Electronics/Cell Phones on Campus
A message from the School Director, Mrs. Campbell
We made it through our first round of Common Assessments and we are
starting to dig into the results to see where ALL of our Titans are and push
them to GROW big! Thank you for continuing to support your students at
home by providing them with a quiet place to do Homework, ensuring they
get enough sleep, providing them with a healthy breakfast and getting
them to school on time. With the start of the new morning tardy policy this
week, we have already seen the number of daily tardies cut in half. We can
achieve great things when we work together in partnership!
A3 Calendar Update
I want to apologize as we realized there were a few errors in the A3 family
calendar that went home last week. We will update it and post it online
and on our Facebook page. The biggest thing to note is that there is NO
SCHOOL on Friday, November 13th. This is a campus professional
development day.
To ensure your student’s belongings are safe at all times, we urge you to have your
student leave all electronic devices at home. All staff on campus have a school
issued cell phone that a student may use if they need to speak with a parent or
they may report to the front office to use a phone. As stated in the YES Prep handbook, YES Prep Fifth Ward is not responsible for any missing electronic devices,
including cell phones, and we have limited capacity in investigating any report of a
missing electronic device.
If a student must bring a cell phone to school, it needs to be secured in a locked
locker at all times.
Uniforms
With the change in the weather we want to remind everyone of the expectations
with jackets as well as other common uniform violations we are seeing.


YES Prep Lottery is open for 2016-2017!
The YES Prep Lottery opened for the 2016-2017 school year on Monday,
November 2nd. If you have a student that will be entering the 6th grade in
August 2016, please make sure that you are completing a lottery
application online at lottery.yesprep.org. The sibling deadline for the lottery
is February 1st.

Front Office Hours
YES Prep Fifth Ward’s Front Office Hours are 7:30 AM—4:30 PM on
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and our hours are 7:30 AM—
1:30 PM on Wednesdays. Please note that the phones are only answered
during these hours. Uniforms are only sold on Mondays and Wednesdays
before school (7:30 AM—7:45 AM) and after school (4:20 PM—4:30 PM).

Parent Report Card Pickup
Middle School: If your student failed 2 or more classes, we are holding
their report card. All families were contacted to attend a report card night
that was held yesterday, Thursday. If you were unable to attend and your
student still has not received their report card, please reach out to the
appropriate grade level chair. We would like to set up a meeting with your
students teachers and see what we can do to work together and get your
student back on track.

High School: If your Titan failed a class this 6th weeks, they did not
receive their report card today (Friday, November 4th). Student report
cards can be picked up at the High School Parent Institute which will take
place on Saturday, November 7th starting at 9AM. Please remember that
students that fail a course for the semester in high school may need to
attend Spring or Summer Credit Recovery which cost $200 per semester.

Only YES Prep jackets and hoodies can be the outermost layer of the uniform. If a non-YES jacket is worn, a mark will be issued.
Lanyards/IDs – All students must have a lanyard and ID. A mark will be issued if a student does not have both items.
Undershirts – Only black, grey, white, maroon or navy undershirts are allowed. If they are wearing red, green, etc., a mark is issued and they are to
remove the shirt.
Joggers – the pants with elastic at the ankle and waist are not allowed. If a
student is not able to correct this uniform violation, they will need to serve a
detention.

Saturday Morning Science
There is an exciting opportunity available to 8-12th grade students who are interested in
learning more about topics in science and medicine. Weekend lectures and workshops
are conducted on the campus of Baylor College of Medicine on Saturday mornings starting in early January and ending in May. The sessions introduce topics in math and science in a creative and fun way and are taught by physicians, scientists, astronauts, and our
medical and graduate students. The program cost is $20 for the semester, and students

The Titan Cheerleaders and Titanic Steppers are currently fundraising through Yankee
Candle. Products can be bought online and in person (cash only). The group number for

