Daniel Bittan, Carico Guaynabo (32) My wife and I had to leave our country, Venezuela, due to the bad economy and shortages of basic needs and high crime. We wanted to have children, but it was impossible to raise children there. Seven months ago we came to Puerto Rico without knowing anybody here. We started working as soon as we arrived. I got a job doing maintenance on boats in Fajardo. It was exhausting, working under the sun all day but I did not care, my objective was to build a better future for my family. My wife started working at Carico in November 2014 and just looking at the kind of money that she was making, I decided to join Carico the same year. Since I joined Carico my life changed completely. I finally achieved financial independence. It was more difficult for us, because we did not have family to help us with referrals, but working nonstop since day one, we are reaching our goals. With Carico, we have improved our lifestyle. All this has been possible thanks to Angel E. Torres who trusted us since the beginning and we feel blessed being part of the Guaynabo office, where the team is a great family and making us feel that we can count on them unconditionally. I was born in Caguas to a very poor family of divorced parents. I got my first job at the age of 11, and was living on my own by the age of 15. In order to make a living I worked at numerous odd jobs, such as landscaping, farming, construction and finally ended up at Subway. After studying and receiving a BA in Marketing at age 17, I was promoted to a management position at Subway. Eventually I left that job for a managerial position at a larger company, but was working 12-hour days for only $650 a month. At this time, my home life was in decline, my marriage was suffering, and I was depressed, which affected my job performance. It ultimately caused me to lose my job. I knew I had to do something, so I decide to seek employment again and this is when I reached the place God had in store for me. I went for an interview with Carico and following the interview I called Luis Cains three times that day checking to see if I had been selected for the job. It was the perfect match! How Carico has changed my life? When I started at Carico I was penniless, I could not afford basic needs like food, clothing for myself or my family. After three months with Carico, I put my finances in order. In the last three months at Carico I earned more than I had earned in six months at my previous job. However, I believe the biggest change has been the change within in me. I see life in a much more positive way. I learned to believe in myself and I've learned that if one dares, one wins. I learned that there are people in life that really care about you without expecting anything in return. I found those people at Carico. Carico has helped develop abilities in me that I never thought I had, and showed me there is a future of prosperity if you work for it. But most important, for the first time I feel that life smiles at me and I can give my children a better future. Thank you for the opportunity and thanks to my leaders who have been my role models. Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs. These names all come to mind when we think of successful people. And even though all three are great examples of success, there are lots of other people who are successful in their own right, although we may not be as familiar with their names. But their habits? Well, that’s a different story. If you want to be one of the greats, if you want to be a big success in life and leave ordinary behind, do these 8 things successful people do, and get ready for the big results that are sure to follow if you do them consistently. 1. They commit to their goals Ellos se comprometen con sus metas When successful people set a goal, nothing gets in their way of achieving it. They commit 100 percent to the outcome, knowing that one difference between successful and unsuccessful people is that the successful ones commit to a goal and don’t stop until they achieve it. 2. They persist until they achieve them Ellos persisten hasta lograrlo Obstacles to success are normal and should be expected. However, you can decide when you commit to success that you’re going to persist no matter what obstacles arise. Go around them, go over them, or push through them, but persist no matter what happens. 3. They take responsibility Ellos asumen responsabilidad Successful people know that they are the masters of their own destiny. You don’t hear them complain about the things that stopped them from success. You won’t hear them make excuses. Instead, they push forward knowing that they are the only thing that will make or break their success. 4. They work hard Ellos trabajan arduamente Have you ever met someone who is super-successful and lazy? Neither have I. The truth is that the road to success is paved with hard work. If you want to achieve great results, you’ll need to wake up early, stay up late and put in your time. ¿Alguna vez has conocido a algún ocioso y además super exitoso? Tampoco yo. 5. Find people who are doing what they want and emulate them Buscan personas que están haciendo lo que ellos quisieran hacer y los imitan A college professor once gave me some of the best advice I ever received. He said, “If you want to be wealthy, hang out with wealthy people. If you want to be funny, hang out with funny people. And if you want to be poor, hang out with poor people.” The truth is that people naturally mimic the behaviors of those around them. Mindset is contagious. So if you want to be a big success in life, spend time with others who are already successful. 6. They believe in themselves and their vision Creen en sí mismos y tienen visión The school of hard knocks isn’t easy, so if you want to achieve big results, you’ve got to believe in yourself. How’s your confidence? Do you believe you can achieve your dreams? In case nobody told you before: you can do whatever you want in life, you just have to first believe it, and then work like mad to get it. 7. They constantly learn Están en aprendizaje constante Successful people believe that learning never ends. This doesn’t mean they’re going to school to get new degrees, although they may. Even without formal education, they’re constantly reading and learning from others around them, perhaps from books, trade magazines or conferences, or from others who are ahead of where they want to be. What have you learned recently that can get you closer to the success you want? If you haven’t picked up a book, trade magazine or listened to CDs that can get you smarter in your field, it’s time to start. 