A very special thank you to everyone who came out and supported our Chili Cook Off & Christmas Market last weekend. Congratulations Cook Off Winners 1st-Robin Hopper- Team Hopper 2nd Gerdes - Beg & Keg 3rd-Dion Garcia-Big Texas Chili Creed 4th-Karl Paulissen-Dark Horse 2 Dear parish family, 3rd Sunday of Advent C We light now the rose colored candle in the Advent Wreath symbolizing that this Advent Sunday is quite different from the normally somber Advent Sundays. It is a “rejoice Sunday” taking into account that on every 3rd Sunday of Advent, St. Paul’s exhortation in second reading is always read, “Rejoice in the Lord.. He is near!” We have a lot of things to rejoice if we look forward to his incarnate presence. This presence is "near" when our desire for him no longer remains in our thoughts but indeed comes with efforts for him to be incarnate in us and with us. Thant means he is "in flesh" in our actions, in the manner we live, the way we behave, in the way we deal with one another. When this happens, so then we have plenty to rejoice about. This is the rejoicing we are looking forward. Not the rejoicing the world knows, which is superficial. It is the rejoicing of the spirit, when truly the Lord who is the prince of peace reside in our own thoughts, hearts, translated into the way we live. Nowadays the secular society is telling us “happy holidays!” But we, as a people of faith, must be reminded that we are not just approaching “holidays” rather we are preparing for the “holy” days. It is entirely different when our anticipation and our rejoicing in the holidays includes dimension of what is holy. That is when we redirect our focus on dimension of God’s grace. In other words, to focus on things more spiritual rather than purely material, to focus on things more essential rather than things that are superficial, to focus on things that matters to God rather than things that does not really matter at all. Today, John the Baptist, appeared once again in the gospel and exhorts us to eliminate from our hearts whatever impedes us from welcoming Jesus in our hearts. In other words, what he was preaching to those in his time and to us in our time and situation is simply directed to a change of heart and mind in order to welcome the presence of the Lord in our midst. Precisely that is what Advent is all about – that we prepare our hearts and souls for the grace of God. Advent is not about an anticipation of holidays rather of the Holy Day when the Lord celebrates his birthday again in our hearts. Blessings to you and have a good week. Fr. Padre Tony ST. Quinceañera’s at St. Mary’s A Quinceañera marks your daughter’s transition from childhood to your woman adulthood. We know that this is important to your family. But too often, families put too much importance on a Quinceañera and neglect the sacraments and religious education of their child. St. Mary’s will not entertain the possibility of a Quinceañera if there is no indication that a family is taking their faith seriously. We are not doing this to be cruel or exclusionary-we are insisting on this for the sake of the salvation of souls. 6 Mass Today @ 4PM This session is part of a four-part series about Mary, the Mother of God. In this session, teens will look to Mary’s example of obedience and fidelity through a better understanding of the Immaculate Conception and the Annunciation. The teens will create a “Yes List’ that encourages them to reflect on all the things in their lives that they say “yes” to. The Proclaim will look at the importance of Mary’s “yes’ and the Break will give the teens the opportunity to consider if they mirror Mary’s fiat in their own lives. The night concludes with a meditative rosary and challenges the teens to offer every area of their lives to the Lord.
