esde sus inicios, hace seis lustros, Air Europa ha ido creciendo y evolucionando de forma
constante. Para nosotros es un
motivo de verdadero orgullo,
pero queremos más. Queremos

nuevos retos que nos permitan seguir
creciendo y evolucionando.
Estamos inmersos en un proceso de
cambio, en un plan ambicioso y de largo
recorrido con el que pretendemos destacar en máximas como eﬁciencia, calidad
o modernidad. Por ello nos hemos planteado apasionantes retos que van desde
la adquisición de 22 aviones del nuevo
Boeing 787 Dreamliner, la aeronave más
soﬁsticada y ambiciosa del mercado, a la
apertura de nuevas rutas entre Europa y
Latinoamérica, pasando por la ampliación y mejora constante de nuestros servicios y prestaciones, entre otros.
Queremos llevar la experiencia de volar a

Loi Krathong en Tailandia

DEL PAÍS EN LA LUNA LLENA DE NOVIEMBRE. /

OF THAILAND FOR THE FULL MOON OF NOVEMBER.
S
e trata de hacer un
círculo con familiares
o amigos, encender la
llama de una linterna
de papel (khome),
realizar una oración
o pedir un deseo y dejar que
la linterna ascienda y eleve al
cielo la plegaria y la petición. El
famoso Divali hindú tiene en
Tailandia una versión conocida
como Loi Krathong o festival de
las luces. Se celebra durante la
luna llena del duodécimo mes
lunar (el 25 de noviembre) y
es un acontecimiento en todo
el país. La mejor versión de
la ﬁesta, la más concurrida y
hermosa, tiene lugar en Chiang
Mai, al norte. Los participantes,
después de haber echado a
navegar al río Ping unos cuencos
hechos con hojas de banano
en los que depositan ﬂores,
plantas, lamparillas o barritas
de incienso, se reúnen con sus
familiares y amigos y encienden
sus khome. Decenas de miles
de ellos, en un espectáculo
hipnótico y subyugante, tapizan
el cielo como una bandada de
luciérnagas que llevase en sus

alas sus oraciones, sus peticiones
y el anhelo de que se cumplan.

and wish to heaven. The famous
Hindu Divali have in Thailand a
version known as Loi Krathong

The festival’s best event, the
biggest and most beautiful, takes
place in Chang Mai to the north.
First, participants toss bowls
made of banana leaf to ﬂoat
on the River Ping. The bowls
contain ﬂowers, plants, lights,
and incense sticks. Families
and friends then get together
and light their khome. Tens of
thousands of them, in a hypnotic
and captivating spectacle, cover
the sky like a swarm of ﬁreﬂies
carrying on their wings the
wishes and the yearning for
them to come true.

de los diseñadores actuales. Pero
Vivienne Westwood no es una mujer
al uso: no se considera una fashion
victim, aunque sí una activista de
ella; pero también es una ﬁrme defensora de los derechos humanos,
una luchadora contra el cambio
climático y una convencida de que
la cultura puede salvar a la humanidad. Y la cultura, para esta mujer
de 74 años, comienza en Londres, la
cuna del punk y de su historia personal. Y por ella la acompañamos.

«Él es todavía más alto que yo, y un poco más
gordito. Por lo demás, somos idénticos». Dice,
sonriendo, Mario Vaquerizo del Frankestein al
que presta su voz en Hotel Transilvania 2. «Me
encantan esos monstruos aparentemente malos
que luego tienen un corazón enorme», añade,
antes de mostrar la maleta que ha traído para
la sesión de fotos. «Bonita, ¿verdad?». Y mucho
más colorida que la ropa que suele llevar en
ella. «Yo soy sota, caballo y rey: ¡siempre llevo
lo mismo! Mis pantalones de pitillo negros, mis
camisetas, mi kit de higiene. Y si hace frío, mis
botas de après ski de pelo». Pese a sus muchos
kilómetros recorridos, conﬁesa que viajar le
sigue poniendo nervioso. «No tanto por perder
el avión, que me ha ocurrido un par de veces
y me da mucha rabia; sino por si me he dejado
algo importante. Aunque al ﬁnal hay pocas
cosas imprescindibles. Lo único, ¡el pasaporte!».

