Bishop Vann Coming to OLG
The Most Reverend Kevin Vann, Bishop
of the Diocese of Orange, will be presiding
at a Lenten Stational Mass here at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on
Wednesday, March 18, at 5:00 p.m.
Our modern observance of the stational liturgy traces its
roots back to the practice of the Bishop of Rome celebrating the liturgies of the church year at various churches
throughout the city, a tradition dating back as far as the
late second or early third century. This Stational Mass in
La Habra is one of five Bishop Vann has scheduled
throughout the Diocese of Orange during Lent.
This Mass will replace our normal 5:30 p.m.
weekday Mass. All parishioners are most welcome and,
in fact, encouraged to participate.

Holy Land Hand Crafts
For centuries, Bethlehem’s Christians have
supported their families by carving olive wood
religious art for visiting pilgrims. However, political conflict has limited pilgrims from reaching
Bethlehem and prevents Christians from reaching Jerusalem to sell their art. This weekend,
Holy Land Hand Crafts will be offering handcrafted items
created in the Holy Land. Your purchases will directly
help these struggling Christian families maintain some
stability and remain in their homes.
Early Bulletin Deadlines due to the publisher’s

Catholic Home
Missions
Appeal
The
Catholic
Home
Missions
Appeal will take
place next weekend, March 21/22.
One way that this
Appeal works to
support mission dioceses here at home is by supporting
seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of
seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses,
which educate each seminarian at a cost of $35,000–
$40,000 per year. Your support is needed for these young
men, so that they can return to serve their parishes.
Please strengthen the Church at home by making a
generous gift to next week’s Appeal. Special envelopes
are available in the pews.
Pastoral Services Appeal
2015
Thank you to all who have prayerfully and generously made a pledge or donation in support of all of the important
ministries funded by the Pastoral Services Appeal. Every donation, no matter what the size, is valued and appreciated. If you have not yet done so, you are invited to make a pledge or donation either by dropping your PSA envelope in the collection basket or sending it to the parish office. PSA envelopes and brochures may be obtained at
the back of the church in the brochure holders or at the parish office. Let us work together to do the Lord’s work
through these important ministries!

Eat Healthy. Be Active
LET’S EAT FOR THE HEALTH OF IT! START BY
CHOOSING ONE OR MORE TIPS TO HELP YOU EAT
A GREAT PLATE.
 Eat a variety of seafood. Include
some that are higher in omega3s and lower in mercury, such
as salmon, trout, oysters, Atlantic and Pacific mackerel, herring,
and sardines.
 Keep it lean and flavorful. Try
grilling, broiling, roasting, or baking—they don’t add
extra fat. Avoid breading or frying seafood and
creamy sauces, which add calories and fat. Using
spices or herbs, such as dill, chili powder, paprika, or
cumin, and lemon or lime juice, can add flavor without adding salt.
 Keep seafood on hand. Canned
seafood, such as canned salmon, tuna, or sardines, is quick
and easy to use. Canned white
tuna is higher in omega-3s, but
canned “light” tuna is lower in
mercury.
Reflections from the
Gloria Dei Choir
On this Laetare Sunday, Jerusalem takes on the role of a
comforter, a home where God’s promise resides and to
which His people can look in times of need. Edgar Bainton’s (1880-1956) cleverly-crafted anthem And I Saw a
New Heaven is based on the very end of the Book of
Revelation. John the Evangelist describes the old world,
with all its pain and sorrow, passing away, followed by the
coming of the New Jerusalem prepared, John says (in
some of the most beautiful imagery in the Scriptures), “as
a bride adorned for her husband.”1 We round out today’s
offering with an echo of Jesus’ words to Nicodemus in
two short selections from Sir John Stainer’s (1840-1901)
Passion oratorio The Crucifixion: the recitative And as
Moses lifted up the serpent and the chorus God so loved
the world. Todd Barber sings the bass solo.
