Psalm — The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy (Psalm 126). Second Reading — It was not Christ who glorified himself, but rather the one who said to him: You are my son: this day I have begotten you (Hebrews 5:1-6). Gospel — Immediately the blind man received his sight and followed Jesus on the way (Mark 10:46-52). October/November Music Schedule 5p-Contemporary Ensemble; 7:30a-Classic Ensemble 9:30a-Adult Choir 11:30a-1st & 3rd Sundays-Organ & Cantor; 2nd & 4th Sundays-Bell Choir A letter from our pastor, Father Matt/Una carta de nuestro párroco, Padre Mateo Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, "Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you," said the disciples to the blind man, Bartimaeus, in this Sunday’s Gospel. So it can be said to each and every one of us, “Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you.” He is calling us. He knows us. He loves us, and He calls us to come to Him, to meet Him and know Him and enter into a friendship with Him that will last forever in heaven and give us peace and hope. It is not always easy to respond with our whole hearts. We are not perfect. We have weaknesses. We sin. So we hear the words, “Take courage.” Are we courageous enough to acknowledge our sin, confront it, and bring it before the Lord, or do we ignore it or become complacent with it or allow it to keep us within an arm’s distance from Christ? Are we courageous enough to approach Christ and receive His mercy through the sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession, which Jesus Himself gave the Apostles on Easter Sunday when He said, “Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained” (Jn. 20:22b-23)? Christ is the great high priest who works through the priests of His Church. He can sympathize with you. He desires to show you mercy and compassion. He wants to heal us and lift us up in the midst of life’s difficulties and challenges. The best way to experience the mercy, grace, and compassion of Christ on the journey of life is through confession, by which the Lord speaks His words of mercy and absolution through the priest and lifts us up within the family of God, the Church. We are in this together. We walk together in faith. Let us together take courage and get up. So I would like to encourage you to make use of the sacrament of Reconciliation, especially if it has been a while. After all, Jesus is calling you. In Christ, Fr. No somos perfectos. Tenemos debilidades. Pecamos. En Cristo, Padre Mateo ACT OF CONTRITION My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Saviour Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In His Name, my God, have mercy. Amen. Sacrificial Giving We are ever grateful for your loving generosity and sharing in the Ministries of Serving the Lord here at St. John the Baptist. Parish Collections Please help us meet our weekly needs of $25,619. Abram tithed (giving at least 10%) as a symbol that he depended totally on God. Moses said tithing was holy and an act of worship. Yes, even Jesus talked about money because money is a necessary part of our lives and it is also a necessary part of the viability of the church. Our tithe is merely a way to recognize that. Each family should prayerfully discern their own situation and understand that tithing is God’s plan for supporting the church and the poor. Annual Appeal-Over the last sev- eral weeks, St John the Baptist has conducted a planned Parish Offering program. This annual appeal’s purpose is to increase offertory donations by parishioners while encouraging individual reflection on the abundance of blessings given by our generous God. When one reflects about the abundance of God-given blessings, sharing a portion of ones financial resources is a natural response. We hope you will find this to be the case as well. About 10 days ago, we mailed a pledge card with a return envelope. Please take a moment to complete it and mail it to the parish office or put it in Sunday’s collection basket. Thank you for sharing your blessings. llamamiento Anual Durante varias semanas pasadas, San Juan Bautista ha conducido una parroquia programa de oferta. GOOD HEARING Faith is the ear of the soul. —St. Clement of Alexandria Children’s Stewardship Corner Here are just a few of the “offerings” to God from the youths of St. John’s: Nicholas, Sabrina, Sydney, Kailey, Courtney, Alyssa and Norby all donated money to the church this week. Talents from the youth were helping preschoolers, practicing voting, helping mom after her surgery, putting laundry away and cleaning. Gifts from the youth's envelopes for October 11, 2015 were: $7.50. A Stewardship Moment After healing the blind man in today’s Gospel Jesus told him to go, to be on his way. But the man decided to follow Jesus. Being a disciple of Jesus is a choice. The stewardship way of life likewise involves a choice, in fact many choices. We choose to be grateful, we choose to live generously, and we choose to trust that God will always provide for our needs. These are three choices central to the stewardship way of life. What choices will we make this week that give witness to our decision to follow Christ? True Blindness Bartimaeus caused a stir. Normally he sat by the side of the road being a “good blind beggar.” But one day Jesus passed nearby. Bartimaeus jumped up and called out to Jesus. We can imagine him turning toward the direction of the commotion and noise. Bartimaeus probably had his arms outstretched as he shouted out to the son of David. The people who knew him were embarrassed by his outburst. They tried to hush him up and get him to sit back down by the roadside. Their actions spoke volumes: “Bartimaeus, you’re not fit for Jesus.” But it was okay for them and other “sighted” people to follow Jesus. In today’s readings, we learn that true blindness is not a condition of our eyes but of our hearts. ~Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Santa’s Helpers Needed!
