Notamos que
muchos estaban teniendo dificultades para concentrarse, algunos se dormían en el almuerzo o en el intercambio e incluso algunos lloraban por cansancio.
Por éstas razones decidimos incorporar la rutina de la
siesta. Cuando llegan del almuerzo ponemos colchones en el piso, almohadones y mantas y se duermes
escuchando “Babies go Beatles.”
En general descansan durante 30 o 40 minutos y una
vez que se despiertan toman la merienda y hacemos
actividades relacionadas a la unidad. Estas semanas
hemos estado trabajando en una unidad llamada
“colores.” Aprendimos canciones, jugamos con el paracaídas y pelotas de colores, decoramos cuadrados,
mezclamos masa de color y buscamos objetos de
diferentes colores dentro de la sala. También leímos

alimentos y la importancia de la comida saludable.
Estamos muy agradecidos a Romina Scardaccione
(mamá de Isabella y Juana) quien es nutricionista
y vino a darnos una charla muy interesante sobre
“snacks saludables para el recreo”.Trajo distintas comidas para ver y comparar y les enseñó a los niños
cuáles eran saludables. Los niños jugaron juegos y
hasta ¡prepararon snacks para el recreo! ¡Esperamos
que a partir de ahora, Year 2 siempre traiga comida
saludable para los recreos!

Santillana Compartir
Todos los cursos de Primaria han comenzado a trabajar con la plataforma de Santillana Compartir. Un
entorno de aprendizaje que permite desarrollar y
gestionar la educación digital entre alumnos, familia
y docentes, a través de internet. Estas últimas semanas, en la sala de informática, los chicos recibieron
el primer entrenamiento necesario para conocer el
funcionamiento básico de la plataforma y navegar
por ella. Se continuará con este adiestramiento asegurando un aprendizaje óptimo.
Les recordamos que, además de recursos digitales
de Santillana y otros subidos por los docentes, se
encuentran los libros digitales para acceder desde
cualquier lugar permitiéndonos alivianar el peso de
las mochilas y simplificar el trabajo de recuperación

Hoy a las 20 hs comienzan los ensayos del St. Hilda’s Community
Choir and Orchestra para el Choral
Concert 2015 que estará dedicado
a “Música del Mundo”. Si todavía
no están anotados pueden hacerlo viniendo directamente al primer
ensayo. ¡Los esperamos!
Orquesta Senior
La orquesta Senior ya está preparando su repertorio
para el Festival de Orquestas Lincoln. “The Final
Countdown”, “La Rejouissance” de los Royal Fireworks
de Handel y Brazil son algunas de las obras que ya
estamos ensayando para ese tradicional evento.
Los alumnos de Primaria vieron la obra de teatro “Clara como el Agua” como cierre de la campaña
de concientización sobre el uso del agua potable.

Interhouse de Cross Country
El miércoles
pasado se llevó a cabo el
Interhouse de
Cross Country
en una jornada en donde
acompañó el
buen tiempo.
Por la mañana corrieron los alumnos de Secundaria
(Año 7, Junior, Intermediate y Senior) defendiendo
los colores de su House. Pudimos observar excelentes carreras, y la gran cantidad de padres presentes
crearon un marco totalmente familiar y afectivo, más
allá del plano competitivo. Por la tarde las carreras
pertenecieron a Primaria: de 13 a 14:30 hs. corrieron
los alumnos de Año 3 y 4, y entre las 14:30 hs. y las
16 hs lo realizaron los alumnos de Año 5 y 6. Quiero agradecer al staff de Educación Física por su
trabajo y dedicación, y obviamente a todo el alumnado por su esfuerzo en sus carreras y entrenamiento
para las mismas. Los Capitanes de House de Secundaria, Games Captains, Head y Vice también colabo-

El sábado 11 de abril jugaremos partidos de Hockey y
Rugby vs. San Marcos de San Isidro (Garín) con Años
4, 5 y 6. Se desarrollará un triangular al que asistirá
también el Colegio St. Gregory’s. Además, se jugará
en San Marcos de San Isidro, Vóley para las siguientes categorías: Años 7, Junior, Intermediate y Senior.
El horario de salida y regreso de micros para ambos
eventos es: salida 8:15 hs. y regreso 12:30 hs.

