El Metro de Madrid PowerPoint lesson, metro map authentic resource activity, and QR code webquest El Metro de Madrid This lesson is designed for any ability level in Spanish. The PowerPoint and activity instructions are in English. The metro map is an authentic resource in Spanish from: http://www.metromadrid.es/es/index.html The webquest is in English, as well as the website: http://gospain.about.com/od/transportation/qt/madridmetro.htm PowerPoint Lesson: Topics covered in this PowerPoint include how to find a metro stop, how to buy a ticket, how to figure out which direction to go, seating and standing room on a metro, “abono” monthly passes, and an ad of the Statue of Liberty peering into a Madrid metro stop, demonstrating that Madrid believes all cities in the world should envy their metro system. The PowerPoint is 11 slides (including title page) with pictures on each slide. Metro Map Activity: You will need to print the PDF of the Madrid metro map, which you can also download from the link provided at the top of the page. I highly recommend printing off a class set of these maps in COLOR and keeping them in sheet protectors, as they can be very difficult to read in black and white. Explain to students how the top left side of the map shows the color and number of each metro line, as well as the start and end stops. Then, show them how they connect with other lines at certain points. It may take 2 or 3 line changes to get to a certain destination! Have students work in partners or individually to complete the worksheet, in which they must figure out the best way to get from one metro stop to another (including some line changes). Webquest Activity: Students may use the QR code by using an iPad or their own smartphones with a barcode scanner app. Students may also do the same assignment with laptops or computers in a lab by typing in the web address. Students will find out additional metro information, as well as look for 5 interesting things to do at 5 different metro stops by following the links.