Mom’s Night Out-Zumba
Join us for Mom’s Night Out on November 10 from 5:30-7:00 pm. Experience the moves
of cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha, reggaeton, soca, samba, hip
hop music, axé music and tango while working out with our Zumba instructor! Bring a
towel, tennis shoes, and exercise clothes. First 15 Moms will receive a Spa Package!
ESL (English as a Second Language) and Parenting Classes
ESL and Parenting clases will start in the Spring. Registration will begin in January, 2016.
ACE Winter Showcase
Mark your calendars early! ACE’s Winter Showcase will be on December 15, 2015 from
5:30-7:00pm.
Parent Institute
A message from our Student Support Couselors, Mrs. Padilla and Mrs. Pattillo
College is coming very soon for our High School students! Before you know
it we’ll be packing our Titans up for the first year of college (And crying as
we drive away)! In order to prepare our Titans and their families for college
we will be having a High School Parent Institute on November 7th from
9am – 11am. At this event there will be multiple engaging sessions about
Grades and GPA and what that means for college applications, YES Prep
Fifth Ward High School Culture, How to Support Your Titan at Home,
amongst others! Please put this date on your calendar as we all work
together to start the College going process for our Titans! Our students will
be applying to college before we know it!

#likeagirl Conference 2015
After an incredible conference last year, we are pleased to announce that YES Prep
Fifth Ward will be hosting the 2nd annual #likeagirl Conference on December 4th 5th. Students will receive permission slips for the event on Friday November
6th. The event will cost $10 if you register by November 16th and $15 if you register later than November 16th. Moms or female role models are encouraged to
attend an activity and dinner with us on December 4th. More information about
the event will be included on the permission slip. We hope to see all of our girls
there!

Lo hicimos a través de nuestra primera ronda de evaluaciones comunes y estamos empezando a cavar en los resultados para ver donde TODOS nuestros
Titanes son y empujar a crecer en grande! Gracias por seguir apoyando a sus
estudiantes en el hogar, proporcionándoles un lugar tranquilo para hacer la
tarea, asegurando que duermen lo suficiente, brindándoles un desayuno saludable y llevarlos a la escuela a tiempo. Con el inicio de la nueva política de
tardanza de la mañana de esta semana, ya hemos visto que el número de
llegadas tardes diarias cortados por la mitad. Podemos lograr grandes cosas
cuando trabajamos juntos en sociedad!
A3 Calendario Actualizado
Quiero pedir disculpas como nos dimos cuenta que había un par de errores en
el calendario de la familia A3 que se fueron a casa la semana pasada. Vamos a
actualizar y publicar en línea y en nuestra página de Facebook. Lo más importante a destacar es que no hay escuela el Viernes, 13 de noviembre. Este es un
plantel días de desarrollo profesional.

Lotería de YES Prep está abierta para 2016-2017!
La Lotería de YES Prep abrió para el año escolar 2016 a 2017 este Lunes, 2 de
noviembre. Si usted tiene un estudiante que va a ingresar al sexto grado en
agosto de 2016, por favor asegúrese de que se registre para la lotería sobre
línea en nuestra pagina web www.lottery.yesprep.org. El plazo de hermanos
para la lotería es el 1 de febrero.
Para asegurar las pertenencias de su hijo estén seguros a todo momento, les pedimos que su
estudiante deje todo los dispositivos electrónicos en su hogar. Todo el personal de la escuela
tiene un teléfono celular que su estudiante puede utilizar si necesitan hablar con un padre o
puede reportarse a la oficina principal para usar un teléfono. Como se indica en el manual de YES
Prep, YES Prep Fifth Ward no es responsable de los dispositivos electrónicos que traiga un estudiante, incluyendo teléfonos celulares, y tenemos capacidad limitada para investigar cualquier
reporte de un dispositivo electrónico perdidos.
Si es necesario que un estudiante traiga un teléfono celular a la escuela, tiene que estar en su
casillero con candado en todo momento.
Uniformes
Con el cambio en el clima queremos recordar a todos las expectativas con las chaquetas, así como
otras infracciónes de uniformes común que estamos viendo.
1. Sólo chaquetas y sudaderas con logotipo de YES Prep pueden ser la capa más externa del uniforme. Si se usa una chaqueta que no sea YES Prep se recibirá una marca.
2. Collares/ IDs - Todos los estudiantes deben tener un collar de su respectiva casa y su identificación. Se recibirá una marca si un estudiante no tiene los dos artículos.
3. Camisetas por de Abajo - Sólo camisetas negras, grises, blancas, marrón o azul marino se les
permite. Si están usando rojo, verde, etc., una marca se emite y se tendrán que quitar la camisa.
4. Corredores - los pantalones con elástico en el tobillo y cintura no se permiten. Si un estudiante
no puede corregir esta infracción de uniforme, tendrán que cumplir una detención.

