PRESENTATION:
Today´s commodity markets are highly sensitive to technological innovation. Accumulated
know-how, quality information and new technologies will determine the future of the business.
In this context, the relationship between innovation and intellectual property has become ever
stronger.
Countries with long-standing mining traditions have put themselves at the forefront of
technological advancement, particularly on exploration and exploitation methods. Indeed, as the
world’s largest producer and exporter of cooper, Chile has witness the industry´s ability to
overcome technical, environmental and financial challenges, through innovation.
The event is proposed as a high level seminar, targeting industry operators and domestic
regulators both in the fields of mining and intellectual property rights.

OBJECTIVES:
1. Provide an instance for comparative analysis an experience sharing between private and
public operators.
2. Highlight the role of intellectual property in the promotion and protection of innovation.
3. Address the phenomenon of innovation and transfer of technology in the context of the
mining business.
4. Provide an overview of Chile’s mining industry, particularly on innovation
developments, as well as of other interested countries.
