On Wednesday, March 18th, Bishop Strickland will be stopping at
Christ the King as part of his Lenten Pilgrimage Tour of the Diocese
of Tyler. For three weeks, Bishop will visit every parish and mission
in the Diocese in order to pray with and listen to the needs and
concerns of the people. We are very fortunate that he has chosen
Christ the King Parish and Our Lady, Queen of Angels Mission as one
of only a few where he will be able to celebrate Mass with the
community. Bishop invites all parishioners to attend a special bilingual Mass at 6pm (there will be NO 7:30pm Mass that day). At the
conclusion of Mass, Bishop has asked Fr. Dower to make a brief
presentation on the "state of the parish". After this, Bishop Strickland
will open the floor to any questions or concerns which you may wish
to ask him. This is a wonderful opportunity to join the shepherd of our
Diocese in prayer and reflection as we continue are Lenten journey
together. We are all asked to pray the Pilgrim's Prayer below each day
in preparation for Bishop's pastoral visit.

Teach us, O God, to view our life here on earth
as a pilgrim's path to heaven, and give us grace
to tread it courageously in the company of your faithful people.
Help us to set our affections on things above,
not on the passing vanities of this world, and grant as we
journey on in the way of holiness we may bear a good witness
to the Lord, and serve all who need our help
along the way, for the glory of your name. Amen.
Obispo Strickland
Vendrá a Cristo Rey
El miércoles, 18 de marzo el Obispo Strickland se detendrá en Cristo
Rey como parte de su peregrinación cuaresmal en la Diócesis de
Tyler. Por tres semanas, el Obispo visitará cada parroquia y misión de
la Diócesis para rezar y escuchar las necesidades y preocupación de la
gente. Somos muy afortunados de que haya elegido la parroquia de
Cristo Rey y la misión de Nuestra Señora Reina de Los Angeles como
una de las pocas donde celebrará la Misa con la comunidad. El
Obispo invita a todos los feligreses a una Misa bilingue a las 6pm (no
habrá Misa de 7:30pm en ese día). Al terminar la Misa, el Obispo ha
pedido al P. Dower hacer una presentación sobre el "estado de la
parroquia". Después el Obispo Strickland escuchara cualquier
pregunta o preocupación que usted pueda tener. Esta es una
maravillosa oportunidad de unirse al pastor de nuestra Diócesis en
oración y reflexión al continuar juntos nuestro camino cuaresmal. Se
nos pide a todos rezar cada día en preparación a la visita pastoral del
Obispo la oración del peregrino que se encuentra debajo.

Enséñanos, Oh Dios, para ver nuestra vida aquí en este mundo
como un camino de peregrinar hacia el cielo y danos la gracia

no en las cosas pasajeras de este mundo, y concédenos hacer este
viaje en una manera de santidad podemos ser buenos testigos

Christian Initiation
Period of Purification and Enlightenment
In order to inspire in the elect a desire for purification and
redemption by Christ, three scrutinizes are celebrated. The
scrutinies are rites for self searching and repentance to
uncover, and then heal. The second presentation to the elect is
the presentation of the Bible, on Wednesday, March 11 at
6:30pm during class. Please pray for Giovanni Flores,
Joshua Flores, Justin Flores and Clarissa Lopez as they
enter a time of “intense spiritual preparation”.

Quinceañera Retreat
We will have a retreat Saturday, March 28th for all the young
ladies celebrating their quinceañera this year 2015. The retreat is
only for the youth and parents. We ask a donation of $20 per
family.
Tendremos un retiro para todas las jóvenes que tendrán su