«He’s a bit taller than me, and a little fatter.
But apart from that we’re identical,» says a
smiling Mario Vaquerizo of Frankenstein: whose
voice he dubs for the Spanish version of Hotel
Transylvania 2. «I love these monsters that
appear to be bad, but then have an enormous
heart,» he adds, before showing us the bag he’s
brought with him for a photo shoot. «Nice, isn’t
it?» And much more colorful than clothes he
carries within it. «I’m very straightforward: I
always carry the same! My skinny black trousers,
my t-shirts, my toiletries kit. And if it’s cold,
my fur après ski boots.» Despite so many air
miles he confesses that travelling still makes
him nervous. «Not that I miss the ﬂight, which
has happened a few times and makes me really
angry; but that I have forgotten something
important. Although in the end there are few
essentials. Just the passport!»

había acogido una muestra tan grande de arte español
del Siglo de Oro. La exposición Maestros españoles del
Hermitage. El mundo de El Greco, Ribera, Zurbarán, Velázquez, Murillo y Goya reúne, desde el 28 de noviembre
en el Museo Hermitage de Ámsterdam, un centenar de
obras maestras de la pintura española de los siglos XVI
y XVII y, también, de artistas posteriores inﬂuenciados
por estos pesos pesados, como Ribalta, Zuloaga, Iriarte,
Luca Giordano o Picasso. Los visitantes podrán ver más

There’s a historical angle to this: never before has Holland
hosted such a large exhibition of Spanish Golden Age
art. The exhibition Spanish Masters from the Hermitage. The World of El Greco, Ribera, Zurbarán, Velázquez,
Murillo and Goya brings together, from November 28 at
the Hermitage Amsterdam, one hundred masterpieces of Spanish painting in the 16th and 17th centuries as
well as later artists inﬂuenced but these heavyweights
like Ribalta, Zuloaga, Iriarte, Luca Giordano, and Picasso. Visitors can see more than 60 oil paintings, graphic
works and artifacts. Among the most iconic pieces to be

que es también esa mujer luchadora que reﬂeja en sus canciones. A los 33 años, cuenta ya con 18 sobre las tablas, más
de dos millones de discos vendidos y récords como llenar
cuatro noches el Palacio de los Deportes de Madrid.
¿Cómo deﬁniría su nuevo disco?
Es más optimista. Aunque cuente historias dramáticas no acaba cayendo
en un dramatismo absoluto. Es también muy dinámico. He estado un año
sin subirme al escenario y todas esas ganas de actuar las he traspasado al
disco. Está grabado en estudio, pero se puede sentir la energía del directo.
¿Por qué se titula Caos?
Me parecía la forma más sincera de deﬁnir el proceso de este disco. Con el
nivel de exigencia que tenía, no me gustaba nada, era un desastre, un caos,
hasta que una varita te toca el cerebro y todo se organiza.
En la canción Caos, dice que usted es un caos sentimental.
Es un caos en positivo, no se trata de altibajos ni de algo que afecta a los temas de pareja o de familia. Hablo de todos esos sentimientos que se mezclan y producen sensaciones caóticas. Me pasa a mí y a mucha más gente.
En el disco está muy presente su afán por vivir con intensidad.
Es necesario vivir con intensidad porque nunca sabes lo que puede pasar
mañana. Las cosas hay que sentirlas, masticarlas, saborearlas, aunque con
una intensidad controlada para que no se te vayan de las manos.
¿Se identiﬁca con esas mujeres sufridoras de muchas de sus canciones?
Todos tenemos una parte dramática y vivimos situaciones que te llegan al
alma y te destrozan. He tenido momentos de sufrimiento absoluto, y los

when someone tells her how much they like her
music. Although she admits that she’s also the
strong woman that is reﬂected in her songs. At 33
years old, she’s been in the charts for 18 of them,

How would you deﬁne your new album?
It’s more optimistic. Although there are dramatic
stories in there, it doesn’t descend into complete
drama. It’s also very dynamic. I haven’t been on
stage in a year and I’ve directed all these urges to
perform into the album. It’s recorded in a studio
but you can feel the live energy.
Why the title Caos (Chaos)?
It seemed to me the most sincere way of deﬁning
the process of this album. With the demands I
have of myself, I didn’t like it at all. It was a disaster, chaos, until something clicks in your head
and everything falls into place.
In the song Caos, you say it’s a sentimental chaos.
It’s a positive chaos; it’s not about ups and downs
or something that aﬀects things like partner and
family. I’m talking about all those feelings that
get mixed up and produce chaotic sensations. It
happens to me a lot, and to lots more people.
On this album your love of living life intensely is
very present.
You have to live with intensity because you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow. You
have to feel things, nibble on them, savor them,
although with a controlled intensity that doesn’t
get out of hand.
Do you identify with these suffering women in
many of your songs?
We all have a dramatic side and we live through
situations that touch your soul and destroy you.
I’ve had moments of absolute suﬀering, and I appreciate them because thanks to them I can perform these songs. But I’ve also had moments of