Los participantes en la categoría Intermediate fueron:

En la categoría Senior, Vicky Gómez y Mariana Strficek

Echavarría para St. Paul’s. Nos impacto la calidad de los
discursos, no sólo en cuanto al contenido, sino por la
forma en que fueron pronunciados. Elegir a los ganadores fue una tarea difícil.
Los jueces, el Sr. David Spick, la Sra. Patricia Shepherd,
Miss Inés Blanco y el Sr. Federico Balsa, coincidieron
finalmente en la elección de los ganadores: en la categoría Intermediate, Isabella Dallasta quedó en primer
lugar, mientras que en la categoría Senior ganó Lucía
Miri Echavarría, quien representará al colegio en la
competencia nacional en la Embajada británica el 22
de abril. ¡Felicitamos a ambas y le deseamos a Lucía lo
mejor!
En conjunto, St. Paul´s resultó el House vencedor, seguido por St. John’s y luego St. Peter’s.
Como docentes, nos sentimos orgullosos de que personas tan jóvenes puedan expresar ideas tan profundas e
interesantes con confianza y determinación ¡Felicitaciones a todos los que tomaron parte de esta competencia!
Nos gustaría remarcar además la excelente participación de aquellos alumnos que se animaron a hacer
preguntas a los competidores. Agradecemos especialmente a Franco Luciano por su rol como Maestro de
Ceremonias, Juan Manuel Fernandes por cronometrar
los discursos, y a Mateo Mirenna y Paz De Godoy por
sacar fotos en el evento. También agradecemos a los
Capitanes de cada House Lucía Rodríguez Ribas (St.
Paul’s), Nicholas Kon (St. Peter’s) and Félix Becker (St.
John’s) por su duro trabajo para formar los equipos
de oradores, y a los jueces por su valiosísima contribución. Finalmente, ¡muchas gracias Harold O’Malley,

Dear St. Hilda’s

Thank you to all the parents
who attended the Easter
Ceremony. I trust that you
were all able to relax during the Easter break and
spend time with friends and
family. In this difficult economic climate that we are
all facing, one of the key elements that will help us
through is the concept of community and facing
the challenges with each other’s support and love.
It is not an easy time but we must all look to make
that extra effort to build meaningful relationships
and strive to keep our community positive and
forward looking. To this end, next week we will
hold our traditional Friendship Week during which
our students and staff will participate in a wide
range of activities that aim to build positive friendships and constructive relationships. The activities have been arranged under the auspices of the
EOE team but involve all our students and staff at
various times and places during the week with the
hope that we will take the concepts and ideas into
the future weeks and make our community ever
stronger.
As part of our commitment to developing our
students as global citizens, we offer several opportunities for exchanges and tours. One of our
2014 graduate students, Valentina Dallasta is currently in Memphis, Tennessee on a 4 month school
exchange experience arranged through the English
Speaking Union organisation. In return, St Hilda’s
have been asked to host a student from the USA
in August, September and October. The request
is that we arrange families with whom he stays
for a period of time and experiences family life in
Argentina as well as attending school and other
events. The young man who has been selected
speaks fluent Spanish and is an excellent person
who has gone through a rigorous selection process to ensure his suitability for this experience. If
you and your family can help us with this project
with hosting him for 2 - 4 weeks, then I would be
happy to share details with you and begin the
introduction process so he is not a complete stranger when he arrives.

it has been decided to make the changeover date
Monday May 4 ie after the Autumn exeat. This timing is also intended to allow you time to arrange
for the items of uniform etc. Of course students
are permitted to wear jerseys and uniform jackets
if there is a cold snap between now and May 4 but
I look forward to seeing all our students in full winter uniform after the break.
Finally, I would like to congratulate all the participants in the cross country competition on Wednesday. These races are a test of character and endurance and I was delighted to see so many of
our students giving their best in the event. Also,
I really appreciate the support of so many parents
and community members at these events as well
as the efforts of the PE department to continually
improve the event’s ambience. Special congratulations to the winners and commendations to all
who participated.

We are always thinking of activities and ways to
help our students feel happy in order to help them
learn more. We still have lots of things to do!

