From the Pastor’s Heart and Desk:
~~~~ On a summer’s day in 1879, an
amateur archeologist named Marcelino
de Satuola went into a cave in Altamira, Spain, looking for prehistoric artifacts. He’d been there several times
before, and hadn’t found much of interest.
But this day, he brought with him his fiveyear-old daughter. The two of them began to
explore the cave. Marcelino was studying the
ground, when he heard his little girl cry out.
“Look, Papa,” she said, “oxen!” He couldn’t
imagine what she was talking about, until he
looked in her direction and saw she was
pointing to the ceiling. There, Marcelino saw
the most incredible images: pictures of animals and people that had been left there over
10,000 years earlier. What his little girl spotted was later hailed as one of the greatest artistic discoveries ever. In the 1920s, Picasso
visited the caves and came away awed. To
this day, thousands visit Altamira every year
to see what many consider to be the very beginnings of art. And it happened because a
five-year-old didn’t look down. She looked
up! She brought to that adventure a sense of
wonder. Just like the Magi, the wise men, in
today’s Gospel reading. They also looked up.
And then looked forward. And then followed.
They discovered something far more valuable
than anything painted on the ceiling of an ancient cave. They followed a star to the Savior
of the world. And what led them there was
more than astronomy. They were led by fascination, moved by wonder. They needed to
find where that star would take them.
~~~~ Many thanks to the Parishioners who
sent cards, gifts, etc. to the Rectory for Christmas. May God reward your generosity.
~~~~ Please mark your calendars for our Parish Mission, beginning January 16 to 20. You
won’t want to miss the messages and music.
JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
December 8, 2015 to November 10, 2016
January 3, 2016
Del Escritorio y Corazón del Pastor:
~~~~ En un dia de verano en 1879, un
no miró hacia abajo.
~~~~ Muchas gracias a los feligreses que enviaron tarjetas, regalos,etc. a la Rectoría para
Navidad. Que Dios les premie su generosidad.
~~~~ Por favor marquen su calendario para
nuestra Misión de la Parroquia, del 16 al 20
de enero. No querrá perderse los mensajes y
la música.
Please mark your calendars…

The Epiphany of the Lord
January 3, 2016
Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem!
Your light has come, the glory of
the Lord shines upon you.
- Isaiah 60:1
FINDING GOD
The splendid Magi, all sparkle and dash and
solemnity, march right up off the pages of Matthew’s
Gospel and into our churches today.
Matthew alone tells us this grand
and seductive story so that we might
see the light and know that the child
these Magi visited is the fulfillment
of prophecy, the king of the world
that stretches to the Magi’s home country and beyond, right down the ages to us.
We too see and understand anew. Like the
Magi, our patron saints for this day, we see in the
newborn child the king of the universe and light of
the world. Like the Magi, we find in ourselves a new
faith and a new life. Like them, we return to our
home by a new route.
We are asked to come away from this festive
season ourselves renewed and awake to the presence
of God among us. We are asked to find God where
God is to be found, to be attentive and surprised and
ready to bow down in adoration and to offer our
gifts.
