Dear Parish Staff,
Thank you for all the
work you and the parish people
did for the 125th Anniversary
activities this past Sunday. It
was a blessing for me to concelebrate the Mass and reconnect with many friends from my
past there from the time I was
born in 1932 to the time I left in
1950 to join the Congregation
of St. Basil (Basilian Fathers). I
was able to stay overnight Friday night with Fr. Sig
Kowalczyk at his home on Harsens Island. He asked that his
best wishes and blessings to
communicated to the parish
people since he served some 20
years as it’s priest, 14 of which
were as the pastor. Fr. Sig is
very ill and obviously could not
attend the Anniversary Mass.

Dear Parishioners,
Let us join together to
praise and thank the Lord for
His blessing on us and for His
guidance of the successful
events in our parish. The Parish Fall Festival that was held
at St. Hedwig Church and the
125th Anniversary of the
founding of St. Francis D’Assisi celebration that was held at
St. Francis Church were successful by the grace of God
and with great cooperation
from all of you.
I wish to thank the Festival Committee members for
their time, dedication and hard
work. Because of your commitment we had a wonderful
and successful parish fall festival. Let us continue to do this
together every year.
I would like to thank in
a special way the 125th Anniversary Committee. We had
started to talk about the 125th
Anniversary long ago and now
we have had a successful celebration.
Everyone worked
hard and put their heart and
soul into the celebration. We
thank you for your dedication
and service. May God bless
you all and may St. Francis
D’Assisi and St. Hedwig intercede for us always.
This weekend we celebrate World Mission Sunday.
Throughout the world through
this celebration the Church encourages us to become missionaries to spread the Gospel.
We, the PIME (Pontifical Institute of Foreign Missions)
Missionaries, have been working in the Archdiocese of Detroit for many years and for a
few years in particular in our
parish. I would like to request
that all of you remember all the
Missionaries and especially, the
PIME Missionaries so that we
may continue the mission of
Christ throughout the world.

An Evening At The
Movies
Another night of movie
entertainment has been scheduled at the Parish Center
Across from St. Francis
Church on October 18, 2014
after the 4:00 p.m. Mass at St.
Hedwig.
As always admission is
free. Refreshments will be
available for a minimal charge.
The movie entitled “
Heaven Is For Real” will be the
feature film and the evening together promises to be enjoyable.
So come out for an evening with your fellow parishioners. See you at the movies!

Our September dinner
get together was a wonderful
experience. Twenty Five people
came and enjoyed the good food
and each others company at
Evie’s in Mexicantown.
We always love to see
new faces from our parish community and even some who visit
the parish and would like to join
in the fun.

coming together on October 25,
2014 following the Mass at St.
Hedwig. We are all going to
meet at Habib’s Cuisine. It’s

Time To Make
More Pierogi
On November 7th &
8th we will be making kraut
pierogi at St. Francis. As al-
St. Francis D’Assisi-St. Hedwig Parish, Detroit
ways we are in need of volunteers. On Friday November 7th
we will make the kraut filling.
We need people to come help
separate the kraut and shed a
tear or two chopping onions.
On November 8th we
ask scoopers and ball makers to
come in at 8:00 a.m. to get a
head start with kneaders, rollers
and kitchen workers coming in
at 9:00 a.m.. All this will be
done in the hall at St. Francis.
If you have a spare hour
or two either of these two days
please stop by and lend a hand.
Even if you’ve never made
pierogi come down and volunteer. We’ll show you how to do
it. We need YOU so the traditions of our parish can continue.