Horario de La Oficina
Horario de La Oficina de YES Prep Fifth Ward es de 7:30 am-4: 30 pm los lunes,
martes, jueves y viernes, y nuestro horario es de 7:30 am-1: 30 pm los miércoles. Tenga en cuenta que los teléfonos sólo son contestadas durante estas
horas. Uniformes sólo se venden los lunes y miércoles antes de la escuela (7:30
am-7: 45 AM) y después de la escuela (4:20-4: 30 PM).
Sábado Mañana Ciencia
Hay una gran oportunidad disponible para los estudiantes 8-12 de grado que estén interesados en
aprender más sobre los temas de la ciencia y la medicina. Conferencias y talleres de fin de semana
se llevan a cabo en el campus de la universidad de Baylor de Medicina en las mañanas de los
sábados a partir de principios de enero y termina en mayo. Las sesiones introducen temas de
matemáticas y ciencias de una manera creativa y divertida, y son impartidas por médicos, científicos, astronautas, y nuestros estudiantes de medicina y de posgrado. El costo del programa es de $
20 para el semestre, y los estudiantes no pueden participar si ya completaron SMS 1 año pasado.

Escuela Secundaria: Si su hijo reprobó 2 o más clases, amos retenido
sus calificaciones. Se estableció contacto con todas las familias a asistir a una
noche de calificaciones que se llevo a cabo ayer, jueves. Si usted no pudo asistir
y su hijo todavía no ha recibido sus calificaciones, por favor acercarse a la
maestra/o del nivel de grado apropiado. Nos gustaría establecer una reunión
con sus estudiantes, maestros y ver lo que podemos hacer para trabajar juntos
y conseguir que su estudiante sea exitoso.

Escuela Preparatoria: Si su Titan reprobo una clase de esta 6ª semana, no
recibieron sus calificaciones hoy. Las calificaciones del estudiante se pueden
recoger en el Instituto de Padres, que se llevara a cabo el Sábado, 07 de noviembre a partir de las 9 am. Por favor, recuerde que los estudiantes que no
logran un curso para el semestre en la escuela preparatoria pueden tener que
asistir a la Recuperación de Créditos de la primavera o verano, que cuesta $200
por semestre.
Recaudación de Fondos
Las Porristas Titán y Titanic Steppers actualmente están recaudando fondos a través de Yankee
Candle. Los productos se pueden comprar en línea y en persona (sólo en efectivo). El número de

Noche de Fiesta para Mamá –Zumba
Únase a nosotros para Noche de Fiesta para Mamá el 10 de noviembre de 5: 30-7: 00 pm. La
experiencia de los movimientos de lCumbia, Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, Flamenco, ChaChaChá,
Reggaeton, Soca, Samba, Hip Hop, Música Axé y Tango mientras que haga ejercicio con nuestro
instructor de Zumba! Traiga una toalla, zapatos tenis y ropa de ejercicio. Primeras 15 mamás
recibirán un paquete de balneario!
Espectáculo de Inviernno de ACE
Marque su calendario temprano! Espectáculo de invierno de ACE será el 15 de diciembre 2015,
desde las 5: 30-7: 00 pm.

Las clases empezarán en la primavera. La inscripción comenzará en enero de 2016.

a nuestros Titanes y sus familias para la universidad vamos a tener un Instituto
de Padres el 07 de noviembre de 9am - 11am. En este evento habrá varias
sesiones de acoplamiento sobre los grados y GPA y lo que significa para las
solicitudes universitarias, cultura de YES Prep Fifth Ward , y cómo apoyar a su
Titán en el hogar, entre otros! Por favor, ponga esta fecha en su calendario
como todos trabajamos juntos para iniciar el proceso que va de la universidad
para nuestros titanes! Nuestros estudiantes aplicaran a la universidad antes de
darnos cuenta!

Después de una conferencia increíble el año pasado, nos complace anunciar que YES Prep Fifth
Ward tendremos la segunda Conferencia anual #likeagirl el 4 al 5 de diciembre . Los estudiantes
recibirán hojas de permiso para el evento el viernes, 6 de noviembre. El evento tendrá un costo
de $ 10 si se inscribe antes del 16 de noviembre y $ 15 si se registra más tardar el 16 de noviembre. Se anima a las mamás o los modelos femeninos asistir a una actividad y cenar con nosotros el
4 de diciembre. Más información sobre el evento será incluida en la hoja de permiso. Esperamos
ver a todas nuestras niñas allí!
