“TOGETHER BUILDING THE KINGDOM OF GOD”

You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart (…). You shall love your neighbor as yourself
Today, the Church reminds us of our “attitude before life” («The whole Law and the Prophets are founded on these
two commandments»: Mt 22:40). St. Matthew and St. Mark put these words upon Jesus Christ’s lips, St. Luke ascribes
them to a Pharisee, But, as a dialogue, always. Several times, Jesus Christ would be asked, probably, similar questions.
Jesus Christ replies with the beginning of the Shema: prayer formed by two verses, one from the Deuteronomy and one
from Numbers, which fervent Jews had to say at least twice a day: «Hear O Israel! The Eternal, our God (...)». By reciting
it during their daily chores, they become God conscious, while remembering the most important thing in their lives: To
love God, our Lord, above “everything and everyone” and our neighbor as ourselves. Afterwards, when the Last Supper
is over, and with the example of the washing of the feet, Jesus Christ gives us a “new commandment”: to love each other
as He loves us, with “divine strength” (cf. Jn 14:34-35).
We need decision to practice “de facto” this sweet commandment —which more than a commandment is elation
and capacity— in dealing with others: men and things, work and leisure, spirit and matter, because they all are God’s
creatures.
On the other hand, by being infused with God’s Love, that overfills all our being, we are able to respond to “the
divine contents” of this Love. Merciful God, who not only takes away the sins of the world! (cf. Jn 1:29), but who divinizes us and makes us “participants” (only Jesus Christ is the Son of God by Nature) of the Divine Nature; the Holy Spirit
bears testimony to our human spirit that we are children of God through the Son. St. Josemaria Escriva liked to speak of
“deification”, a word with a certain tradition amongst the Fathers of the Church. For Instance, St. Basil the Great wrote:
«As clear, transparent substances become very bright when sunlight falls on them and shine with a new radiance, so also
souls in whom the Spirit dwells, and who are enlightened by the Spirit, become spiritual themselves and a source of grace
for others (…) and we enter into eternal happiness and abide in God. Through the Spirit we acquire a likeness to God;

Franciscan Order of St. Croix, invites you to come to the Franciscan House,

“JUNTOS CONSTRUYENDO EL REINO DE DIOS”
Amarás al Señor, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón (…). Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo
Hoy, nos recuerda la Iglesia un resumen de nuestra “actitud de vida” («De estos dos mandamientos penden
toda la Ley y los Profetas»: Mt 22,40). San Mateo y San Marcos lo ponen en labios de Jesucristo; San Lucas de un
fariseo. Siempre en forma de diálogo. Probablemente le harían al Señor varias veces preguntas similares. Jesús responde
con el comienzo del Shemá: oración compuesta por dos citas del Deuteronomio y una de Números, que los judíos
fervientes recitaban al menos dos veces al día: «Oye Israel! El Señor tu Dios (...)». Recitándola se tiene conciencia
de Dios en el quehacer cotidiano, a la vez que recuerda lo más importante de esta vida: Amar a Dios sobre todos los
“diosecillos” y al prójimo como a sí mismo. Después, al acabar la Última Cena, y con el ejemplo del lavatorio de los
pies, Jesús pronuncia un “mandamiento nuevo”: amarse como Él nos ama, con “fuerza divina”.
Hace falta la decisión de practicar de hecho este dulce mandamiento —más que mandamiento, es elevación y
capacidad— en el trato con los demás: hombres y cosas, trabajo y descanso, espíritu y materia, porque todo es criatura
de Dios.
Por otro lado, al ser impregnados del Amor de Dios, que nos toca en todo nuestro ser, quedamos capacitados
para responder “a lo divino” a este Amor. Dios Misericordioso no sólo quita el pecado del mundo (cf. Jn 1,29), sino
que nos diviniza, somos “partícipes” (sólo Jesús es Hijo por Naturaleza) de la naturaleza divina; somos hijos del Padre
en el Hijo por el Espíritu Santo. A san Josemaría le gustaba hablar de “endiosamiento”, palabra que tiene raigambre en
los Padres de la Iglesia. Por ejemplo, escribía san Basilio: «Así como los cuerpos claros y trasparentes, cuando reciben
luz, comienzan a irradiar luz por sí mismos, así relucen los que han sido iluminados por el Espíritu. Ello conlleva el
don de la gracia, alegría interminable, permanencia en Dios... y la meta máxima: el Endiosamiento». ¡Deseémoslo!

Vida
Padre Celestial, la belleza y la dignidad de la vida humana es la coronación de tu creación. Tu ennobleciste aún más la vida cuando tu
Hijo se hizo uno como nosotros en
su encarnación. Ayúdanos a darnos
cuenta de lo sagrado que es la vida
humana y el respeto desde el momento de la concepción hasta el último
momento de la muerte. Danos valor

CATECISMO. La matrícula para las clases de catecismo se han extendido hasta

DESAYUNO CRUZANO. Los miembros del Camino Neocatecumenal, tendrán un desayuno cruzano (Cruzan Breakfast) el sábado 22 de noviembre de
8:00 a 11.00 de la mañana en el estacionamiento de la iglesia. Les pedimos
que nos ayuden en la compra de los boletos que están disponibles después de
la misa y en la rectoría en horas de oficina. El precio es de $10.00. Los fondos
se destinarán a las necesidades de nuestra parroquia. Gracias.
La segunda colecta del próximo domingo 2 de noviembre será para
las necesidades de la Iglesia. Gracias.
“EL UNITED CULTURAL GROUP” invita a la gente de dominica y otros
pue-blos del Caribe a la trigésimo sexta celebración del aniversario de la Independencia de Dominica. Las actividades comenzarán con una Gala Cultural
el 2 de noviembre de 2014 en los terrenos de la Feria de la Agricultura comenzando a las 12:00 p.m. La celebración culminará con una misa “kweyol”
el 9 de noviembre en la Iglesia de San Patricio, en F’sted, a las 10:00 a.m. El
celebrante principal será su Eminencia el Cardenal Kelvin Felix.
DE LA CANCILLERIA. Este año la Sexta Gala Anual del Galardón de las
Llaves y Espada, se llevará a cabo el sábado 31 de enero del 2015 a las 6:00 p.m.
en el Hotel Marriott Frenchman’s Reef, en St. Thomas. Los homenajeados de
este año se darán a conocer en la edición de noviembre del “Catholic Islander”.

restauración de la Catedral de San Pedro y San Pablo.
Los Caballeros de Colón, una organización de la familia católica,
está invitando a los hombres y sus familias, a una jornada de Casa Abierta este
Domingo, 26 de octubre a las 3:00 p.m. en el San Gerard Hall, Frederiksted.
Se dará información importante sobre los beneficios de estos miembros, en
particular sus programas de seguros de vida asequibles para los adultos jóvenes
de 18 a 29 años de edad, así como los programas de otros seguros para cualquier
persona en la familia de un miembro. Se servirán refrigerios.
El St. Croix Lions Club (Club de Leones) se ha unido a la Campaña
Mundial del Club de Leones Internacional para la recolección de espejuelos
usados. Si tienen espejuelos que ya no les sirven, éstos pueden ayudar a otros
más necesitados en áreas rurales e inaccesibles alrededor del mundo. Por favor,
compartan, para que otros puedan ver. Pueden entregárselos al Sr. Pablo Rojas
después de la misa o buscar las cajitas en negocios participantes. Ayuden al
Club de Leones a ayudar.
