2015 Y - Sheldon College

2015 YEARS 4 TO 6 SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Dear Parent
The Sheldon College Years 4 to 6 Swimming Carnival will be held next
Monday, 2 February in the Sheldon College 25 metre pool. This
carnival will take place during the normal College day in place of
regular classes.
Students travelling to and from the College on public transport will be
required to do so in their full College uniform. All other students are
permitted to arrive and leave dressed as described below.
At the Carnival, students are required to wear:
• Their Sheldon College House shirt
• Sheldon College swimwear (except for students in Year 4 who
may wear a plain navy or plain black one piece costume)
• An appropriate, covered hat
• Other optional items in house colours
• Footwear (shoes, sandals or thongs)
• For girls with long hair, either a College swimming cap or a housecoloured swimming cap (available from the Uniform Shop)
Students must also bring:
• Sunscreen (please first apply before leaving home)
• A water bottle
• A towel
• A packed morning tea and lunch, or money to buy food and
drink from the stadium kiosk
Please ensure that all belongings (including hats and House shirts) are
clearly marked with your child’s name as items of clothing and water
bottles often get misplaced at this Carnival.
Upon arrival at the College, students are to attend their Home Room
class as usual, where teachers will mark the roll before walking their
class down to the pool.
Please turn over…
The program for the day will include races in all four strokes. Strong
swimmers wishing to compete for age championships or interested in
selection in the College swimming team should compete in 50 metre
events. All other students will compete in 25 metre events. House
participation swims and other events will be added to the program as
time permits.
As this carnival is chiefly about participation, students are encouraged
to enter as many events as possible. All students are expected to at
least take part in our participation and freestyle events unless they
simply cannot swim, or have a medical reason for not doing so.
(Should this be the case, please send a note along with your child to
excuse them from participating.)
Parents are welcome to attend this carnival but due to space
restrictions in the pool area are requested to please view proceedings
from the balcony above the pool. (Please bring a chair.)
Students selected in the College team will compete at the Primary
District Championships at the Cleveland Pool on Monday, 9 February,
with the exception of those turning 12 this year, who will compete at
the Secondary District Championships at Chandler on 19 February.