purificación y redención de Cristo, se celebran tres

Camino a la Libertad
The Path to Freedom
La mayoría de nosotros, si nos preguntaran “¿Aparece la frase ‘los
Diez Mandamientos’ en la Biblia?” daríamos la respuesta errónea,
pues la respuesta es “no”. “Los diez mandamientos” es una frase
post-bíblica, que se desarrolló junto con una imagen de Dios como
‘policía’ la cual no se encuentra en el pasaje de hoy del libro del
Éxodo. La primera frase es clave: Dios es el que nos sacó de la
esclavitud; cumplir las leyes o mandamientos de Dios es nuestro
camino a la libertad. Los cambistas a quienes Jesús echó del
templo no estaban violando ninguno de los mandamientos, pero
tampoco estaban ayudando a la gente a encontrar el camino hacia
la libertad de Dios cuando llegaban al Templo a rezar. Esta es una
lección de la Cuaresma importante para nosotros. Tenemos que
dejar de preguntarnos si estamos o no violando alguna regla o
reglamento específico, y en cambio examinar nuestra vida para
ver si verdaderamente estamos siguiendo un camino hacia la
libertad de Dios por medio de Cristo.
Most of us, if we were asked “Does the phrase ‘the Ten
Commandments’ appear in the Bible?” would likely get it
wrong, because the answer is “no.” “The Ten Commandments”
is a post-biblical, phrase that developed along with an image of
God as police officer that is not found in today’s passage from
Exodus. The first phrase is the key: God is the one who brings
us out of slavery; following God’s law or commands is our path
to freedom. The moneychangers whom Jesus drove from the
temple were not explicitly breaking any of the commandments,
but neither were they helping people to find God’s path to
freedom as they came to worship at the temple. This is an
important Lenten lesson for us. We need to stop asking
ourselves whether or not we are breaking specific rules or
regulations and instead examine our lives to see if we are truly
following a path to God’s freedom through Christ.
Destroy this temple and
in three days I will raise it up.

El Nuevo Testamento nos asegura que Jesús comprende
nuestra naturaleza humana (Hebreos 2:17-18). Él sabe bien lo
que es ser humano porque, según la doctrina cristiana, siendo
verdaderamente Dios, es humano plena y verdaderamente.
Tanto amó Dios al mundo que tomó totalmente nuestra
condición humana. Según el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica
esto lo hizo para salvarnos del pecado, sanarnos de la
enfermedad/ muerte, mostrarnos su amor, ser nuestro modelo
de santidad y hacernos partícipes de su divinidad.
Participating in Lent, we are engaging in patterns that have
endured across the centuries. From very early times, we have
the sense of accompanying the elect on their journey to the
font. From as long ago as the fourth century, we receive Lent
as forty days to shake the dust from our spirituality and
reorder our conduct. Then, fasting was not seen as a strict
duty, yet it seems it was widely observed. Think of the rules
of politeness and courtesy that everyone agrees on. Fasting
was also seen as a social duty, since food was in short supply
as winter wore on, and the weak and the sick had the first
claim on what remained on hand.
Estamos hechos a imagen y semejanza de Dios, pero el pecado
opaca esta imágen. Como una muestra del amor del Padre, el
Hijo se encarnó por obra del Espíritu Santo en el seno de María
Virgen, para así renovar en nosotros la imágen de Dios y
llevarnos nuevamente a la inocencia original. Dios es Trino y
Uno, tres personas en un sólo Dios. El ser humano también es
trino. Cuerpo, alma y espíritu (1 Tesalonicenses 5:23) forman
una sola persona que es corporal, reflexiva y trascendente. Así
como el Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo trabajan juntos, el cuerpo,
alma y espíritu de la persona buscan colaborar para seguir al
Hijo de Dios que se hizo uno de nosotros.
As a boost to the fasting of the body, the church developed a
richer spiritual fare, including celebration of the Eucharist
every day. This practice began in Rome by the sixth century.
Weekday Mass was only at designated “stations.” The pope
would arrive on horseback at the stational church. In those
days, although the catechumenate was already in eclipse,
there were pre-baptismal activities at the stational Masses: the
giving of the Lord’s Prayer, prayers for the godparents, and
constant references to baptism.
