Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Jesus knows that the Pharisees were seeking to entrap him and he does not allow it. Government has a role to play, but God’s role is always more central and important. A question that arises from this Gospel is: Do we live in a way that reflects the primacy of God in our lives? Do our lives show God’s values regarding sharing our gifts and resources in the world? Do the poor have a place of primacy in our consciousness, as they do for God? What is one thing we can do this week to let the poor have a privileged place in our life and consciousness? This ministry is composed of 7 members. At the end of this calendar year, the terms of 4 members will be ending. Three members will remain until the end of 2015. Please begin to pray about who would be good candidates for these 4 positions. On Thursday, Nov. 6th, at 7pm in the church, we will have our discernment. It is not an election as such, but a prayerful discernment led by a team from the diocese. It is my hope that we will have ‘at least’ 8 persons willing to submit their names for the discernment process. Prayerfully consider whether you or someone you know would be a good candidate. All candidates must be at least 18 years of age, active in the parish and registered for at least one year. We need people who have a love for the parish and a concern for all aspects of parish life. For those interested in being part of the council, we ask that they visit with one of our council members or with Father Kirby for more information before putting their name in for discernment. Your prayers for this process are deeply appreciated. The Pastoral council met on Wednesday October 8th, 2014, 7:00-8:30pm. Six council members & Fr. Kirby were present. Items discussed were the start of Couples for Christ, a new ministry at Santa Cruz. Upcoming discernment process to replace outgoing Pastoral Council members, will take place Nov. 6th. Traffic/parking control for Sunday morning Masses including the possibility of changing Sunday morning Mass times. Festival results update, new building construction update. For more detailed information, please see the bulletin board in the church narthex. SANTA CRUZ CATHOLIC SCHOOL/ESCUELA CATOLICA News from the Principal’s Desk On Tuesday, 15 fifth graders along with a teacher and two chaperones left to go to Camp Kappe, the School of Environmental Education in Plantersville, TX. Camp Kappe is run by the Archdiocese of GalvestonHouston, and is a fully accredited school. Each year, fifth graders from the Archdiocese and surrounding dioceses spend four days experiencing the outdoors while brainstorming on how to save our global world and make the world a better place for future generations. It is an experience the students never forget. On Thursday, we had six classes attend the Zach Theater to see A Year with Frog and Toad. The Frog and Toad series are a part of our reading series, Superkids. It was a wonderful play that helped bring to life these storybook characters. Don’t forget our Casino Night on Saturday, Oct. 25th. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. There will be great prizes to win and a fun time to be had, especially with the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra among the crowd. It is an excellent opportunity for parishioners to renew their faith and their sense of belonging within the community of Santa Cruz. CRHP is a process designed to bring members of a parish together in Christ. Just as all of our other commitments need renewal, so does our commitment to Christ if we’re to be faithful followers. CRHP is an effective spiritual renewal that calls together members of the parish to experience personal conversion and Christian community. Come and give yourself a chance to rediscover your relationship with God.
