John Del Escritorio de Padre Juan Recently a lady asked me if we go to visit hospitals. I, of course, told her that we do visit the hospitals. There are some issues about hospital visitation that need to be addressed from time to time. The first important issue is that hospitals do not tell parishes if a parishioner is in the hospital. Many years ago, hospitals, especially Catholic hospitals, notified the parish if a parishioner was in the hospital. That is no longer the case. Due to privacy laws (often referred to as HIPPA laws) no hospital can tell anyone about the medical information of a patient. Therefore, they no longer inform us if a person is in the hospital. What then can be done? If someone wants a visit from the parish, please call the parish directly to request a visit. Also, if you want a visit from me, call me directly. I remember when a lady told me, “Father, why didn’t you visit me in the hospital?” I did not know she was in the hospital because no one called me to inform me. I won’t know you are there if you don’t call me and tell me, giving me the hospital and room information and the correct name of the patient. I and the Ministers of Care are happy to visit, just let us know, so we can visit in a timely manner. Thanks. Just a few months ago, Pope Francis wrote an encyclical letter called, Laudato Si, which calls us to take better care of our planet. He says that our planet is becoming an “immense pile of filth,” which is some very strong language. We have so focused on technology and ourselves that we have damaged our planet. I am going to give a presentation on the letter and then we can have some discussion afterwards. The event will take place in English on Wednesday, Sept. 9 in the Hospitality Room, beginning at 7:00pm. The event will take place in Spanish on Sept. 16 in the Worship Space, beginning at 7:00pm. I hope you are able to make it. I think this is a very important topic that concerns us all. Please read the document before you come. You may go to www.vatican.va to read the document without cost in either English or Spanish. Please mark your calendars for the Parish Life Conference on Saturday, October 17 at St. Francis de Sales parish in Lake Zurich, IL. This event is for all parish ministers who want a renewal/retreat day for their ministry. Talks will be offered in English, Spanish and Polish. More information is to come. . Let us enter the courts of the house of the Lord and sing to the glory of God. Give praise with blast of trumpet, with noble sound of the horn. With the clash of the clanging cymbal, give glory to the Lord! Give praise with lyre and timbrel, with lute and sound of the harp. With the dance of the flute and oboe, give glory to the Lord! For all my life I will sing to you, O ever faithful God. You fill the heavens with wondrous lights, the earth sings out your glory. Put not your trust in those who rule, the mighty of this earth. Their breath shall fail, their power die, their plans shall fade and vanish. You give your sight to all the blind, you raise up those bent low. Your heart is near to the broken ones, you welcome in the stranger. I will bless the Lord at all times, with praise ever in my mouth. Let my soul glory in the Lord, who will hear the cry of the poor. . Let the lowly hear and be glad: the Lord listens to their pleas; And to hearts broken God is near, who will hear the cry of the poor. Ev’ry spirit crushed God will save; will be ransom for their lives; Will be safe shelter for their fears, and will hear the cry of the poor. We proclaim your greatness, O God, your praise ever in our mouth; Ev’ry face brightened in your light, for you hear the cry of the poor. Freedom is coming and healing is near. And I shall be with you in laughter and pain To stand in the wind and walk in the reign, To walk in the reign. In days to come the desert shall bloom, Rivers will run there, soon, very soon. So what shall we fear, though death do its worst? The word of our God is the last shall be first, The last shall be first. Comfort each other, for pain soon must end. A day comes when lion and lamb shall be friends. The sightless shall see then, the speechless sing songs. The name of our God is the righter of wrongs, The righter of wrongs. It was more than common custom. Hospitality showed respect for the visitor/guest. It demonstrated the humility of the host as well. A general meeting is being called to gather all current ushers/greeters and anyone who “helps out” during the mass, but we’re also looking for new people who would like to join this very important ministry! If you would like more information, please contact Rosi Viquez at the parish office 847‐882‐7580 or [email protected] Many of you attended a special Liturgical Gathering with Fr. John in August of 2014, and many suggestions were brought forward that we have implemented. Some Ministers of Communion were unable to attend that meeting, so we are asking that you please come to this meeting to review those changes that will help to unify the procedures especially due to the Mass schedule change. Newly certified Eucharistic Ministers are urged to attend as well since you are being added to the new schedule (Sept.‐ Nov.)…Thank you! Luevano 10 Outreach Opción Misionera 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time "He took him off by himself away from the crowd. He put his fin‐ ger into the man's ears and, spitting, touched his tongue." Jesus could have healed this deaf man another way. He could have spoken a powerful word or, for that matter, just silently willed that the man's health be restored. It wasn't uncommon for Jesus to cure people simply by a quick touch. But instead, Jesus chose to heal him in this unique way. He made it a private event, one that involved an unusual kind of physical ritual. Clearly, this was not for Jesus' sake. And since it was away from the crowd, it wasn't for their sake either. This particular healing was for this particular man. For whatever reason, Jesus knew that this man needed these signs‐‐ touching his ears and putting saliva on his tongue‐‐in order to be freed of his inability to hear and speak well. Jesus knows what we need. His care for each and every one of us is not some standardized package of generic charity. He loves us all as unique individuals and understands us. He sees our weaknesses and knows our strengths. He offers himself to us as an intimate friend, not an unfamiliar acquaintance. When we come to him with our hopes, our fears, our desires and needs, he hears and answers us ... in the way he knows is best. It might seem odd. It might be unexpected or different from what we have seen him do for others. But we need to trust, even when we are desperate for "healing," that Jesus does care, that he does listen, and that he does act on our behalf. Let us have confidence in today's Old Testament proclamation from Isaiah: "Thus says the LORD: Say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God ... he comes to save you."
