D.O.P.s Direct Object Pronouns Why are we learning this? Using D.O.P.s will let you write shorter (and different types of) sentences in Spanish. What is a Direct Object? Direct objects (D.O.s) answer the question who? or what? in relation to what the subject of the sentence is doing. The direct object pronoun (D.O.P.) takes the place of a direct object, so you can produce a shorter, simpler sentence. Yo lo necesito = I need it. Yo te quiero = I love you. No los quiero = I don’t want them. La estudias todos los días? = Do you study it every day? What are the Direct Object Pronouns in Spanish? Singular me = _____me___ te = _you (familiar)__ lo = _you (form.), him, it (m)__ la = _you (form.), her, it (f) Plural nos _us__ os = _you (form.) pl, España__ los = _them (m), you form. (D.O.P. = lo) = __lo necesito.__________ o Literally, “It I need” Translate to Spanish: We want them. (D.O.P. = las) = __Las quiero___________________ Literally, “Them we want” Yes, if you look at the literal translations you’re talking like Yoda. Or, the D.O.P. can also be “smooshed” to the back of the infinitive of a verb. o Translate to Spanish: I need to study it.
