February 2015
Hello AIQ Guild members,
This is the time of year that I actually have a little down time. There is not
much going on in my yard or garden, and it is too cold to mess with anything
outside really, at all. I don't work at the garden center, because there is
nothing happening there either. So, I get to sleep a little later (but not much,
because the dogs get me up) and I get to do a little sewing, and I do try to
get a little spring cleaning done. So, this past week I pulled all the stuff out
of my sewing room except the furniture, and vacuumed the floor and the
baseboards, and started putting everything back where it belongs in an orderly fashion. It is amazing what a mess I can make during the course of a
project. Now I can start a new project and make a whole new mess! Hope
to see everyone at the February meeting!

February Program: Cynthia Janney
Modern Quilting and Modern Cutting Techniques
Modern Quilting is a fast evolving movement within the Quilting
Community. Cynthia Janney, Guild member and Past President, will
present a lecture covering the identification of a modern quilt, its major characteristics, and key authors of modern quilt patterns and
blogs. Also included will be a brief demonstration of cutting techniques beyond a ruler and rotary cutter. Quilters are encouraged to
bring completed quilts that may have modern characteristics for a
“show and tell” following the lecture.
Cynthia Pierron Janney is a member of The Modern Quilt Guild
(MQG). She began quilting in 1999, and has made her home on
Amelia Island since 1997. Her first career was with the Bell System
within its Planning and Engineer department writing strategic plans
and speeches for executives. After obtaining her masters of education, Cynthia taught mathematics in Fernandina Beach and at Florida
State College. She currently has her own business creating custom
quilts.

WE HAVE FUN!
Quilts of
Valor Note:
After being contacted by the new Coordinator for Florida Quilts of
Valor, who described how we might work through them for our quilts,
we have decided to continue shipping our completed quilts for use at
the wounded warrior barracks in Colorado, with whom we have a personal relationship. In the past month, 54 Quilts of Valor were shared
with returning warriors who were at the barracks for treatment! We
need to keep sewing, and sending. Thanks quilters!
