SAN DAMIANO MEN’S GROUP
DISTRIBUTES FREE MOVIE TICKETS
FREE movie tickets will be distributed next weekend after all
Masses for the movie, “God is not Dead.” The Parish Hall
doors open at 5:30 PM on Friday, October 24th. The movie
will be shown at 6:15 PM. Enjoy FREE popcorn and soda. A
free will offering will be available. What is the movie about?
Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper), a Christian college student,
enrolls in a philosophy class taught by Professor Jeffrey
Radisson (Kevin Sorbo) who, as an atheist, demands that his
students sign a declaration that "God is dead" to get a
passing grade. Josh is the only student in the class who
refuses to sign and is then required by Radisson to debate
the topic with him, with the class members deciding who wins.
AUTOMATIC LIFE SUPPORT
We are still $1,600 short of our $3,200 goal to purchase two
defibrillators. If you wish to donate please identify your check
with DEFIBRILLATOR or visit the Parish Office.
PRAYER CHALICE FOR VOCATIONS
A “traveling” Prayer Chalice began its weekly journey to
parishioner homes nearly three years ago. Volunteers take the
Prayer Chalice at one of the Sunday Masses, bring it home, place
it in a visible location within the home, and pray daily before it with
prayers to promote vocations within the Church. The chalice
must be returned before the following Sunday (before 9:30 AM).
Prayers will accompany the chalice but one may opt to pray other
prayers. Prayer is a beautiful way to keep vocation intentions
strong as our heavenly Father calls to hearts. Contact Loretta
Barnes at 878-1215 if interested in signing up for a particular
week.
PARISH OFFICE CLOSED
MONDAY, OCTOBER 13TH
The Parish Office will be closed, Monday, October 13th in honor
of Columbus Day. The office reopens on Tuesday, October 14th
at 8:30 AM.

DIAPER AND BABY FOOD DRIVE
The San Damiano’s Disciples for Men Group will be

Sunday, October 19th before all Masses. These items
will be shared with the Pregnancy Care Center in Fort
Pierce and CareNet Center in Port St. Lucie. Please

WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH $20,000?
Would you like to win $20,000? John Carroll High School
is once again hosting its popular Mega Drawing this year!
Tickets are on sale for $50 each or 3 for $100. The
drawing is a 50/50 style, with the winner taking half of the
collected proceeds up to $20,000! The winning ticket will
be pulled during halftime of the John Carroll football game
versus First Academy, at approximately 8 PM on
Thursday October 30th. This is the last home game of the
year and the date of the John Carroll Open House! You
need not be present to win, but you will not want to miss
the excitement of having your ticket selected in person!
Mary asks us to pray the rosary often and you can
help by making rosaries with our St. Lucie Rosary
Makers. We meet every Thursday morning from 9 to
11, and will teach you how to make these beautiful
rosaries that are distributed within the parish and
around the world. You will also enjoy the fellowship
of your fellow parishioners in helping Mary by
praying for Jesus' intervention in our world today.
For more information, phone Lee at 344-1481.
Dear Fr. Mark:
“Recognizing the need to provide more financial
assistance than ever before, we have thoughtfully
designed this drawing to raise funds for our tuition
assistance programs. This is an ideal opportunity for the
community to support quality Catholic education on the
Treasure Coast,” remarked Principal Ben Hopper. John
Carroll High School, a non-profit 501(c)3 status school
has students, both Catholic and non-Catholic, from St.
Lucie, Indian River, and Martin counties.
For more
information, please visit www.JohnCarrollHigh.com, visit
our Facebook page, or call 772-464-5200.
Thank you for your donation of Rice and Beans. It is
really appreciated by the Indiantown needy
community. We are trying to help as many families
as we can with the resources available to us. So
many people have had their work hours cut because
of the economic downturn and are on tight budgets.
Your generous support has been a blessing to our
outreach and we are very grateful to you and the
Franciscan Friars with the union of the Parish, St.
Damianos and the Knights of Columbus. Thank you
again for your generous support. We remember all
our benefactors in a daily Mass. Know that you are
in our prayers.