3-year-olds -PM shift
Slowly but surely, the 3 y.o. children are adapting to the afternoon shift. From the beginning we
have been placing special emphasis on daily routines, listening and social skills. We noticed that
many were finding it hard to concentrate; some
fell asleep during lunch or Circle Time and some
of them even cried because they were tired. This
is why we decided to start with “nap time.” When
they come back from lunch we place mattresses on
the floor, cushions, blankets and they fall asleep
while listening to the soft tune of “Babies go Beatles.”
They generally rest for about 30 or 40 minutes and
once they wake up, they are ready to have a snack
and work on activities related to the unit. These
past weeks we have been working on “colours.”
We learnt songs, played with the parachute and
coloured balls, decorated squares, mixed coloured
dough and looked for different coloured objects in
In Year 2 we are beginning to learn about food and
the importance of healthy eating.
We are very grateful to Romina Scardaccione
(Isabella and Juana Pandolfini’s mother), who is
a nutritionist and gave us an interesting talk on
“healthy snacks”. She brought all sorts of different
foods for us to see and compare and taught the
children which ones were the healthy ones. The
children played games and even prepared food for
the break! We hope that, from now on, Year 2 will
always bring healthy snacks for break!

“Santillana Compartir”
All Primary forms have been working with the
Santillana Compartir Platform, a Learning Management System which allows for the development
of digital education among students, families and
teachers, through the Internet. Over the past few
weeks, at the Computer Lab, our students have
been receiving the necessary training to get to
know the basic functions of the platform and to
surf through it. This training will continue in order
to ensure optimum learning.
Apart from the Santillana digital resources and
those uploaded by their teachers, there are also
digital books available which can be accessed
from any PC, helping to reduce the overall weight
of the students’ backpacks and simplifying the task

pm. This year we will be producing “Music of the World”. If
you haven’t signed up yet, you

Senior Orchestra
The senior orchestra is already preparing the repertoire for the Lincoln Orchestra Festival. “The
Final Countdown”, “The Rejouissance” of the Royal
Fireworks by Handel and “Brazil” are some of the
pieces we are currently rehearsing for this traditional event.

Cross Country Interhouse
Accompanied by good
weather, the
Cross Country
Interhouse
was held this
past Wednesday. Secondary students
(Year 7, Junior, Intermediate and Senior) competed
in the morning doing their very best to defend
the colours of their House. We were able to see
excellent races, and the large number of parents
present gave the event an informal and intense
setting, aside from the competition itself. Primary
races took place in the afternoon: Years 3 and 4
competed from 1 to 2.30 pm, and from 2.30 to 4
pm it was Years 5 and 6 students’ turn.
I would like to thank the P. E. staff for their work
and dedication, and all the students for their effort
during training and on the day of the competition.

On Saturday April 11, Years 4, 5 and 6 will be playing Hockey and Rugby matches against St. Mark’s
(San Isidro). As it’s a triangular competition, St.
Gregory’s College will also participate. Furthermore, Volley will be played against St. Mark’s in
the following categories: Years 7, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Buses leave at 8:15 am and return and 12:30 pm for both events.

In the Senior category, Vicky Gómez and Mariana
Strficek competed for St. Peter’s, Rosario Brau and
Agustina Annes for St. John’s and Camille Peterson
and Lucía Miri Echavarría for St. Paul’s. The quality of
all the speeches was truly amazing, both in content
and delivery and to choose a winner was a difficult job.
The judges, Mr. David Spick, Mrs. Patricia Shepherd,
Miss Inés Blanco and Mr. Federico Balsa came to a
final agreement on the winners: in the Intermediate
category, the winner is Isabella Dallasta and Lucía
Miri Echavarría is our Senior champion. Lucía will be
representing the school at the national competition to
be held at the British Embassy on 22nd April. We congratulate both and wish Lucía the very best!
Overall, St. Paul’s resulted the winning House, followed by St. John’s and then St. Peter’s.
As teachers, we feel proud that such young people
can express profound and interesting ideas with confidence and determination. Congratulations to all the
participants!
We would also like to highlight the excellent participation of those students who asked questions to the
speakers.
Special thanks go to Franco Luciano for his role as
Master of Ceremony, Juan Manuel Fernandes for
being time-keeper and Mateo Mirenna and Paz De
Godoy for taking photographs at the event. We also
thank House Captains Lucía Rodríguez Ribas (St.
Paul’s), Nicholas Kon (St. Peter’s) and Felix Becker (St.
John’s) for their hard work to get their teams ready
for the contest. We are also grateful to the judges
for their invaluable contribution, and to Mr. Harold
O’Malley, who patiently prepared the scoring scheme
and taught us how to use it.
