Teach me your ways O Lord/Señor instruyeme en tus sendas
We at Saint Joseph are a worshiping multi-cultural
community, called to share our diverse God-given
gifts, in order to grow in holiness and oneness,
through the celebration of the Eucharist, preaching of
the word, charitable service, and ongoing spiritual
formation and conversion. We are brothers and sisters
in Christ, led by the Holy Spirit, to witness God’s
Good News to all.

VOCATION CORNER
Does God Always Hear Our
Prayers?
We can have the same confidence Jesus had
when He prayed: “Father…I [know] that you
always hear me” (John 11:42). And God not only hears
our prayers; He answers them as well. Nevertheless, His
answer isn’t always the one we’re hoping to hear.
Sometimes we ask for the wrong things—things we
would regret having if He gave them to us. Sometimes
what we want doesn’t fit into the bigger, wiser plan He
has for us and for those around us. Sometimes He’s
allowing us to develop patience or to grow in some other
way.
In any case, we can always pray to God in faith. That
doesn’t mean we try to convince ourselves that everything
we ever ask for, we’ll receive. Instead, it means that we
pray with trust in the Father who listens to our prayers,
confident that He wants what’s best for us; He knows
what’s best for us; and He’s able to give us what’s best
for us. Our prayers should always ask for God’s will.

The church gives us the cross of ashes
on ash Wednesday to show that we
have pledged our selves to walk with
Christ during Lent. The imposition of ashes is to recall to our minds the fact that “we are dust and to
dust we shall return”. The purpose is to symbolize an
eternal commitment and dedication to acts of penance and mortification during the coming 40 days of
Lent.

Gargantas
St. Blaise Day
The blessing of throats couldn’t
come at a better time as we all seem to
be coughing our way through the
winter months. But soon everyone will
have a chance at healing.
On Tuesday, February 3, in honor of
the feast day of St. Blaise, we will hold
the annual blessing to protect people
against and heal them from throat
ailments at our regular 8:05 Mass.
Many of us have fond memories of this ceremony, when
priest or lay minister places two blessed candles joined in
the shape of a cross at each person’s throat and says a
prayer for their health. We hope you can join us for this
special tradition and have your throat blessed for a
healthy year.
La Presentacion del Niño Dios al
Templo