October 5, 2014
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
Recently our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has made the sacramental life of the family a focus of his catecheses and
ministry. During the month of September Pope Francis celebrated the weddings of 20 couples at St. Peter’s Basilica
and also celebrated a special Mass in honor of grandparents and the elderly. His Wednesday audiences have also
focused on the importance of the sacraments in the life of the family, especially keeping Sunday as a day of prayer,
rest and the family. From October 5-19, an extraordinary synod of bishops will meet to address the Pastoral
Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization.
This focus on the family only serves to highlight the very important role that mothers and grandmothers play in
passing on the faith to the next generation. During the month of October the Church honors the Blessed Mother and
all women in a special way. I once again designate October to be Council of Catholic Women Month in the parishes
of the Diocese of Palm Beach. I am truly grateful for the invaluable service that the Palm Beach Diocesan Council of
Catholic Women provides to the parishes, clergy and religious of the Diocese.
Speaking to the youth and the world on his recent visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida (Brazil), Pope Francis
said: "When the Church looks for Jesus, she always knocks at his Mother's door and asks, 'Show us Jesus.' It is from
Mary that the Church learns true discipleship. That is why the Church always goes out on mission in the footsteps of
Mary."
The Diocese of Palm Beach is grateful to the Council of Catholic Women for having the courage to go on mission in
the footsteps of Jesus and Mary, especially by working to enlighten the public about and put an end to Domestic
Violence and Human Trafficking. Through our prayers, our acts of charity and our caring involvement, may we
create an environment of peace and tranquility where these innocent victims may feel welcome and safe.
May God bless you and fill you with His grace and peace and may the Blessed Virgin Mary always intercede for you
and for our Diocese.
With every prayerful wish, I am
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito
Bishop of Palm Beach

PRAYER REQUESTS
26 WEEK CLUB RETURNS
Please pray for the deceased of the parish, especially
Martin Grady and William J. Smith. May their souls and
all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of
God, rest in peace. Please remember in your Masses
and prayers, the sick whose names have been placed
before our altar this week. If possible, try to participate in
one of our Masses to join fellow worshipers in praying for
them.
Back by popular demand, the Council of Catholic
Women is sponsoring our ever popular Twenty-six
Week Club. The cost to join is only $26.00 (the cost of
one $1.00 lottery picket per week) and you could win
$50.00 each week for 24 weeks! On the 13th week, the
prize will be $100.00. On the 26th week, two prizes will
be pulled for $500.00 each. All winning tickets stay in
the drawing for the 26 weeks with 27 chances to win
in all! You may purchase a $26.00 ticket after the
starting date of November 9, 2014, but remember you
will have fewer dates to win. The winners will be
announced in the Church Bulletin and checks will be
mailed to the winners.
A BIG “Thank You”
from Hospice Patients!
Due to your contributions of Hospice linen, the pantry
is now stocked with flat and fitted twin-sized sheets.
They will be given to Hospice patients residing in
homes who are provided a twin hospital bed but lack
linen.
Beginning with Sunday, November 9, 2014, and for
the next 24 weeks, the weekly drawing will take place
on the Rotunda after the 11:30 AM Mass. The final
drawing (26th week) that features two $500.00 prizes
and will take place at our year-end luncheon on
Sunday, May 3, 2014.
TRUNK OR TREAT Halloween Party
Trunk-or-treating, also known as Halloween tailgating,
seems the ideal alternative to house-to- house trick-ortreating. . Where neighbors are many a time strangers,
Halloween tailgating events substitute family-friendly
entertainment for the unwanted risks of what lies
behind each door. And this is exactly the event that will
take place at St. Lucie come Friday, October 31st,
from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in our church parking lot.
Children along with their parents are welcome. We
only ask that no masks or scary costumes be worn.
Please participate by lining your car with others and
opening your trunk that has been decorated with a
Halloween theme. Children will beg for goodies so
please bring treats to share. And bring your cameras
too! This is the perfect opportunity to make memories,
relax and enjoy the evening!
We are counting on your support by joining The 26
Weeks Club. Just fill out the ticket below and return it
with your check or cash (dates belos). You may also
go to the Gift Shop but get your registration in by
Friday, November 7, 2014 for the most chances of
winning! For your convenience we can also accept
payment by credit card in the Gift Shop. It is just that
easy! All revenue will benefit CCW and all their
charitable works, as well as St. Lucie Parish.
Please fill out (PRINT CLEARLY), cut and return the
ticket below with check or cash of $26.00 to the
Church Rotunda after weekend Masses: October
18/19, November 4/5 or bring to the Gift Shop or Parish
Office.

or treat.” Traigan sus
autos decorados con
un
motivo
de
Halloween (la parte
del
“valijero”
o

estilo 50/50. Las entradas están a la venta por $50
cada una, o 3 por $100. El ganador se lleva la mitad de
los fondos recaudados hasta un máximo de $20,000.

Gracias a nuestros estimados parroquianos y
visiten www.JohnCarrollHigh.com, su página de
Facebook, o llamen al 772-464-5200.
AYUDEMOS A NUESTRA
SANTISIMA MADRE
MUCHAS GRACIAS
bendiga!
