FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Parish,
In my article last week I described a plan from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee called
the “2020 Plan,” in which the Archdiocese lays out a new structure of parishes working
together as “clusters” under the guidance of a single pastor. By the year 2020, the vast
majority of parishes will be working under this arrangement. As I mentioned last week,
parishes that are clustered together will not be merged into a single parish, but instead will
maintain their own identity while being served by the same pastor.
By the year 2020, St. Francis de Sales, Lake Geneva will be clustered with St.
Benedict, Fontana, and St. Catherine, Sharon, sharing one pastor and one associate pastor.
This will be a significant change, because currently, St. Francis de Sales and St. Benedict
each has its own priest, and St. Catherine has a parish director. This will result in some
changes for priestly ministry in each of our parishes. These changes will require preparation,
and, hopefully, will be accepted with courage, openness, trust and grace.
Again, I want to reiterate that the sharing of one pastor between the three parishes of our cluster will not mean that
the parishes will merge – they will continue to be three parishes. However, the sharing of one pastor will open the doors
for a mutual sharing in the Church’s mission. The main change will be that of one pastor ministering to three parishes,
but other forms of sharing and collaborating after that will be guided by the Holy Spirit, the Archdiocese, and the parish
staffs, trustees and Pastoral Councils of each of the parishes.
The Pastoral Councils of each parish will play a significant role in the unfolding of the 2020 Plan. The role of the
Pastoral Council is to help the pastor identify goals and provide a vision for the parish. It serves as an advisory group to
the pastor, and obviously the 2020 Plan will call for the wisdom and advice of the Pastoral Council as we move through
this time of transition.
As we move forward into a new model of parish collaboration, we ask that the Holy Spirit help us to inspire us to
share our gifts and to focus on that which unites us in one vision – our Catholic faith.
God’s Blessings,
Fr. Jim Schuerman
respectivos equipos parroquiales, fideicomisarios, y Consejos Pastorales.
Padre Jim Schuerman
