From the Pastor’s Desk –
Today is the third Sunday of Lent. The first of three
Scrutinies for the Elect will take place at the 1:00 p.m.
Mass today (their names appear on our Bulletin Board).
Please pray for them as they deepen their faith in the
Lord. Daylight Savings Time has returned! (Can spring be
far away?) Although we have “lost” an hour of sleep, we
gain an extra hour of daylight in the evening. Yesterday
(Saturday) was the second of two penance services for
our children preparing for first communion this spring.
Special thanks to Fr. Stephen Valdazo (St. Joan of Arc)
and Fr. Darrell DaCosta (St. Paul the Apostle) who helped
us with this ministry of reconciliation. Let us pray for each
other that our Lenten sacrifices may bear much fruit. May
God bless us all. – Fr. Hoppe.

THE SEASON OF LENT
Each year, the Church invites us to prepare – by prayer
and penance (fast and abstinence) - for the celebration of
the Easter mysteries. Lent is what we call this forty-day
period. Lent began on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 18) and will
end on Holy Thursday (April 2) just before the Mass of the
Lord’s Supper.

Stations of the Cross
Each year, the Church invites us to prepare – by prayer

Corrections
An announcement about the Cenáculo de Oración,
which meets in our parish Church every last Wednesday
of the month at 7:00 p.m., was inadvertently omitted from
last weekend’s Bulletin (in the “This Week in the Parish”
section). The next gathering of the Cenáculo will take
place on Wednesday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. Also, the
names of the donors of the Sanctuary Candle last week
were misidentified. The names should have read Marie
Arnone and Jean Buscarino. Also, there were two
intentions for the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Saturday, Feb. 28 –
Orlando Molinares and Rosa Crisafulli. However, only
the first one was mentioned at the Mass. The intentions
for the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Wednesday, March 4th should
have included “Mr. & Mrs. Mario Vano. We sincerely
regret all these errors.
Church Regulations Regarding
Fast and Abstinence
Abstinence from meat (including chicken) is to be
observed by all Catholics 14 years old and older on Ash
Wednesday and all the Fridays in Lent. Fasting means
limiting oneself to one full meal on a given fast day; two
additional smaller meals are permitted (if necessary to
maintain strength). All Catholics who are 18 years of age
but not yet 59 are obligated to fast on Ash Wednesday
and Good Friday. Eating solid food between meals on fast
days is not permitted. Other acts of mortification, doing
penance (including the Sacrament of Reconciliation), the
corporal and spiritual works of mercy (such as Operation
Rice-Bowl), and prayer are all highly recommended
during Lent.

al principio del mes de abrilla cuota de $100 por
niño.

Hoy es el tercer domingo de Cuaresma. El primero de los
tres Escrutinios para los Elegidos tendrá efecto hoy en la
misa de la 1 de la tarde. Los nombres de ellos figuran en
nuestro tablón de edictos. Rueguen por ellos por favor
según van profundizando en su fe en el Señor. !El cambio
de la hora ha regresado! ¿Faltará mucho tiempo para que
llegue la primavera? Aunque hemos perdido una hora de
sueño, hemos ganado una hora extra de claridad solar al
atardecer. Ayer sábado fue el segundo servicio
penitencial para los niños que se están preparando para
recibir la Comunión en el mes de mayo. Mis
agradecimientos especiales al padre Stephen Valdazo de
Santa Juana de Arco y al padre Darrell DaCosta de San
Pablo Apóstol, quienes nos ayudaron en este ministerio
de reconciliación. Roguemos unos por otros para que
estos sacrificios cuaresmales rindan muchos frutos. Que

La Temporada de Cuaresma
Cada año la Iglesia nos exhorta a prepararnos para la
celebración de los misterios pascuales por medio de la
oración y la penitencia, que incluye el ayuno y la
abstinencia. La Cuaresma es el nombre que le damos al
período de 40 días, que comenzó el Miércoles de
Cenizas, 18 de febrero, y concluirá el Jueves Santo, día 2
de abril, justo antes de comenzar la Misa de la Ultima
Cena.
Reglamentaciones para el ayuno y la abstinencia
La abstinencia de carne, incluyendo el pollo, debe de ser
guardada por todos los católicos, mayores de 14 años, el
Miércoles de Cenizas y todos los viernes de Cuaresma.
El ayunar se refiere a que la persona se limite a comer
una sola comida completa en determinada fecha; se
permiten dos comidas adicionales en pequeñas
porciones si fuera necesario para mantenerse en pie.
Todos los católicos mayores de 18 años, pero menores
de 59, están obligados a ayunar el Miércoles de Cenizas
y Viernes Santo. En los días de ayuno no se permite
ingerir comidas sólidas entre comidas. Durante la
Cuaresma se recomienda llevar a cabo otros actos de
mortificación, como por ejemplo el hacer penitencia,
incluyendo la recepción del sacramento de la
Reconciliación; las obras espirituales y corporales de
misericordia y la entrega a la oración.
Donación de Sangre
Les recuerdo que el Centro de Sangre de Nueva York
estará llevando a cabo un evento para recaudar sangre
en nuestra parroquia el domingo, 19 de abril.
Evento para las vocaciones religiosas a la vida
consagrada
La Academia Católica Ave María y la Parroquia Nuestra
Señora de la Gracia en Howard Beach, Queens, invitan a
un evento para el fomento de vocaciones el domingo, 22
de marzo, de 1 a 3 de la tarde en el auditorio de la
Academia localizado en el 158-20 de la calle 101 de
Howard Beach. Si desea obtener información adicional

COMITE DE EVANGELIZACION

Unas cuantas correcciones
Un anuncio sobre el Cenáculo de Oración, que se reúne
en nuestra parroquia cada ultimo miércoles de mes a las
7 de la noche, fue omitido involuntariamente del boletín
de la semana pasada. La próxima reunión del Cenáculo
tundra efecto el miércoles, 25 de marzo, a las siete.
También los nombres de los donantes de la Vela del
Santuario fueron publicados de forma errónea. Los
nombres deberían ser Marie Arnone y Jean Buscarino.
Además habían dos intenciones para la misa de las 9
a.m. del sábado, 28 de febrero. Estas eran para Orlando
Molinares y Rosa Crisafulli. No obstante solo el primer
nombre fue mencionado en la misa. Las intenciones para
la misa de las 9 de la mañana del miércoles, 4 de marzo,
deberían haber incluido al señor y la señora Mario Vano.
Sinceramente lamentamos todos estos errores.