8. They make mistakes and learn from them Cometen errores y aprenden de ellos Successful people aren’t afraid to take risks. Because of their unshakeable confidence, they treat any mistake as a learning opportunity. Think about the last mistake you made. Didn’t make a sale? Reevaluate your sales call and make it better next time. So go take some risks, don’t be afraid of making mistakes, and if you stumble, learn from it so you can be better next time. These are 8 things successful people do. How many of them are you doing today? If not all, or most of them, it’s time to upgrade your behaviors so you can get the success you deserve. “Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.” – Bill Gates "There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction." – Oprah Winfrey "I'm convinced that about half of what separates successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance." – Steve Jobs Dorado 35 people in training!!! Carolina 23 people in training Arecibo 25 people in training If you are only tapping into the income of your own personal sales, when you have a bad sales month your income could be wiped out. But when you recruit and build a solid team you will develop a steady stream of income regardless of your own monthly sales. Think of it this way: Sales generates income now Recruiting builds income forever Piensa de esta forma: Las ventas generan ingresos hoy El recultamiento genera ingresos para siempre Three-steps for finding your next superstar sales rep Tres pasos para encontrar a tu próxima super estrella de las ventas: 1) Search/Buscar Companies that practice continual sales hiring – as opposed to as-needed hiring – do things differently. A salesperson is an asset, not a liability, to your organization. So why are you not always looking for someone better than your best salesperson? If your approach is to recruit top salespeople, they are not always available when you need them. Remember: If you found someone better than your best salesperson today, even if you didn’t specifically have a need for them, you would find a place for them. Recruiting has to be something that is done consistently, not just when you have a need. Entonces, ¿porqué no estás buscando siempre a alguien superior a tu mejor vendedor? 2) Qualify/Calificar It’s very important to understand what qualities you’re looking for and know where to look, so make sure that it’s a consistent plan throughout your organization. Pre-qualifying on the phone is important for a few reasons. Your salespeople will likely be on the phone at least some of the time, so you need to know how they handle themselves on the phone. You can find that out by asking some questions and seeing how they react, getting a feel for tonality and articulation. This will also help you avoid wasting time on an unnecessary meeting. 3) The interview/La entrevista The interview is the most critical step. An effective interviewer sets the stage to get the candidate to act and respond in the same manner he or she would in front of a prospect. To separate the high achievers from the ineffective salespeople, you need to stay away from the “so tell me about yourself approach.” Get the candidate through a tough selling situation right away and see how they handle themselves. For example, it’s important to push the candidate back some. Put them in a situation they’ll be in when they try to sell to a prospect. They are not going to have an easy situation every time. They will be getting pressure out in the field, so let’s give them a little pressure in the interview and see if they can stand up to the challenge. Hidden Sources of Indoor Air Pollution Fuentes ocultas de contaminación del aire interior The air inside your home could be making you sick...here's how to evict those major indoor air polluters from you home! Clean up Your Indoor Air/Limpie el aire interior Smokestacks and tailpipes are obvious air-quality annihilators, but your main exposure to asthma-triggering, headache-creating air pollution is likely coming from right inside your own home! Major culprits like radon and cigarette smoke are probably already on your radar, but how about your showerhead and cookware? The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that indoor air pollution can be up to eight times worse inside than outside. Luckily, there are easy changes you can make to clear the air and potentially eliminate indoor air pollutants that have been linked to not only asthma attacks, but dizzy spells, obesity, and even worse, cancer. Steamy Showers / Duchas de vapor You may already filter your drinking water, but what about your shower water? President Obama's Cancer Panel recommended that installing both drinking and shower water filters could be one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself from developing cancer. You can absorb 100 times more chlorine in a 10minute shower than you do drinking a gallon of the same water. Without a filter and ventilation, that toxic chlorine becomes airborne. Cozy Carpeting/ Alfombrado Carpeting may feel nice under your feet, but it's a bad choice in terms of protecting indoor air quality because the fibers trap dust and dander, triggering asthma and allergy attacks. Some carpets also off-gas VOCs, while carpet padding could be treated with hormonedisrupting flame-retardant chemicals. Convenience Cookware/ Equipo de cocina Nonstick cookware is a savior when it comes to quick cleanups after a meal, but polytetrafluoroethylene, the chemical used in nonstick cookware, can pollute the air in your home. (So much so that it is known to kill pet birds.) Equally a bummer, nonstick cookware has been linked to thyroid disease, obesity, and ADHD in people. Your "Clean" House/ Su casa “limpia” Mixing common household cleaners such as ammonia and bleach creates a dangerous level of lung-damaging ozone inside your house. Even if you don't accidentally create science-experiment combinations while cleaning, cleaners at the store often contain those same harmful asthma-triggering, hormone-disrupting perfumes and fragrances found in candles, air fresheners, and soap and shampoo products. 1. It’s not what you say; it’s what your customer believes. You can have the best sales presentation in the world, but if the customer doesn’t believe your proposition, then you don’t have a chance. Take the time to engage with the customer. Ask them questions and let them tell you their wants and needs. Yes, many times they don’t know what their needs are and you’ll have to guide them, but in the end, if they don’t believe it, you don’t have a chance. 2. Never go into a sales call not knowing how you’re going to close the sale. If you don’t know where you’re going, then how will you get there? The most common part left out of any presentation is the close. Plan for it upfront by developing the strategy and your course of action. This does not mean you’re only going to use one type of closing technique. On the contrary, it means you’re going to be ready to close using several different techniques based on what the customer tells you. 3. Have a dedicated time set aside either daily or weekly to do your prospecting. Too many salespeople find themselves spending far too much time doing everything else but prospecting. If you don’t schedule it and hold yourself accountable, you won’t do it. 4. Believe in yourself and what you’re doing to help your customers. Why should anyone buy anything from anybody if they are buying from someone who doesn’t even believe in it? There’s a reason why confident salespeople are more successful. 5. Show up and show up on time. Vé a tus citas y llega a tiempo. More sales are lost because the salesperson either failed to show or failed to follow through. It’s a sad comment that something that basic and easy could determine more sales, but it’s a fact. This is the main reason when companies are looking for salespeople, they should find candidates who have a proven track record of self-discipline.
