FIFTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
Gospel’s Reflection
“Let us go to nearby towns to preach there,” said Jesus.
How spontaneously he evangelized! Of course, Jesus did
not find evangelization easy when it meant carrying the
cross and then dying on it. His passover to third-day glory,
however, gave cruel crucifixion new significance. Risen life
gives direction to all growth. Whether we call our lack of
growth “sin,” “demon,” “disease” or “death,” Jesus shows
us how to pass through it and into newness. How well he
preaches the good news in our town!

Vayamos a los pueblos cercanos a predicar, dijo Jesús. Él
predicaba espontáneamente. Por supuesto que no era fácil para
Jesús evangelizar, pues eso significaba cargar la cruz y morir en
ella. Pero el paso de la muerte a la gloria dio un nuevo
significado a la crueldad de la crucifixión. La vida resucitada da
nueva dirección al crecimiento. Podemos llamar a nuestra falta
de crecimiento “pecado”, “demonio” o “enfermedad”, pero eso
no importa; lo importante es que Jesús nos enseña cómo vencer
eso y llegar a lo nuevo. ¡Qué bien predica Jesús en nuestro
pueblo!

Group Wedding - Marriage Convalidation
Saturday, May 23, 2015
St. Charles Borromeo would like to invite couples who are civilly
married or cohabiting to have their Marriage Blessed. You will
participate in a Marriage Convalidation Ceremony in the Roman
Catholic Church. Convalidation comes from a Latin word meaning “to
firm up” or “to strengthen.” A Convalidation is not merely a renewal
of vows made previously but is a new act of consent by each spouse.
This Convalidation of Marriage may be celebrated within Mass. Your
marriage then becomes sacramental and it will be recorded in the
Sacramental book of the Church. Our Group Wedding is right around
the corner. We have very little time for interviews. This celebration
will take place on May 23, 2015 at 2:00 pm. For more information,

Bodas Comunitarias - Convalidación de Matrimonio
Sábado, 23 de mayo, 2015
San Carlos Borromeo invita a las parejas que viven en unión libre o
que están casadas por lo civil y que les gustaría que su matrimonio sea
bendecido. Participarán en una ceremonia de Convalidación
Matrimonial en la Iglesia Católica Romana. Convalidación proviene
de una palabra en latín que significa "afirmar” o "fortalecer". La
Convalidación no es simplemente una renovación de votos realizados
anteriormente, sino es un nuevo acto de consentimiento de cada uno de
los cónyuges. Esta convalidación de Matrimonio es celebrada en la
Misa. Su matrimonio se convertirá en sacramento y será registrado en
el libro de Sacramentos de la Iglesia. Se aproxima la celebración de
nuestras Bodas Comunitarias. Tenemos muy poco tiempo para hacer
las entrevistas. Esta Celebración se llevara a cabo el 23 de Mayo, 2015

National Marriage Week 2015:
February 7-14.
Marriage is an intimate, lifelong partnership in
which husbands and wives give and receive love
unselfishly. The sexual relationship expresses their
married love and shows what it means to become
“one body” (Genesis 2:24) and “one flesh” (Mark
10:8, Matthew 19:6). The sexual union is meant to
express the full meaning of a couple’s love, its
power to bind them together “the unitive aspect of
marriage “and “its openness to new life” the
procreative aspect. The Church believes that God
has established an inseparable bond between the
unitive and procreative aspects of marriage. The
couple has promised to give themselves to each
other, and this mutual self-giving includes the gift of
their fertility. This means that each sexual act in a
marriage needs to be open to the possibility of
conceiving a child. “Thus, artificial contraception is
contrary to God’s will for marriage because it
separates the act of conception from sexual union”
(U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults, p. 409).

53. Just as the commandment “Thou shalt not kill” sets a clear limit in
order to safeguard the value of human life, today we also have to say
“thou shalt not” to an economy of exclusion and inequality. Such an
economy kills. How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly
homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market
loses two points? This is a case of exclusion. Can we continue to stand by
when food is thrown away while people are starving? This is a case of
inequality. Today everything comes under the laws of competition and the
survival of the fittest, where the powerful feed upon the powerless. As a
consequence, masses of people find themselves excluded and
marginalized: without work, without possibilities, without any means of
escape. Human beings are themselves considered consumer goods to be
used and then discarded. We have created a “throw away” culture which
is now spreading. It is no longer simply about exploitation and
oppression, but something new. Exclusion ultimately has to do with what
it means to be a part of the society in which we live; those excluded are no
longer society’s underside or its fringes or its disenfranchised – they are
no longer even a part of it. The excluded are not the “exploited” but the
outcast, the “leftovers”.
