JANUARY – APRIL 2015 - Fairview Park Recreation Department

RECREATION DEPARTMENT PROGRAM GUIDE
JANUARY – APRIL 2015
www.fairviewparkrec.com
Dear Residents,
It’s been a busy fall at the Gemini Center, beginning with the appointment of
Mr. Joseph W. Brown as the new Recreation Director for the City of Fairview Park.
Joe comes to us from the City of Reynoldsburg, Ohio where he was the Director
of Recreation. He has extensive experience in the operational budget of a recreation
department, park maintenance, and management of public pools, coaching and
team leadership building. Joe is a former OSU and NFL football player, and then
proudly served our Country as a United States Army Ranger.
Next is Winterfest; there are many to thank for their efforts. Sincere thanks go
to Fairview Park Community Council for its very generous donation and to our
event sponsors, North Coast Credit Union and the Fairview Park Chamber of
Commerce; to Dr. Tim Weeks and Whole Body Health for use of their future
offices as the Santa Chalet. I also wish to thank our two Masters of Ceremony:
Todd Meany of Fox 8 and JG Spooner of 92.3 The Fan (WKRK-FM), Slider, Giant
Eagle, Menchies, FP Fine Arts, FHS Scarlet Singers and middle school choir, Chrissy Karliak, Marie Chambers,
Hilary Glanc, Peter Holick, David Klopp, our vendors, Green Team, CERT, F.P. Auxiliary Officers, and our
Winterfest Committee, which includes Danielle Danburg, Sabrina Gorbett, Terri Klopp, Joe Brown, Amanda
Creque, Mary Long, Matt Hrubey and Bridget Hinkel.
Mostly, sincere thanks to our hearty residents who attended Winterfest and filled the streets with cheer and
enthusiasm.
I wish all of our residents a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and wonderful holiday season!
Sincerely,
Mayor Eileen Ann Patton

teaching children safe practices both at school and at home. The
curriculum includes: pedestrian safety, school bus safety, fire safety,
seat belt safety, 911 emergency calls, and stranger danger. The children are instructed and practice how to cross the street safely. This

town designed to provide a complete handson safety education for children entering
kindergarten in the fall. Working traffic signals, miniature buildings, cross walks, and
traffic provided by the children on tricycles
help give the children the experience they
need before they take their final walk on a
real street with real traffic and signals escorted by police officers.
Let's start early to help our children stay safe now and in the
future!

Our Aquatic Therapy Programming is conducted in private 1:1, 45 minute sessions. We provide 1:1 standardized assessments on land and in the pool, a parent or caretaker assessment,
detailed list of goals and a treatment plan based on the comprehensive
evaluation of all assessments, followed by daily documentation of progress.
A wide variety of aquatic equipment and therapeutic techniques are
used to work with the natural dynamics of the water to assist clients with
the motor planning that is involved in increasing muscle and tone development, exercise, safety, rehabilitation, swimming, strengthening, and overall recreation satisfaction.
Sample goals of this program are to increase muscle tone, strength, balance, coordination, range of motion, flexibility, spatial awareness, increase
cardiovascular function, master a variety of swimming skills, safety in and
around water, and decrease anxiety, stress, and fear of water. All goals will
be determined individually and specific treatment plans will be developed.

Member Spotlight
Rachel Aldrich has been a member at Gemini since 2010. She likes to stay fit by taking Circuit
Mania and has been coming to the class since it’s inception in October. Rachel says:
“What I love about Circuit Mania is that it pushes you every minute of every class. The instructor
does a great job of creating workouts that hit every muscle group, without wearing you out, but
definitely making you work hard. The circuit structure is so different from any other class you'll take,
which helps to keep it moving and exciting. There is a great atmosphere to the class, and I feel and
look stronger every week!”

Learn to Zumba and Spin Lessons!
Take advantage of FREE beginner classes!
Zumba Lessons
Come learn the basic dance steps with other beginners. We
take the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and
high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning
dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba® Fitness
classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective? Check. Super fun? Check and check.
Monday, January 12 - 6:30pm
Wednesday, January 21 - 6:30pm
Spinning Lessons
An excellent way to burn some calories and relieve stress! The
workout employs a stationary bike, which has various tensions levels.
The bike will also track your progress, so that you are motivated to
continue and accomplish your fitness goals. Spinning builds muscle
tone, increases cardio endurance and provides low impact exercise all
while listening to rockin’ music!
Saturday, January 3 - 10:30am