Would you be capable of singing something you
didn’t feel?
I’ve never been capable of that. When I recorded
my ﬁrst album at 15, there were songs that I had
to sing one way or the other, and I couldn’t. You
have to feel the songs and they have to reach the
pit of your stomach.
When does the tour start?
I hope that we’re on the road by April or May because I can’t take much more without going on
stage.
Do you miss concerts that much?
This has been the ﬁrst time I’ve stopped in 18
years. I’ve done tours and albums back to back
and it’s where I feel most comfortable. I needed

Hija del cantaor Pepe de Lucía y sobrina de Paco de
Lucía, a Malú nunca le dio por el ﬂamenco. «Su arte

No he sido capaz jamás. Cuando grabé mi primer disco, a los 15 años, había
canciones que tenía que cantar sí o sí, y no podía. Las canciones hay que
sentirlas y tienen que llenarte el estómago.
¿Cuándo empieza la gira?
Espero que para abril o mayo estemos en la carretera porque no aguanto
más sin subirme al escenario.

Why is performing live so addictive?
It’s like this person that you can’t live without,
and sometimes you can’t live with them, but you
know that they’re always going to be there because they’re the person you love most and also
the one you can come to hate the most.
Yes, because it’s also a tough life…
Concerts are a constant sacriﬁce: you have to look
after your voice, not speak, not do anything else…
But then it makes up for it. After two or three
hours on the stage, you come oﬀ and say “Yes,
this is it… I’ve made everything worthwhile.”
After selling out four nights at the Palacio de Deportes in Madrid, what goals have you got left?
No, no, no, I don’t want to think about that
[laughs]. For me it was a dream come true, or it
never even became a dream because I couldn’t
even have imagined it. It’s not good for my mental health to think about what might happen. Everything went so well at that time and I’m happy
enough with that.
Of everything that you have achieved, what are
you most proud of?
To have reached this far, safe and healthy, bearing in mind that I started at 15 and I’m a woman.
It may sound like victimhood but that’s the way
it is because us women start at -10 in credibility
Is there anything you miss, having started so soon?
Horse riding. I was really passionate about it but
I can’t risk doing myself damage and leaving a
whole load people in the lurch. My excessive responsibility and my demands have deprived me
of many things but there’s nothing I miss.

De todo lo que ha conseguido, ¿qué le hace sentir más orgullosa?
Haber llegado sana y salva hasta aquí teniendo en cuenta que empecé
con 15 años y siendo mujer. Puede sonar victimista, pero es así porque
las mujeres arrancamos con un menos diez de credibilidad.
¿No hay nada que eche de menos por haber empezado tan pronto?
Montar a caballo. Me apasionaba, pero no puedo hacerme daño y dejar
tirada a un montón de gente. Mi exceso de responsabilidad y exigencia
es lo que me ha privado de muchas cosas. Pero no echo nada de menos.
¿No le tienta la idea de relajarse un poco y vivir más?
Me tienta cuando aparece el bloqueo. Me he planteado bajar el ritmo,
pero luego no puedo. Cuando ha pasado una semana vuelvo a ponerme
en marcha. El cerebro no para y funciono mejor cuando estoy haciendo
galas de 48 horas seguidas sin dormir que cuando tengo días tranquilos.
¿Qué le gusta hacer en ese poco tiempo libre que tiene?
Yo me siento muy cómoda en mi cuevita, mi casa, me apasiona ver cinco
o seis películas seguidas y que se haga de día [risas]. Para mí, no haber
dormido pero tener el cerebro despejado me descansa y me llena más
que otras cosas. También me encanta estar con mis perros, pasear por el
campo, verme con mi gente, estar tranquila con el chándal y el moño…
¿Le agobia la fama?
No, son muchos años ya… No se me hace agobiante, aunque hay días que
no tienes ganas ni humor para estar expuesta. Pero también aprendes a
tragarte eso y a tener una actitud de ‘no pasa nada, todo está perfecto’.
¿Puede pasear tranquila por la calle o le paran mil veces?
Pasear tranquila lo hago por el campo [risas].
Do you never feel like relaxing a little and living
more?
It tempts me when I get blocked. I’ve thought about
slowing the rhythm but then I can’t. After a week I
have to get back to work. My brain doesn’t stop and
I function better when I’m doing shows every 48
hours without sleeping than when I have quiet days.
What do you like to do in the little free time that
you have?
I feel comfortable in my little cave, my house, I love
seeing ﬁve or six ﬁlms in a row and seeing the sun
come up [laughs]. For me, not sleeping but having my head clear relaxes me and fulﬁlls me more
than other things. I also love spending time with my
dogs, walking in the countryside, seeing people, relaxing in a tracksuit with my hair in a bun.
Does fame bother you?
No, it’s been many years… I don’t ﬁnd it bothersome, although there are days when I don’t feel like
being exposed. But you also learn to swallow that
and have an attitude that ‘it’s alright, everything is
perfect.’
Can you walk the streets quietly or do people stop
you all the time?
For quiet walks I go to the country! [laughs].

