THE LORD OF LIFE
EL SEÑOR DE LA VIDA
At this bountiful time of year, our Sunday
readings teem with life and abundance. Both the
first reading, from the book of Wisdom, and the
Gospel passage from Mark assure us that God did
not make death or even will us to be ill. Illness and
death entered the world through the presence of
evil, the Wisdom author tells us. Mark’s stories of
Jesus healing a hemorrhaging woman and
resuscitating a dead little girl make it clear that
Jesus is from God. As the Son of God he does not
will that anyone suffer illness or death. In the face
of such power, the second reading, from Paul’s
Second Letter to the Corinthians, provides a stark
contrast. Jesus, who could raise the dead to new life,
“though he was rich, for your sake he became
poor” (2 Corinthians 8:9). Our gift of new life from
Christ demands our response in charity
En este tiempo tan fecundo del año nuestras
lecturas dominicales rebosan con vida y
abundancia. Tanto la primera lectura, del libro de
la Sabiduría, como la tercera del Evangelio de
san Marcos nos aseguran que Dios no creó la
muerte, ni quiere que suframos de ninguna
enfermedad. Fue por la envidia del diablo que la
muerte entró al mundo, según nos dice el Sabio.
Y lo que san Marcos nos cuenta sobre la curación
de la hemorroisa y cómo revivió la hija de Jairo
nos muestran claramente que Jesús viene de
Dios. Como Hijo de Dios, Jesús no quiere que
nadie sufra enfermedad ni muerte. Pero en el
contexto de tanto poder, la segunda lectura, de la
segunda carta de san Pablo a los corintios, nos
presenta un fuerte contraste. Jesús, que puede
levantar a los muertos a una nueva vida, “siendo
rico se hizo pobre por ustedes” (2 Corintios 8:9).
Así pues, la nueva vida que recibimos como
regalo de Cristo exige una respuesta: nuestra
caridad.

ADULT CONFIRMATION
Adult Confirmation is for those adults who are 18
years or older. These adults have already been
Baptized and some have already
received communion. We prepare
these adults with the basic
teaching of our Church so that they
have a good understanding of the
Catholic Church and the Sacrament of
Confirmation which empowers these
Catholics to fulfill the teaching of Jesus which we
find in the Bible.
We begin these sessions in January 2016
and will meet twice a month on a Tuesday evening
from 7 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. in the meeting room at
Sacred Heart School.
When we complete the classes, we will offer a
retreat day for each participant and their Sponsor.
We schedule the Sacrament of Reconciliation for all
to be Confirmed as well as those who have not yet
received their First communion.
You will receive a letter and a calendar with
the dates of our meetings and further information in
October 2015.
We welcome you and look forward to meeting with
you twice a month.

MASS AT CALVARY CEMETERY
Everyone is invited to participate in a bilingual mass
celebrated
at 5:00pm every first Wednesday of the month
@ Calvary cemetery.
Those who passed away the previous month will be
remember at this mass.
Knights of Columbus council 1792 will be having a
100th anniversary dinner dance on Saturday
July 18th. The celebration will be held at O’Riley Hall
Sacred Heart School. It will be combination steak
and chicken dinner with all the trimmings raffles
included with the ticket. Music will be provided by the
local popular band Shiloh.
Door open at 5:00pm, dinner served at 5:30 and
dancing from 6:30 to 10:30pm.
No host bar wine & beer.
Tickets $35.00 in advance. Pickup at the pastoral
center.

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU!!
The Blessing & Commissioning of our Altar Servers
went very well, thanks to Fr. Rudy and Fr. Robby. I to
thank the Slater Family for offering to host the picnic at
"Casa de Fruta" for the Altar Servers. I also want to
extend a big thanks to Sean Haggett and Rosy Lopez
for all the hard work they do, year-in and year-out.
I especially want to thank Ellen Emma for assisting me
in putting together the medals and making sure
the picnic went well. God bless all our Altar Servers for
their faithful dedication.
