FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME—JULY 12, 2015
“Marriage equality?”
On Saturday August 1st 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon let us come together to pray and share about the recent Supreme Court decision to allow
marriage between persons of the same sex. What does the Church teach? How should the parish respond? What are the issues that will come
from this decision? How do we treat persons who are in same-sex relationships with compassion and dignity? I invite you to spend some time
with me in prayer and discernment as well as in sharing. Fr. Jerry
FACILITY USE CHANGES
It has been brought to our attention that the fees and restrictions established for the use of the hall, kitchen and classrooms is
preventing some ministries from using them. This was never the intent. Therefore, effective July 1, 2015 the restrictions regarding
eating in these rooms and fees assessed for the use of them are no longer in effect.
These restrictions and fees were put in place to offset the expenses of repairs, excess cleaning requirements. The removal of them
does not eliminate the need to assess fees when the facility has not been cleaned, trash not removed and damages not repaired by
the user.
Fundraisers where IHM is not the direct recipient of all profits will continue to be charged the usage fees. If you have any
questions concerning this, please contact Margaret Hoover in the parish office (925)-634-4154.
We are all blessed that we can meet and share God’s word in this beautiful place. Please treat it with the care and respect given to
our own homes.
CAMBIOS PARA EL USO DE LOS SALONES DEL ICM
Nos ha llegado a nuestra atención que los honorarios que se pagan para usar los salones de nuestra Iglesia han limitado a muchos
de los ministerios el uso del Salon principal, los otros salones y la cocina. Esto nunca fué nuestra intención; por eso, efectivo el
1 de Julio del 2015 las limitaciones que teniamos de no comer en estos salones y los honorarios que se cobraban para su uso ya no
existirán.
Estas limitaciones y honorarios fueron impuestos para compensar los gastos de reparaciones, y el exceso de limpieza. La
eliminación de cobrar honorarios por uso de salones no limita la necesidad de cobrar honorarios cuando los salones no los dejan
limpios, basura no se ha botado y daños no se han reparado por el grupo que usa estos salones.
Recaudación de fondos donde ICM no es el destinatario directo de los fondos se les continuará a cargar los honorarios que se
cobran ahora. Si Ud. Tiene alguna pregunta sobre esto, por favor pongase en contacto con Margaret Hoover en la oficina de la
parroquia al (925) 634-4154.

I mentioned several times that these articles are not designed to get you to give more money to the Church. However I would like to
think with you about how I learned to tithe. In my first year of college I found my way into the Episcopal Church. How I got there
is another story, but when I started attending services at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Napa, they were talking about an “Every
Member Canvass.” That was “stewardship” in that church, and they were going to come to each member’s home and ask them to
sign a pledge card. The canvass was on a Sunday afternoon, so I waited all afternoon for someone to come by, and no one did. A
teenager, I was not on their radar screen, and they probably didn’t expect me to make a pledge, but I wanted to participate fully in
my faith, so I got a pledge card on my own and signed up. I had a job, and I was making about $50 every two weeks as a delivery
boy for a local drug store. Believe it or not, I was one of the richest kids on the block, able to pay for my own car and gas – you
could get two gallons for a quarter in those days, and I had money to have fun with. I began saving some each pay period, and I
wanted to pledge $5.00 per week. That commitment scared me because it seemed like an awful lot of money, so I scratched out the
5 and wrote 2 on the card, but resolved to give the original $5 if I had it available in my wallet on Sunday. To be continued …

embargo, you quiero pensar con ustedes sobre como yo aprendi a donar. En mi primer año de universidad me encontré yendo a la
Iglesia Episcopal. Como me encontré alli es otra historia, pero cuando empeze atender a los servicios de la Iglesia Episcopal de
Santa Maria en Napa ellos estaban hablando sobre “Solicitud de cada Miembro.” Eso era “administración” en esa iglesia y ellos
iban a casa de cada miembro y pedir que firmarán la tarjeta de compromiso. La solicitud fué un Domingo en la tarde, asi que espere
toda la tarde para que alguien viniera y nadie vino. Como un joven, yo no estaba en la pantalla de su radar y ellos probablemente no
esperaban que yo diera un compromiso pero yo queria plenamente participar en mi fe asi que consegui una tarjeta de compromiso y
la entregue. Yo tenia un trabajo y ganaba como $50 cada dos semanas como un repartidor para una farmacia de la vecindad.
Aunque no lo crean, yo era uno de los niños mas ricos de la cuadra, que podia pagar por mi propio automobil y gasolina—uno podia
comprar dos galones de gasolina por 25 centavos en esos dias y también tenia dinero para divertirme. Yo empeze a guardar un poco
de dinero cada vez que me pagaban y quise comprometerme a donar $5.00 cada semana. Ese compromiso me asusto mucho porque
parecia una cantidad grande de dinero asi que borre 5 y escribi 2 en la tarjeta de compromiso pero resolvi dar la cantidad original de
5 si lo tenia en mi billetera el Domingo. Esto será continuado…. Ora por nosotros Fr. Jerry

Immaculate Heart of Mary Church is due for Safe Environment Training this year. Our training cycle is from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. All
volunteers who participate in any ministry at IHM will need to be trained within this time frame. If any volunteer in your ministry completed
safe environment training online or onsite training class prior to July 1, 2015, they will need to retrain this year. All training is to be completed
online. The diocese will no longer offer onsite training classes, nor will signed policies of expectations be accepted as proof of training. The
training is $8.00 and is good for 3 years. When the person completes the training online, they need to print the certificate of completion, bring it
to the parish office and pay $8.00. New volunteers and employees must train PRIOR to starting their service at IHM. If you have any questions,