Por su parte, los ediﬁcios se esconden entre las copas
de los árboles. Y huele a verde. Y se oye el trinar de los
pájaros. Sin embargo, es imposible olvidar que estás en
Nueva York. Esa es la verdadera magia de Central Park.

the birds singing. It’s impossible to forget, however, that you’re in New York. This is the true magic of Central Park. Scene of a thousand movies and
TV shows, every corner of the park has been seen on
screen at some stage. However, this sense of famil-

construido en 1872 en sustitución de los muelles de Bethesda
Terrace. La estructura original fue remodelada en 1942 gracias
al ﬁlántropo Carl L. Loeb, del que tomó el nombre. Además

along the pathway known as
The Mall, with its canopy of
yellow and orange elms. The
ﬁrst section is adorned with
sculptures of famous writers and is known as the Literary Mall. To one side extends the green esplanade
of Sheep Meadow, while
set at the end is the Concert
Ground, where open air
concerts are held.
Bethesda Terrace, level with
72nd street is the grand
square and gateway to the
section of the park dominated by The Lake, with its
winding contours, rental boats and myriad trails
along its banks. One of its
narrower sections is straddled by Bow Bridge, the
most photographed bridge
in Central Park. Close by
is another pond, the Conservatory Water, smaller

On its Northern shore are

The northern section of the
park is dominated by the
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, a reservoir
of 43 hectares that in the
past supplied water to the
city and today serves as an
enviable environment for
the many runners along its
banks. There follows a succession of small meadows
and coppices that resemble miniature forests, such
as The Ravine. The Harlem
Meer, the name so-given
for the German immigrants
that lived here before the
park was built, is the last of
the park’s four great lakes.
On its banks can be found
Lasker Rink, another skating rink, and the Conservatory Garden, divided into
three beautiful gardens in
Italian, French and English
styles.
Beyond the last row of tress,
the skyscrapers rise once
more. It takes only a few
steps to return to the hustle
and bustle of the city, but
also to enjoy the museums
adjacent to the park such
as the Museum of Modern
Art, the Natural History
Museum, the Guggenheim
and the Jewish Museum…
and then Manhattan, and
all of New York, an ideal destination any time of
year but that bit extra special in the fall, on either side
of magical gates of Central
Park.

Unos cientos de kilómetros al noreste,
los lisboetas celebraban el día de Todos
los Santos de 1755. Muchos estaban en
misa, otros paseaban por el puerto o junto al Palacio Real. De repente, la tierra comenzó a temblar con gran intensidad. Se
abrieron grietas en el suelo, las paredes se

northeast, the people of Lisbon were celebrating All Saints Day 1755. Many were

the ground began to tremble intensely.
Great cracks opened up in the ground, the
walls collapsed and roofs began to cave
in. And the trembling didn’t stop. Panicked people shouted and sought open
areas, thousands headed for the beaches,
ﬂeeing the crumbling buildings. There
they witnessed a terrifying spectacle: ﬁrst
the sea withdrew, revealing the remains
of cargo and sunken boats. Then, a ﬁrst
20 meter-high wave engulfed the city.
There followed another two, smaller but

«Paraguay, como destino, no defraudará al turista Europeo». Con esa contundencia, la ministra de Turismo de
Paraguay, Marcela Bacigalupo, ha presentado la nueva ruta entre Madrid y
Asunción que Air Europa inaugura el
próximo 16 de diciembre. El enlace estará operado por un Boeing A330-200
con capacidad para 299 pasajeros, 24
de ellos en clase Business, y las salidas
desde Madrid serán los los miércoles y

