Course Description
Who Should Attend?
This preparatory course is designed for experienced senior level
working professionals in NDT field who wish to attempt ASNT
Level III certification in Magnetic Particle Testing Method. This
is a preparatory course drawn-up in line with ASNT Recommended Practice SNT-TC-1A-2006 Edition and is developed to
impart the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully clear
the examination.
All senior level working professionals in NDT field who wish to
acquire ASNT Level III qualifications in Magnetic Particle Testing Method. All inspection persons involved in plant inspection,
material inspections, welding inspections etc, will find the course
useful.
Magnetic particle testing serves for detecting flaws at the surface
or near the surface of ferromagnetic parts. Course includes the
physical and technical principles of Magnetic Particle Testing,
the procedure, procedure limits, testing problems, safety precautions, flaw inspection, magnetization and de- magnetization
methods etc. The course also covers developing, qualifying and
approving MT procedures; establishing and approving the techniques, interpreting and evaluating the results, and how to train
MT level-I and Level-II persons. The course ends with mock-up
exam on the lines of ASNT certification exam.
Please note that all ASNT Level III Candidates must
successfully complete Basic Examination, regardless of the
method(s) for which the candidate seeks Certification.

Course Objectives

The objective of this Certification course to provide the knowledge and competence to clear the MT Level-III examination.
More specifically the participants will:
n Understand magnetic field theory and electrically induced
magnetism.
n Know the Methodology of magnetic particle testing.
n NDT procedures in magnetic particle testing.
n Selecting the proper method of magnetization.
n How to calibrate equipment and conduct the inspection
according to procedures.
n Detection, Interpretation and evaluation of magnetic particle
indications.
n Devise and write NDT procedures and instructions for the
inspection of component and/or weld configurations for
examination in MT method.
n Document the test results and prepare test reports.
n Preparation, review and approval of MT Inspection Procedures.
n How to conduct training and certification of MT level-I and
Level-II personnel.

Principles/Theory
Principles of magnets and magnetic fields:- Theory of magnetic fields, Theory of magnetism, Terminology associated
with magnetic particle testing, Characteristics of magnetic
fields,Bar magnet, Ring magnet.
Equipment/Materials.
Magnetic particle test equipment:- Equipment selection
considerations, Manual inspection equipment, Medium and
heavy duty equipment, Stationary equipment, Mechanized
inspection equipment.
Inspection materials:- Wet particle technique, Dry particle
technique.
Technique/Calibrations
Magnetization by means of electric current:- Circular field.
Field around a straight conductor, Righthand rule. Field in
parts through which current flows, Methods of inducing current flow in parts, Discontinuities commonly indicated by circular field. Applications of circular magnetization.
Longitudinal field:- Field direction, Discontinuities commonly
indicated by longitudinal techniques, Applications of longitudinal magnetization.
Selecting the proper method of magnetization:- Alloy, shape
and condition of part, Type of magnetizing field, Direction of
magnetic field, Sequence of operation, Value of flux density, Demagnetization, Reasons for requiring demagnetization,
Methods of demagnetization.
Interpretation/Evaluation
Magnetic particle test indications and interpretations, Effects
of discontinuities on materials and types of discontinuities indicated by magnetic particle testing.
Procedures
Magnetic particle procedures, codes, standards and specifications.
Safety and Health
Precautions for ultraviolet radiation.

About the Instructor
n TÜV Middle East Certificate will be issued to all attendees.
n Course Fee mentioned is per delegate.

n Payments to be made in advance. Exact venue of the
