ALL SAINTS PARENTS’
NEWSLETTER
Parents Forum
Our new Parents Forum is now up and running. The idea behind it is to create an additional way of
communicating with the school through a forum organised and managed by parents. The intention is to have
termly meetings with an agenda based on questions that parents would like to put forward to the school. A
dedicated email address where parents / carers can post their ideas and suggestions or concerns has therefore
been set up. Letters can also be sent to the Parents Forum via the school offices. Please note however that the
forum is designed to address GENERAL issues only - if you have any pressing or individual concerns / issues
please contact the school directly. Additional information about the forum can be found on the attached
document and on the website.
We are also looking for additional parent/carer facilitators to help organise and run this forum. If you are
interested in getting involved in this, please get in touch using the new email. Please see the attached document
for details.
My Child At School (MCAS)
Following changes to our School computer system, we
are now ready to role out our new online parent portal.
This is called "My Child At School" (MCAS). It will
have live attendance information, timetable and other
details. We will gradually develop our use of other
facilities within MCAS too. Over the following weeks
parents for whom we have an email address will
receive logon details and guidance for using the
system.
May I take this opportunity to thank the parents
(Governors, PTFA members and staff) who have been
our pilot group; they have given useful feedback in
preparing for whole school use. Mrs Strudwick
(Deputy)
Supporting Y11 Revision
Parents of Y11 students often ask how they can help
their child during the last few months of their GCSEs.
There are a few simple ideas here and we will add
more over the next weeks. These and other ideas will
also be available on the School website.
A little and often
Read 10 or 20 definitions of key vocabulary (change
subject often), your child has to write down the word
(with correct spelling of course).
Teach me
Get your child to teach you about a topic - better if it is
something you don't know about. Make sure you
question them about it, so they have to explain it
clearly.
Just a minute
When sitting at the dining table or in the car, choose a
topic and get your child to talk about it for one minute.
U14 Netball News
On Tuesday 20 January the A and B U14 netball team played against Manor. Both teams demonstrated
determination and very good team work. Both teams won convincingly. This is a fantastic achievement as the
team has persevered through difficulties this season. Players of the match are Elysha Clay A team and Helena
Otter B team, both girls demonstrated a high level of skill and controlled the game. Well Done! Mrs Lumley

Parents Forum
All Saints RC School, York
[email protected]
Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome to the newly established All Saints’ Parents Forum. The Forum is open to all those who have a
significant part in the life of a young person in the school, and every parent/carer who has a child at All Saints’
school is automatically a member of the Forum.
The over-riding objective of the Parents Forum is to improve the school experience for all our children. We hope
that the Forum will provide an additional opportunity for communication and consultation about issues, which
are really important to the school and also have an impact on our young people and their families. By giving a
voice to parents, we hope to:

Help maintain strong relationships between All Saints’ school and families;

Improve the way the school engages with parents and carers;

Increase the participation of families in the life of the school;

Help ensure that the needs of young people and their families are recognised;

Enable parents & carers to share their views and opinions on issues relevant to the whole school with
staff and with each other;

Allow the school to gather information on how parents view certain aspects of school’s life;

Help parents / carers understand more about how decisions are made and how the school is run.
By emailing the Parents Forum directly, you will be able to communicate and raise topics for discussion. These
emails will then be read and answered by parent facilitators who have offered to help with the running of the
Forum on a voluntary basis. If the matter is believed to be of common interest or benefit, it will then be put on an
agenda to be discussed at the next Parents Forum meeting. It is envisaged that there would be three meetings
each academic year, to which all are invited. These will be announced in future newsletters and on the website.
Please note however - the Forum will only deal with matters that are of benefit to the entire school community.
Although it will be likely that some of the issues discussed at the meetings will originate from personal
experiences, it is necessary to stress that specific concerns related to single individuals should be dealt directly
with the Form Tutor and/or the Learning Leader.
We hope that by gathering the views of parents and carers and engaging them further in the life of the school
we will improve the experience of all our children and contribute to the enhancement of All Saints’ school’s
vision.