domingos, y desde Asunción los lunes y
jueves. «Todo el grupo –explica el presidente de Globalia, Juan José Hidalgo- se
va a volcar en dar a conocer Paraguay a
través de diferentes paquetes turísticos,
incluyendo paquetes combinados con
otros países de la región como el norte
argentino o Brasil con Iguazú».
Con esta nueva ruta, la primera directa
entre Europa y Asunción desde que en
febrero de 1994 la extinguida LAP realizó su último vuelo entre la capital paraguaya y
Madrid, los alrededor de
500 pasajeros semanales que llegan a Asunción
podrán hacerlo de forma
directa, sin escalas en
países limítrofes con Paraguay como Argentina o
Brasil. «En realidad esta
conexión no es solo entre
España y Paraguay, sino
entre Europa y Paraguay,
pues Air Europa permite conectar con
toda Europa desde Madrid –asegura
Hidalgo–. E inmediatamente se ha convertido en un éxito porque en el ránking
de reservas de la compañía, esta nueva
ruta ya está más alto que otras rutas de
la compañía».
La capital paraguaya, fundada en 1537
como fuerte militar por el burgalés Juan
de Salazar, es una de las ciudades más
antiguas de Suramérica y la tercera más
segura del subcontinente. Declarada
Capital Mundial de la Amistad por la Paz
en 2012, Asunción recoge la más auténtica tradición y cultura paraguaya, con
hitos turísticos de primera magnitud
como el Palacio de los López, la Casa de
la Independencia, el Cabildo o el Panteón de los Héroes. Motivos más que
suﬁcientes para acercarse y conocerlos.

Bacigalupo, presented the new route
between Madrid and Asunción that Air
Europa is introducing on 16 December.
It will be operated using a Boeing A330200 with capacity for 299 passengers,
24 of them in Business Class, and with
departures from Madrid on Wednesdays and Sundays and from Asunción
on Mondays and Thursdays. As Globalia
President Juan José Hidalgo explained:
«The whole group is focusing its eﬀorts
on raising awareness of Paraguay through a range of tourist packages, including
oﬀers combined with other countries in
the region, such as northern Argentina
or Brazil with Iguazú.»
This new route, the ﬁrst direct link between Europe and Asunción since February 1994 when the now defunct LAP
made its last ﬂight between the Paraguayan capital and Madrid, will enable
the roughly 500 passengers a week who
arrive in Asunción to get there direct,
without having to stop over in neighbouring countries like Argentina or Brazil. Hidalgo says: «This route is actually
not just between Spain and Paraguay but
between Europe and Paraguay, since Air
Europa connects with the whole of Europe from Madrid. And it has been an
immediate success, because it already
ranks higher than other routes in the
company’s list of bookings.»
The capital of Paraguay, founded in 1537
as a military stronghold by Juan de Salazar, from Burgos, is one of the oldest
cities in South America and the third
safest. Declared World Friendship for
Peace Capital in 2012, oﬀers the most
authentic Paraguayan tradition and
culture, with outstanding tourist attractions such as the Palacio de los López,
the Casa de la Independencia Museum,
the Cabildo and the Panteón de los Héroes: more than suﬃcient reasons to pay

Air Europa ha dado un nuevo paso en
su ﬁrme compromiso por la modernización y evolución de la compañía
presentando su nueva imagen con la
que hace visible el inicio del proceso de
cambio.
El nuevo logo de la compañía, que
apuesta por el azul como color identiﬁcativo e incorpora una tipografía más
sencilla y moderna, lucirá de forma
gradual en el fuselaje de los aviones de
Air Europa y en los soportes de comunicación de la compañía, y pretende
actualizar la marca dotándola de mayor
claridad y visibilidad.
«En la actualidad la imagen de una
compañía es vital. Actualizar nuestra
imagen era el paso que teníamos que
dar para ser plenamente coherentes
con el proceso de evolución en el que
estamos inmersos», ha aﬁrmado María José Hidalgo, directora general de
Air Europa.
Para la compañía el cambio de imagen
«no es, en absoluto, una simple operación de maquillaje» sino que, en pala-

El proceso de implantación y aplicación de la nueva imagen en todos

«My family is not a Dépor
one, in fact my father is
a Real Madrid fan. When
I was small, I lived close
to the Riazor stadium and
little by little I got the
bug. I got really hooked
in the era of Bebeto,
Mauro Silva, Donato and
Liaño… the SuperDépor.
Since then, I’m still going,
and even more since I
joined the peña Chamberí
Branquiazul, a Deportivo
supporters’ club based in
Madrid that is very busy
this year organizing trips
to support the team all
over Spain. “The craziest
thing I’ve done following
Depor? Landing in Madrid
after a twelve-hour
transatlantic ﬂight and
jumping into a car for six
hours to get to A Coruña
to see a match. For Dépor
fans, the image that marks
us all is of Djukic missing
that penalty 21 years ago,
depriving us of our ﬁrst
league title. But the date
I have marked on the
calendar is November 21.
That’s the day Celta plays
Deportivo in the Galician
derby; for me that’s more
important than a Depor v
Real Madrid match.»
