OUR COVER IMAGE
Víctor J. Acosta Chaves is a Costa Rican tropical biologist specializing
in the ecology, taxonomy, and conservation of amphibians, reptiles, and
birds. After receiving a degree in biology from the Universidad Nacional
de Costa Rica (UNA), he recently concluded his post-graduate studies
(Master in Science) in herpetology at the Universidad de Costa Rica
(UCR). Víctor currently is involved with research on the herpetofauna
and birds of the country, such as investigating the ecology of critically
endangered species and evaluating the impact of human structures on
vertebrates. In recent years, he has been working as a scientific advisor
and specialized guide for scientists, students, and professional photographers throughout Costa Rica. The cover image of this issue depicts a
male Dactyloa insignis, which Víctor photographed at Sector Pocosol
del Bosque Eterno de los Niños, Provincia de Alajuela, Costa Rica.
